look at that crowd. looks like so much fun. Unfortunately i was born into a generation who will never get to experience an atmosphere and crowd like this. All I've ever known is £50 tickets, stewards telling you to sit down and players who get paid so much they are as distant from the supporters as the Queen. My dad is always grumbling about the death of football and watching clips like this makes me know exactly what he is talking about. The big corporations have murdered football for the fans.
Yes, Liverpool took this one hard. The tragedy at Hillsborough had happened just one month before; the Reds had won the FA Cup final, 3-2 against Everton, just a week or so before; and they were determined to win the double. Playing at home, it was Liverpool's title - Liverpool's double - to lose. And, by God, they lost it. Oh well, one out of two ain't bad.
Nick Hornby called the chapter in Fever Pitch: The Greatest Moment of all. I'm 12 now and I still get excited by the likes of this. Come on Arsenal!!!!
i being a man.united fan just love the gunners for their habitual victory over liverpool at crucial times........never mind if we beated you (8-2) too harshly this season i love arsenal
@Nestocafe common man...our reserve depleted side vs your strong (£54 mil recently spent) side at old trafford...... i m badly waiting for the return leg!!
@Nestocafe ManU wud have won.........not 3-0..........it wud have been 5-2 or 6-4 or 4-1 or sumthin like that.......we were always capable of scoring......and btw this was a match where had van persie scored the peanalty and equalled i beieve the match wud have turned out 2 be much much different......
@mrsladegreen how much premierleague titles do you have?how much champions league do you have?how much fa cup do you have?.........when you are the same level(19 premierleague titles,3 champions league,11 fa cup)as we are then you can talk
Im not an Arsenal fan but I remember enjoying watching this. When you look at the way George Graham behaved at the end, with dignity and respect, at the biggest moment of his career its a shame that he tarnished himself later at Highbury.
It may be a myth but one story I always heard that at the replayed FA Cup semi between Liverpool and Forest, when Brian Laws scored an own goal that horrible twat Aldridge went over and ruffled his hair. So at the end of this match, Tony Adams did the same to Aldridge and said 'that's for Brian Laws, you cunt'.
@RobinVanPersie119, until you get veterans that fit the system and actually get a defense with a good center and fullback you will never get back to the glory days. As a United fan we got young players but most of them have played 4 plus years like Nani, Anderson, Rooney. Then we got actual young players with experience like Young, Jones and have our academy players like Welbeck and Cleverley. Also, you don't have mental toughness like United. Until that happens you won't win a trophy.
That's what you get when you think you have won before the game is over. Look at John barns shaking John Aldridge's hand & then not going for at least a score draw.
Wenger and the whole team must watch this before every game to see the true meaning of perseverance and determination if they want to win something this year. ARSENAL Till I Die!!!
7.40 - it cost peanuts then for an unforgettable, indescribable terrace experience like this (excluding all the money I spent on going to see 0-0 draws with Bolton Wanderers). I thought nothing could top the end of the 79 FA Cup Final. I was well wrong.
was at this game, on the kop. huge respect for arsenal for comin to anfield and doin that..... there will never be an ending to a season like that again.
Unfortunately the current Arsenal side in this same situation would go 2-0 up in the 92nd minute and it would still finish 2-1. Probably 2-3, in fact.
@RichieMann don't give a fuck where he was born and raised, he LOOKS like a typical scouser, his garage is full of hubcaps, Go you GUNNERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I watched it live, still gives me goose bumps. Sorry spuds, don't guess you'll ever know how it feels... unless you're old. 50 year anniversary this year, congratulations losers!
Greatest match in the history of world football without a doubt! It seems like Anfield is the place to be when it comes to title deciders. 0-2 Arsenal, 0-2 Chelsea
such sensible comment from the bung king, George Graham: we have been written off by the newspapers, there is no pressure on us. we will try to keep a clean sheet and see what happens. prophetic stuff.
best game ive ever seen as an arsenal supporter...so dramatic.....and liverpool fans were very sporting after the match. George graham was a brilliant manager.....he supposed to have stuck newspaper articles that read arsenal have no chance...he didnt need much of a team talk after that!.
Can you imagine Wenger playing five at the back for a game like this? No chance. Georgie knew his onions. Keep it tight at the back, nick two goals. Glorious.
