  • Amazing song. I have to hand it to family guy though, for re writing this masterpeice into a song about weed

  • Dick Van Dyke is soooooo talented!

  • R.I.P Robert B. Sherman(December 19, 1925 – March 5, 2012)

  • One of the greatest musical numbers ever!!

  • RIP Robert B Sherman

  • bag of weed brought me here

  • I listen to this and all I hear is "A Bag Of Weed" from Family Guy. Tragic really.

  • Can't believe he learned this entire piece in one day....

  • @dragonson04 He did?! That's the most awesome thing ever also the fact that he never took any dancing lessons...

  • I <3 Dick Van Dyke!

  • 2:46!

  • Artist: Winnie the Poo?!?!?!

  • @charliesmakinme

It comes up auto by youtube, so I had no say on the artist lol

  • One of my favorite songs from the show!

  • @Scatman1701

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a 1968 musical film.

    Family Guy, Original run January 31, 1999 – February 14, 2002;

    May 1, 2005 – present.

    Idiot!

  • 31 people didn't have a childhood.

  • @goofy456123

31 members of the bag of weed appreciation society! lol

  • @jasonglidden1966 I WAS WAITING FOR A BAG OF WEED REFERENCE HAHA

  • this is awesome way better than dancing with the stars just think how long this took to make

    nothing like the classics

  • This entire film is nothing but awesome.

  • i bloody love a bit of bamboo

  • never need a reason, never need a rhyme to step in time......

  • Dick Van Dyke was once referred to as a national treasure. How true that is!

  • This was my favorite song of the entire movie!

  • I grew up with this, and it's amazing that i still know all the lyrics! /=)

  • This guy is brilliant and I feel a bit under rated. He is a treasure.

  • I love how he got into it by accident but by the end he leads the whole thing!

  • Lucky that it was Dick's hat that fell off at the end or they would probably have asked them all to do it again. haha

  • I read somewhere that DVD was 44 when he made this film. the other dancers in this scene were half his age at least! wot a legend!

  • Dick Van Dyke is AMAZING... To have the ability to remain 4 beats behind the rest of the dancers for the first half of the scene is truly Breathtaking.... LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • There is simply nothing else that bears comparison in all film musicals! Chitty stands alone! Score, lyrics, costumes, dance routines, story - all absolutely brilliant! No other musical of the genre is so much fun, nor so amusing for ALL ages! Every song is memorable, ... and Dick van Dyke in this role is truly, as they say, 'a legend'!

  • D V-D was 43 when this was made, I salute him.

  • It took Dick Van Dyke one day to learn this routine.

  • It's been so long since I've seen this movie, I don't even remember this part. Not in the slightest.

  • I'm 23 now, and this was one of my all time favorite movies growing up. I always enjoyed the older stuff. Still love this movie, it never gets old (in my opinion). :)

  • @jjeekkkkaa19 I feel the same way & I'm nearly 26.

I just find it's one of those films you find hard to put down.

  • @Andi090386

Exactly! I remember when I was little, I'd get our broom and try to do this dance. I thought it was the coolest thing. Ha! Let's just say it never turned out well. :-P

I also loved the doll scene with 'Truly Scrumptious' on the music box. I was always singing that song in school and none of the other kids ever knew what I was talking about.

Ah, the good old days ;)

    --Jessica

  • @jjeekkkkaa19 Oh those were the days....

I find it hard not to watch this video.... it's almost hypnotic...

  • I saw Chitty Chitty Bang Bang before I saw Family Guy, and I still thought the writers had to be on a bag of weed to write this number...

    I still like this.

  • Ah this brings back the memories. 2.21 is my fav part :D

  • All we need is a bag of weed C: But this version is much better

  • 2:30 guy in the middle looks a little TOO happy

  • Oh my God! I just found out that this was released in the '60s! *face palm* This came out when my dad was 6!

  • One of my favourite musicals of ALL TIME!

  • Dick Van Dyke is my all time favorite actor

  • One of the reasons I like this musical period is that the screenplay was written by the author Roald Dahl, the same guy the wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

  • @SamirEscoto Yes Samir, Roald Dahl & Ken Hughes wrote the screenplay from the book written by James Bond Author Ian Fleming!

Also Directed by Ken Hughes and produced by Albert R. Broccoli who was co-producer of the James Bond series of films, also based on Ian Fleming's novels :-).

