I think this is a better game than Capcom Vs SNK, purely becuase you get to play as Dimitri and do that Midnight Bliss shit on everyone hahaha. Plus it just had a generally more interesting character roster IMO, than Cap Vs SNK 1 AND 2 (#2 I had on PS2, which was still a really good solid fighter though)
I liked this game. It's not Capcom vs. SNK 2 level, obviously, but it had an interesting aesthetic and an appealing oddball sort of roster (Choi? Earthquake? Tessa? For real?). While the single gauge/groove turned some off, I felt it actually made the game enjoyable in simplicity.
The setting they fought in seemed so strangely mysterious, though. Where were they? Just random locations on Earth? What prompted them to seek fights, outside of them provoking each other on encounter?
@cubex55 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! But seriously, all this wonderful work you do. I mean, it's just unfair that you didn't get no monaay at all.
Yep, the most obvious inspiration for that character LOL. Plus K99999999 is a carbon copy of Tetsuo from Akira LOL. Theres a few other "homage" characters, but I cant remember. "D" might be one of them, (or was his name K? the geezer with the leather jacket and trousers)
damn, i never got the chance to play this game. it only came on the xbox in the states but never on the ps2 except in japan it was available on the ps2 and xbox. anyone can tell me if this game was good?
@ecuadragon Actually, it did come out on ps2 in the PAL region on blue-back disc in 2004. I have it... and, well... Its not a great game. I love KOF games, but SNK messed up on this one. Its no where near as good as the Capcom Vs SNK games are - mainly in terms of presentation. If you were to play this after playing CvS2, you would get depressed and fall asleep. This game has a boring ass soundtrack, and whereas CvS have commentators and flashy lights, etc, SvC has practical silence and dullness.
@MrDonkeydong155 you're comparing two different games made on completely different platforms.CvS is made on naomi, much MUCH more powerful than neogeo.is like comparing a ferrari to a kart.io do agree that the music coud've been better, its the worst part of the game
@Zontar82 True, guess I was outta line there comparing them when they were made for entirely different platforms, especially when Neogeo practically came to the end of its lifespan in maybe '98 or '99. SvC is not a bad game by itself, but being released after CvS2, I, and I'm sure alot of other people, expected so much more from this game.
Well I wouldn't go THAT far with the comparison. I've seen a lot of Naomi games, and its just early looking 3D combined with classic 2D as far as I've seen. If you were comparing Atomiswave to Neogeo, or more likely CPS1, then it would be like comparing a Murcelago to a 2-stroke!
@MrDonkeydong155 i see. but i never seen a pal region ps2 version of the game. so the game is not that great. however, the pre-battle commentaries in the game are pretty funny. thanks 4 telling me, dude.
@ecuadragon Ahh, the pre-battle dialogue. Definately one of the better things about the game. Even though it wasn't meant to be funny half of the time, it ended up being HAAAIIIIIlarious.
@MrDonkeydong155 dude, exactly. that's what i love about the game. the dialogue for each character facing every opponent. truly hilarious and entertaining. one of my favorite pre-battle dialogues was with mai vs geese. why? when mai said to geese,"oh no, geese's a ghost." geese owned mai by saying back to her, "bogard's a lady". lmfao. XD
WOW..haven't seen this 1 in a min. Use to play this at the arcades at the mall (when there where arcades) met some cool people playing this game. 10th spot on my fav. fighting games. Had a love/hate relationship with the MAXIMUM level gauge, where you could see people doing infinite Kyo/ Iori qcf + LP until the timer runs out then special. But fun times loved Zero in this and Violent Ken and getting to the REAL last bosses (athena/Red amber) and beating them..Whew.pain.
I remember first playing this game at some Japanese arcade (I think it was in Chiba) and it was kind of intense playing a game like this sitting down but it was enjoyable, but it doesn't hold a candle to its previous versions, especially how the end bosses are so spam-happy in this version...especially Athena!
I'm sorry but this was a step down from Capcom vs SNK, I consider this the weakest of the 3 games in the series, especially after how 2 was. Playmore's translation of the Capcom characters from 6 button to 4 button was a little harsh 2 say the least
@cs31791 The first CvS game used 4 buttons as well though.
How many buttons a fighter uses isn't that important though. Just think of playing Capcom's characters in SvC Chaos as playing them as if they were in a psuedo-KOF game being able to combo into command normals and cancel into specials off them, along with being able to combo into command grabs.

Heh, you can clearly see that SNK put more spriting effort in it's own characters than on Capcom's characters. :P
