  • Oops---I misspelled Wayne's last name--it's Raney.

  • stuffy321

I came across this video while surfing for the song being played.

BUT------strange that you would mention the Wayne Rainey Show---because i knew Wayne and his family when I was a kid. In fact, my father built a radio station for him---probably some 50 yrs. ago (there'bouts). His niece was one of my good friends when I was growing up, also.

  • Nice surf/country! Very nice! This won't die!

  • thanks! i used to listen to wayne on the radio when i was just a kid, all we had was an old radio and we lived in south central tennessee it would only pick if up on a good clear night! really enjoyed that steel guitar rag.

    Bonjour

UN seul mot pour commenter la video et la musique EXELLENT et magnifique pour la

    musique

  • what tuning did you say this was? can't find it in your info or comments. This is awesome!!! thanks for sharing.

  • Thanks for the comment. The man playing rhythm is the brains and brawn behind the outfit.

  • what kind of steel guitar is that?

  • It is a homemade 8 string no pedals

  • @Jaceefus daim, i wonder how u made it..

  • so i dont know much about these and im wondering what can this do that a normal guitar cant?

  • I actually like some the old country music that sounded like this (that I saw on K-Tel Records commercials.) But contemporary does nothing for me.

Put on some Hank Sr. or Conway Twitty and I'll tap my foot and listen. Play that chick from American Idol or that Toby Keith character and I'm excusing myself and leaving.

  • I shure like the Sho-Bud fretboards on that guitar. Great Job!

  • Can't see the name, but those playing cards indicate a Bigsby, and they are very rare.

  • Great job.. my favorite on the steel guitar

  • Sounds like it's a recording from back in the 40s or 50s. Almost has a Hank

Williams feel to it. Nice. I like it!

  • nice stuff

  • Sweet!!

  • 5/5 awesome music.

  • what the this in his hand??

  • a tonebar, its like a slide

  • cool i though it was a magnet or something

  • LUV the playing card neck!!!

    bad azz!!

    nice pickin as well ;)

  • NICE!! i love the steel guitar man. my favorite country music instruments and you did great.

  • that sounds great, wanting to learn myself hope i get as good as you.

  • hi there!

    how is it tuned?

  • Keep on workin' man! You got a talent there that needs to be work on real hard.

    Hats off to you!

  • great stuff. wish i could. gradpa played for bob wills a bit in california

  • in 1 word wow.... sounds great man

  • I have a GFI pedal steel but only have two pedals on it. I just got it out about two weeks ago and boy am I full of rust. The rag is one of my favorites and would appreciate it very much if I could get a copy of your rendition. I can use notes, the old number system for strings and frets and could even use tab. I never played tab but convert everything to a numbered string hand and bar chord position. It seems much easier than trying to learn where every note is on the fret board.

  • Jaceefus:

Excellent playing and I love your rendition of the rag. I played it several times and kept going back. I have heard some professionals play this piece and have literally destroyed the melody because they have tried to hype it up so much.

My father use to play a lap steel and I now have it. It is a Hawaiian Ohau lap steel and I believe that is how you spell it if my memory is correct. The standard tuning used was E7 for the 6 strings.

  • and what song is it exactly bubba?

i need the torrent and stuff

    any who

i dig it like a frigging back hoe at a construction site tearing through trees and mud and fiber optics.

like serious big time dig main man.

  • Great stuff. What tuning were you using?

  • New to lap steel. This is great stuff. What tuning were you using?

    Thanks

  • If you work hard you'll be there. I would like to sing in Nashville someday

  • hpt damn boy! you can sure make them strings cry! Keep it upman! If I ever start a country band Id want a steel picker like you to be a part of it. Keep on practicin!

  • Thank you for the comment. I would like to pick in Nashville one day

  • That was fantastic! Be blessed:)

  • I'm happy you enjoyed it more to come.

  • That's the best steel playing on YouTube!!! Make some more videos!!!

  • Thank you for your comment. Practicing hard, More to come.

  • A'hhhh Haaaaa! You GO boy! Bob Wills would be very proud of you! You've got the tempo just right! Don't speed it up. I play this on the piano. Now,THAT'S a challenge. lol Keep up the fantastic work!--Sandra-S.C

  • so funny!

  • You make it seem so simple. I'd like to try to do something besides work my whole life. Unfortunately I do not think i have talent, but would like to play. I'd always wanted to build my own steel, as it seems like a simple design, but wondered , where did you get yours, and how long have you been playing? Did you take and formal lessons, or just pick it up by ear? Do you have to be able to read music?

    Thanks in advance.

  • I love this tune, fantastic!

  • That was great!

  • Thank you for the comment

  • Yes it is...definitely ;)

  • oh yeah very popular

  • A-W-E-S-O-M-E !!!

  • Slick - do you have some more?

  • Thanks for posting this cid and song. My grandfather played, and this was a staple in his playing. This was a trip down memory lane for me. Thanks so much.

    Great job, and keep playing.

  • Love it! Like the way you change an octive up!!!

  • That's a GREAT JOB! Ignore the idiotic comments about "sissies playing with rythm tracks." The tracks develop your timing and are so much more fun than a metronome. Nice job on the fello who built that guitar. Keep up the good work!

  • hey nice song! by the way what kind of guitar is that and how many strings does it have?

  • is this a lap steel or pedal steel?

  • This is a handmade no pedal 8 string steel guitar. Crafted by Mr Norman Evans, my mentor, it has a 1957 fender pick up only!!!

This is the first of its kind. Made of ash wood and hand machined stainless steel.

  • thats badass lol

  • OUTSTANDING!

  • You ought to try one of those dobro bars that has a flat nose on one end and a curved "bullet" end on the other. I forget who makes them but the idea is that it has finger grooves to make it easier to pick up than a regular round bar.

  • woot thats really good ;)

  • Them old boys again! great version!!

check out Midnight Blues if you do

  • aint it fake?

  • No it is not fake. This is 100% real steel pickin, I have a rhythm track playing in the background. Please feel free to view my latest uploaded video. It shows myself and the gentleman that I record with. Steel guitar rag is only one of the tunes in our "bag of tricks" Thanks for the comment.

  • Ah yes, Leon McCauliffe. At Tulsa many years years ago.

  • Well I don't know if I could categorize myself with Leon, but this is one of my all time favorites. We arranged this version with the modulation from the key of A to E then back to A because nobody has ever tried it that way before. I hope you enjoyed it and thank you for the comment. More videos to come!

  • hey im thinking about playing one and and i have a couple of questions:

    1. Is this instrument hard to play?

    2. What are the peddels for?

    3. whats the difference with that instrument and a regular guitar?

  • like you actuaslly did it yourself. i can tell that's not you. the noting and hand gestures are way of

  • My camera records at 15 frames per second. When I upload my videos, I have noticed the variation between audio and video. This causes the audio to be at a different interval of the song than the video. Thanks for the comment =)>

  • I don't know if I play a steel without any pedals, or knee levers for that matter. Good job, though. I think you got your point across.

  • Great job! I want one of those!

  • Love it. Just wish I could see your right hand...but I hate to complain.

  • beautiful, but can you speed it up like ernest tubbs version

  • very good, enjoyed your version

  • Thank you for all the hard work! These songs are alot of fun. Have happy holiday.

  • what's the thing you're playing on? %)))

  • It's a homemade steel guitar without pedals.