  • @SamirEscoto hmm i havn't seen this in awhile, hmm what other movies are good to watch from that period (i am 18 now, i only remember chitty chitty bang bang, merry poppins and charlie and the chocolate factory)

  • You know what I love about dick van dyke? Hes a fantastic dancer, but doesent over do it in a gay way like most musical dancers (im not saying that as an insult to other dancers, its just the act much more feminen onstage) Van Dyke is able to, some how, be graceful, yet retain his manlieness. look at the faces of the backround dancers in this vs him and tell me he is not the coolest, most in control dude on set?

  • They don't make musicals like they use to.

  • One of my all-time favorite movie musical numbers, and Dick Van Dyke's best ever. I always wondered, what happened to the bad-haircut guy who was out to get him? He just kinda disappeared...LOL

  • The performers in this ought to get more credit than they do. There are some very long shots in this which could have been ruined by even one person making a small mistake. 1:38 and 2:23, for example.

  • @BlueThunderFlik Agreed. They were amazing back in the day! They could sing, dance, act and all of it in very long shots! I'd like to see most 'actors' and 'actresses' do that nowadays! Back then they were so talented.

  • now someone make a dubstep of this =D wubwubwubwub!

  • referring to family guy? I knew this song and movie before I watched family guy and when I saw this episode, I thought it was hilarious.

  • @Kiya4ever Same here.

  • I've always wanted to learn how to do what dick van dyke does @ 2:20

  • @CSXfoamer97 me too! he so good at dancing.

  • @CSXfoamer97 ME TOO!

  • am i the only one who thought about "step in time" from mary poppins as this played?

  • Its Supprising How Many Funny Looks you Get When You start Doing This Dance On Town Street. So Many People Were Suprised When They Found Out I Was Only 14

  • @TheCoolchris99 Waitin on that upload. : |

  • lol, watching this with my friend last night, first time in years, he said they were saying the "old man blue", i was like nooooooooo, its the old bamboo but i hadnt seen it in so long so i had to come on here to check....phew, what a relief, i was right after all

  • @NewsomeFtball09 its true gabor borz

  • @gabor0313 lol

  • i wish i colud sing the song gabor borz

  • @k3vm4 As everyone has told you your so out of touch on this one K3vm4, this was the original made in the late 1960's, Family Guy was started over 30+ years later!!

  • And this doesn't have a million views because...

  • @inufan330 ......people have no taste in good musicals.......people don't have taste period....Americans are declining in intelligence.....etc.

  • @dragonson04 Statistically-speaking, that gripe about declining intelligence is actually BS. IQs are actually rising. They frequently change the IQ tests so that the average person measures at 100 points. If today you scored 100 on a test from back then then you would be considered slow. I do agree with you regarding musical tastes.

  • @dragonson04 Im American and i agree with you

  • everything is better with a bag of weed!

  • I like this film!

  • OK now...who disliked my childhood?

  • @WhiteDove4546 Baron Bomburst

  • @WhiteDove4546 The guy who got his head shaved!!! He made 31 accounts while he waited for his hair to grow back!

  • @TheCoolchris99 Didn't live up to his end of the bargain. I vote we all give him the thumbs down. I, however, am a musical theatre major. If I find a spare moment (over Christmas if nothing else) I WILL record myself singing and dancing this IN COSTUME (if at all possible) and post it on Youtube. I'll probably fail epically, but what the heck. These guys sure didn't look they'd care about failing, so why should I?

  • @AWorldWithoutTenors well i thought i would get a camra before everyone starts thumbing up the comment

  • @TheCoolchris99 Um, hello, you already have a ridiculous amount of likes! Maybe you shouldn't make promises you can't keep? Until you actually post something, I'm thumbing you down.

  • @TheCoolchris99 im not seeing anything..

  • Brilliant!! Love this! Off to watch "Steppin Time"!! LOOL!

  • theres a book of this movie lol

  • 2.21 still confuses the fuck out of me!

  • @ChrisMarshall94 there playing follow the leader lol

  • @ChrisMarshall94 Hes Dick van Dyke, you can tell him to do do that today at 80, and he'll do it

  • 2:22

    Every day I'm shufflin'

  • mah fav song out of the film

and btw 29 ppl dont have ole bamboo

  • back in the day when actors and actresses where actually talented and did their own stunts and dance routines...

  • IF this comment gets more then 50 likes ill dance to this song in the same way with a bamboo and ill post it on youtube

  • @TheCoolchris99 um it's gotten more than 50 likes

  • @bookworm2311 no its not it still at 0

  • I prefer this version more than Family Guy I'm 11 but I love classics :')

  • @CPHsmace A kid who likes classics! Brilliant!! Keep to the classics mate! XD

  • @semplew Classics are what I listen to mostly in the car so I love them :)

  • i heard dick van dyke was drunk when he recorded this....true legend!