Maybe King Kenny regrets not playing Beardsley from the start cos there was always a chance he could nick i'd have had him from the start and gone 4-5-1 to pack the midfield with beardsley playing just in front of the 4 in midfield and that's where thomas's(The bastard) goal WAS made from midfield there wouldn't of been any out and out wingers the full backs would push up to get the crosses in and there would be 4 cen midfields across the park if we played like that we'd be celebrating a chaship
WHY DO PLAYERS WHO DO NOT PLAY IN CUP FINALS DON'T GET A MEDAL A PLAYER COULD OF PLAYED IN EVERY ROUND AND SCORED GOALS TO GET HIS TEAM TO THE FINAL BUT THEN HE'S INJURED FOR THE FINAL HE WOULDN'T GET A MEDAL BUT IF A PLAYER DOESN'T PLAY IN THE FINAL LEAGUE MATCH HE'LL STILL GET A CHAMPIONSHIP MEDAL IF THEY WIN LEAGUE PROVIDED HE'S PLAYED ENOUGH GAMES SO THE SAME SHOULD GO FOR CUP FINALS I KNOW A LOT OF PLAYERS WOULDN'T WANT ONE IF THEY DIDN'T PLAY IN THE FINAL BUT I WOULD IF I PLAYED A PT EARLY
WHY OH WHY DID BARNES NOT TAKE THAT BALL INTO THE CORNER AND JUST HOLD IT THERE INSTEAD OF RUNNING TOWARDS GOAL AND LOSING IT WHICH SET UP THERE GOAL WHEN HE HAD IT DEEP IN INJURY TIME JUST BEFORE THERE GOAL HE WOULD OF RUN THE CLOCK DOWN IF HE'D JUST GONE TO THE CORNER PUT HIS FOOT ON THE BALL AND SHEILED IT SO THEY COULDN'T GET IT THE WHISTLE WOULD OF GONE WE'D BE CHAMPS BARNES SHOULD BE CREDITED WITH AN ASSIST FOR THAT LAST MINUTE GOAL
as a man united fan and sort of neutral, perhaps this was the biggest result in english LEAGUE football ? there hasn't been a game thats been this important has there?
@tommyaw123 jealous, jealous of what? your clubs run by manks 99% of your fans are foreign & glory supporters, you've never won the league at any of your rivals grounds and youve never gone 49 games unbeaten, anyone can win cups through luck etc but it takes a real team to go a whole season and more without losing. been to more games this season than you will ever watch in your armchair you mong! jog on
@AFCFinch oh yea the invincibles? that would be the Arsenal team who got beat by Man United in the FA Cup Semi Final, Inter Milan 3 nil at home (CL), Dynamo Kiev 2 - 1 away (CL), Chelsea 3-2 (CL Semi), Middlesborough at home 1-0 League Cup first leg, and 2-1 away
So just to recap for the 2003 - 2004 season the INVINCIBLE Arsenal team lost 6 games.
99% of our fans are foreign? haha a lovely little myth made up by City fans that,
Born and bred manc and season ticket holder. Your season is OVER
@tommyaw123 the invincibles was only recorded through the league season, yeah you can have you trebles and all that shite, but at the end of the day weve got more chance of winning the treble than you going 49 games unbeaten :) as for the foreign comment, MUFC mumbai turned up in numbers at the fa cup match, dont think i heard an english person, never mind a manc.
@AFCFinch oh deary me I think that just about completes my argument when you say "trebles and all that shite" what a sad prick you are, what's better, The Premier League trophy, the European Cup and the FA Cup or a "special commemorative trophy from the FA congratulating arsenal in going through the league unbeaten. hmmm doesn't take a bitter Arsenal fan much to work that one out
what was it the spurs fans were singing when they knocked AC out the CL ? "Are you watching Arsenal?!" hahahahahahah
@tommyaw123 Id rather have something no one else will ever have a sniff at,not even man united. tbh spurs had an easier draw, we fucked it up in the group stages so we only have ourselves to blame, think barcelona is a much bigger team than ac milan to be quite honest, and we beat the same more or less milan team 2-0 away from home. It aint all about trophies, id much rather support a team where you have just as many ups as you do downs, because it really shows how good our fans are.
@tommyaw123 united had no chance, no where near as good as that 03/04 arsenal team, fact!
unbeaten season has only been done twice and once when a season was only 22 games long, we did 49.
treble has been done many times, barcelona did the sextuple few seasons ago, did they go unbeaten a whole season? no, so i think an unbeaten season and more, is a lot more rare than a treble, thank you good night
@tommyaw123 lol you've clearly lost the battle when you start going off the subject, since when we're we only talking about in england? fact of the matter is barcelona and the likes with all these great teams they've had have NEVER gone unbeaten a whole season, yet they've done the treble and bettered it, even with the current barcelona team with messi xavi etc etc, they haven't gone unbeaten, so yes, an unbeaten season is more rare.
@tommyaw123 So infact you evidently don't know a hell of a lot more than me if you think a treble is rarer you wrong'un. Just to recap on this, preston went 22 games unbeaten, which was a full season in those days which can i add was 112 years ago, arsenal went 49 games unbeaten, which in terms of when preston did it, 2 seasons and 5 games. Even you lot went more games unbeaten than preston.
@AFCFinch oh deary me, I would take the European Cup or the premier league title on its own above an unbeaten league season.
