I base my judgment on the 2007 McLaren season, and Alonso, a 2 times world champion got his ass seroiusly shaken and beaten(Hamilton finished ahead of him) and he was a ROOKIE..Now, Hamilton is not the best (to me,Kubika is way better), but unless he shoes a bad car(like Senna in 1993) and is capable of winning a race on pure merit(Not like Alonso in 2008, 2 lucky wins), only then we will be able to call him an oustanding driver.

i ain't biased, i will admitt hamilton had punctures in turkey and europe (after the incident in qualifying) he also crashed in china because of his tyres and then the gearbox in brazil. alonso got it bad in canada when he damaged his car after a tangle with heidfeld, he also blew his gearbox in france during qualifying, was stupidly penalised in hungary (to the advantage of hamilton) and aquaplaned in the wall in japan, apparently he had a misfire in bahrain but i will have to check that out...