  • @Buttee1 I hate to upset your story but Dick was not drunk when we did this number so this is not a true legend

  • @Buttee1 I hate to upset your story but Dick was not drunk when we did this number so this is not a true legend. He was on heavy pain killers as he hurt his back when we did the toot sweet number but he was not drunk.

  • @Exdancer1 it may upset my story but it just increases the level of respect I have for that man...still a true legend!

  • @Exdancer1 Dick of course is a legend but the story of him being drunk is not a legend

  • Seth MacFarlane is a harbor of the age of class to this age's youth, Never again will there be a (insert actor here), but Seth MacFarlane immortalized him/her.

  • Only the strongest will survive, Lead me in heaven when we die, I have a shodow on the wall, I'll be the one to save us all.

  • It's sad that the only way people will even get the samallest taste of this kind of music is having to see it bastardized in a filthy cartoon. It just shows how far we've fallen as a society.

  • @mankind2112, it seems like whatever I look up any classic clip on Youtube the comments are *always* like, "LOL, I seen this on Family guy!!!11"

It makes me really wonder why Family Guy even exists or why it's popular. It seems like it's only function is to make references to other works of entertainment, stuff that's better than it could ever possibly dream of being. But the audience eats up the references. It's like the cartoon version of those "Scary Movie" movies.

  • @mankind2112 first of mankind i never knew this song even existed.... When i seen it on family guy i was laughin... I didnt even know anything bout this song until this time right now when i cant fall asleep n i was flippin through HBO n came across this song then i thought of Bag of Weed... I dont think FAMILYGUY didnt do anything WRONG with this song... Seth did it for fun n its a catchy lil beat... So plz dont have a cow bout it...

  • @mankind2112 it truly is a pitty. this movie is a classic and none of my friends even know that family guy is copying this song.

  • @mankind2112 I wouldnt realy call it bastardized, thats a bit harsh. I love this song and I actualy appretiate the Family Guy version.

  • THIS NEEDZ TO BE A FLASH MOB =D

  • Everything better with a bag weed :D

  • its not really hard to dance like that, all u have to do is watch, memerize and practice

  • real men dance like that.

  • Enough with this shit about family guy! they made a parody, that's nice to know, still nothing compared to this song.

  • I love this so much

  • Bag of wee d.

  • Bag of weed.

  • This is by far probably one of the hardest dance numbers to do. Especially if you're going to use the choregraphy from the movie. Tough as hell!

  • Holy cow that was a great video! Subscribing now!

  • This was my dad's favorite movie! (together with "The Guns of Navarone")

  • I love everything about this song.

    Except that I can't hear a word they're saying!

  • Wow, that was great. :)

  • bag o weed, bag o weed everythings better with a bag o weed

  • whatever happened to movies like this? =(

  • @rainwalker93 Production companies don't like great talent and excellent storylines very much these days. Both cost more than they're willing to spend.

  • I cannot imagine how they even began to choreograph this scene.

    It must have taken weeks.

  • everyday i'm shuflin'

  • Thumbs up if you miss classic awesome movies like this.

  • @animefrak1 NOT Awesome... EPIC :D

  • BIG BROTHER UK 10 did this dance as a task!! it was proper entertaining

  • aawww childhood memerories love it

  • The guy who gives him the money from his hat looks a lot like Michael Palin. Or is that just me?

  • I loved this WAY before family guy...it took me a while to recall where family guy parodied this from but then a quick google search confirmed my suspicion...good stuff!

  • I once read an interview with Dick Van Dyke and he said that this was the most difficult dance number he ever attempted. At the time this scene was filmed, Van Dyke was 44 years old and the other dancers were between 20 and 22 and he had to keep up with them. You'll note that at one point in the dance, Van Dyke runs off the stage and allows the younger men to dance. In one far shot, you can see Van Dyke cheering on the dancers from the side. He then returns for that unforgettable last riff.

  • I would fucking pay to see this. This is the best thing I've ever watched in my life.

  • I used to watch this movie all the time as a kid

... until my vcr ate the tape D:

  • The guy who gave Dick the coins and says "Here! Thank you very much! Thank you!" looks like my uncle

  • i love how in the movie he learns the dance perfectly in like 20 seconds xD

my favorite scene is this one and the doll on a music box. i love this movie and im just a teen, so i guess you don't have to be an old fart to have seen this :D

  • my GOD can he dance.

  • My god he's great.