Fact of the matter is from the start of the FOOTBALL season to the end, Arsenal LOST 6 games, that must really hurt you deep down.
Really can't wait for Spurs to spank you at whitehart lane and end your last chance of a trophy this season, meanwhile United are still fighting for all 3. That must make you feel sick
@tommyaw123 well we actually won the league during the unbeaten season if you forgot that.
yeh we lost 6 games outside the league, but still no one has gone 49 league games unbeaten. nothing makes me feel sick, im proud of who i support, im proud to say ive been to 34 games this season, following them in europe win or lose, couldnt give a flying fuck about united or anyone else. we were the most successful club in england, but like all things it comes to end, same will happen to you yanks

best game ive ever seen as an arsenal supporter...so dramatic.....and liverpool fans were very sporting after the match.

@AFCFinch haha dont be jealous you cockney prick
18 league titles, 11 FA Cups, 3 European Cups, what you got ? hahahahaha
tommyaw123 10 months ago

Your season is OVER
tommyaw123 10 months ago
@tommyaw123 the invincibles was only recorded through the league season, yeah you can have you trebles and all that shite, but at the end of the day weve got more chance of winning the treble than you going 49 games unbeaten :) as for the foreign comment, MUFC mumbai turned up in numbers at the fa cup match, dont think i heard an english person, never mind a manc.
AFCFinch 10 months ago
@AFCFinch oh deary me I think that just about completes my argument when you say "trebles and all that shite" what a sad prick you are, what's better, The Premier League trophy, the European Cup and the FA Cup or a "special commemorative trophy from the FA congratulating arsenal in going through the league unbeaten. hmmm doesn't take a bitter Arsenal fan much to work that one out
what was it the spurs fans were singing when they knocked AC out the CL ? "Are you watching Arsenal?!" hahahahahahah
tommyaw123 10 months ago
@tommyaw123 Id rather have something no one else will ever have a sniff at,not even man united. tbh spurs had an easier draw, we fucked it up in the group stages so we only have ourselves to blame, think barcelona is a much bigger team than ac milan to be quite honest, and we beat the same more or less milan team 2-0 away from home. It aint all about trophies, id much rather support a team where you have just as many ups as you do downs, because it really shows how good our fans are.
AFCFinch 10 months ago
@AFCFinch never had a sniff at?! United had a sniff this season
which is rarer? the Treble or unbeaten season? Answer - the treble
(Real) Treble winners - Man United
Unbeaten in the league - Arsenal and Preston
its like arguin with a city fan this, keep shootin you down
tommyaw123 10 months ago
@tommyaw123 united had no chance, no where near as good as that 03/04 arsenal team, fact!
unbeaten season has only been done twice and once when a season was only 22 games long, we did 49.
treble has been done many times, barcelona did the sextuple few seasons ago, did they go unbeaten a whole season? no, so i think an unbeaten season and more, is a lot more rare than a treble, thank you good night
AFCFinch 10 months ago
@AFCFinch oh dear you've clearly lost the battle when you start talking about European leagues, whats your next comback?
Clueless, get yourself educated son when you start a debate with someone who evidently knows a hell of a lot more than you do
tommyaw123 10 months ago
@tommyaw123 lol you've clearly lost the battle when you start going off the subject, since when we're we only talking about in england? fact of the matter is barcelona and the likes with all these great teams they've had have NEVER gone unbeaten a whole season, yet they've done the treble and bettered it, even with the current barcelona team with messi xavi etc etc, they haven't gone unbeaten, so yes, an unbeaten season is more rare.
AFCFinch 10 months ago
@tommyaw123 So infact you evidently don't know a hell of a lot more than me if you think a treble is rarer you wrong'un. Just to recap on this, preston went 22 games unbeaten, which was a full season in those days which can i add was 112 years ago, arsenal went 49 games unbeaten, which in terms of when preston did it, 2 seasons and 5 games. Even you lot went more games unbeaten than preston.
AFCFinch 10 months ago
@AFCFinch oh deary me, I would take the European Cup or the premier league title on its own above an unbeaten league season.
Fact of the matter is from the start of the FOOTBALL season to the end, Arsenal LOST 6 games, that must really hurt you deep down.
Really can't wait for Spurs to spank you at whitehart lane and end your last chance of a trophy this season, meanwhile United are still fighting for all 3. That must make you feel sick
tommyaw123 10 months ago
@tommyaw123 well we actually won the league during the unbeaten season if you forgot that.
yeh we lost 6 games outside the league, but still no one has gone 49 league games unbeaten. nothing makes me feel sick, im proud of who i support, im proud to say ive been to 34 games this season, following them in europe win or lose, couldnt give a flying fuck about united or anyone else. we were the most successful club in england, but like all things it comes to end, same will happen to you yanks