  • Dear god they're better than female cheerleaders O_O

  • 2:22 who needs shuffling when you can do that?

  • I actually saw some Broadway reenactors at a fair in Charlotte NC about 14 years ago doing this routine..... FOR THOSE WHO DON'T REALIZE..... IT'S HARDER THAN IT LOOKS! But seening someone who knows what the hell they are doing, bamboo twirl, get all the song words right, feet in sync, and the harmony on point while dancing HAS MY RESPECT ANYDAY, HATS OFF TO U BOYS!

  • what part was this?

  • A Bag of Weed, A Bag of Weed... wait?

  • HA wouldn't it be awesome if the guys from step in time were in this too. :D

  • I would very much like to meet Dick Van Dyke. I think I might like him to teach me.

  • All i can hear is the fan guy version with a bag 'o weed :P

  • Best song in a very very long movie!

  • @niceguytim i know ibetrollinbro

  • Are the lyrics "But what we do with an old bamboo makes everybody queer" or am I mishearing things?

  • @bsara um im pretty sure this is a parody of family guy

  • @kman1212100

1.family guy doesn't do anything original

    2. this is obviously an older video

don't make a fool of yourself

  • @kman1212100 This movie was made in the 60's, so me thinks you have it backwords.

  • I wonder what this song would be like of Dick Van Dyke never walked into the tent, and didn't do the song.

  • @jacksonkidd i think it would suck!! This guy cracks me up in it!!

  • Tons of fun.

  • Did Macfarlane ever write a song that was not a rip off of an already existing song? talentless bastard.

  • @Leatherbubba It's hardly a rip off. Also he doesn't write songs, Walter Murphy writes original music for Family Guy. The fact is that there are some brilliant songs in old fashioned musicals like this.. taking this song and making it about legalising Marijuana is just funny. And it's a frickin awesome song. Again you're wrong to say he's just ripping off music. This is a really famous film to boot.

  • @Leatherbubba um McFarlen DID NOT WRITE THIS SONG!!!! he produced it but believe it or not it was actually Dick Van Dyke and the screenwriter who wrote the song. McFarlen produced it and did the choreography to the song. Now, the songs "Toot Sweets" and "Chitty, Chitty, Bang Bang" THOSE HE DID WRITE, but not "Me Ole Bamboo". Don't mean any disrespect or anything like that u r just a little misinformed, but it happens no biggy :):):):):):):):):):):)

  • @Leatherbubba He told in an interview he got inspired by early musicals/movies.. And if you thinks he's talentless, try to make 3 succesful tv-shows yourself..

  • @Leatherbubba well man, you may not like it but there are a lot of people who enjoy both songs. oh and do you have any idea how hard it is to write a song. and then its harder to write lyrics to a song that is already made and you just substitute the lyrics, id say thats harder. its also clever and he has a lot of talent.

  • The great thing about this movie is that the musical numbers mostly don't detract from the story, they serve it. Like this scene could have been some non sequitur which never gets mentioned or never contributes to the film but in fact because of the dance, he gets the money to buy the car and so the musical number is justified.

  • i knew the lyrics to this off by heart when i was like 6 and now when i'm 13 i'm like "how the fuck did i do that?"

  • there were times when i wondered why was there always a lone american in a lot of these films that were supposed to be british

but i dont mind DVD is awesome

  • @AtoZ0to9123456 Actually this movie was made a few years after Mary Poppins, with a quite similarly themed storyline. In fact the same song-writing duo wrote the music for both, and you can hear a lot of similarties (Step-in Time and Ole Bamboo in fact). In Poppins van Dyke attempted a cockney-esque accent that was laughably off base (to this day he still jokes about it). So (I assume) for CCBB they just bagged all pretense and let DvD be his natural self.

  • Thumbs up if you knew and love this song before Family Guy

(p.s. i also loved the Family Guy version too, it was funny)

  • @themangakawolf I grew up listening to this song (basically watching the movie a lot) and Family guy got me thinking, "Oh... what was the original! I know this one..." then looked it up and remembered! lol people just don't dance like this anymore- it's pretty sick!

  • @Nitrocide595 i too grew up with this movie and Family Guy, but i knew right off the bad and lmao XD

  • @Nitrocide595 but they don't make movies with epic dancing anymore

  • @themangakawolf also sad but true...I'd say "someone's gotta bring it back" but I'm pretty sure in this day and age of Michael Bay explosions and drama, nobody wants to see people dance anymore B/

  • @Nitrocide595 well we still have this movie :)

  • @themangakawolf that we do.... that we do... :)
