Very Nice work. How one can keep up that pace for so long, with getting fatigued, erratic, or miss on note or two, still puzzles me, and is truly awesome. Especially this song, it's not the easiest around. BUT! what alternate tuning is it? It seems sort of add9, or sus4 to it, but I can't really see/hear it, other than that is sort of F sharpish...:-)
As I said in your blues video, I'm a musician myself. Although I enjoy all your work, I especially love this peice.. everything including the birds is just beautiful. Great job!
I've seen this a long time ago and everytime i am just impressed. I think it's one of the songs which are very hard to learn. amazing job mate. really . i love this song and it's perfect!
Very nice...I know how much concentration and practice that takes!....especially with birds chirping, trying to steal the show...great technique, touch.
Absolutely wonderful cover of this deGrassi composition. I've listened to this piece countless times from the 1982 recording on the Windham Live album and always wanted to see the actual fingering technique.
Pierre....I have heard the Live version many times (I bought the CD in 1984 while at college) and still have it today. Your rendition is spot-on and it is really fantastic. I would love to play this but it would probably take 6 months to learn (just part of it). Keep up the good work.....
wow!!! this is beautiful!!! I used to try learn this song many times but finally I gave up, it is still good to watching you play! thanks for sharing!
I'm a friend of Pierre, i filmed him when he played this song, if you want to see this video with a better quality in 16:9 go to: Pierre Fortin-Turning:Turning back
This is just awesome! Beautiful playing. What kind of guitar is that? The pickguard looks sort of like a Yamaha guitar of some sort. Sounds great-which model is it? Thanks!
It is my guitar play at my home. It is a Yamaha's guitar Model LW-15C.I like my Yamaha. IF you want to see the other tune recorded with this guitar, check my channel or write R.Maheux
BRAVO! I met Alex De Grassi in Canada at a Don Ross workshop, he did not play this song (however we did not ask him to) but he is a great guy, I love this song and wanted to see it played right. You just made me smile, if i could play it I would, but thank you for doing such a great job with it. I have his instructional video but this one is not on it... but I will try to find it. WOW again Bravo!
Thank you very much JimmyGove! I did not know Phil Keaggy. I viewed some video on Youtube and I really liked. Thank you to have make known me this new guitarist.
PS--I absolutely LOVE how the birds singing along with you-- and how the background party noise ADD to this piece and give it ambient dimension. I don't know if you intended that, but it's really good--excellent!!!
No it was not voluntary birds. But I really liked when I viewed this video for the first time. I always have the same pleasure to hear this magnificent singing of background birds every time I look at my video.
Hi Pierre, alden marin here, listening again to this majestic interpretation! I want to wish you Happy Holidays and say how much this perfect, lovely, elegant music of yours--and your exacting, heartfelt renditions of DeGrassi's work have meant to me this year. I play and listen to music all day, all the time, and your work is simply amazing, incredible and utterly splendid! Keep up the good work in 09!! Your friend and fan, alden marin :~^)
Pierre--what's your address? How do i send you this abstract painting I did for you? I made it while listening to your beautiful music and interpretations!!! You must have it!!! Alden
Hi Pierre--I was just listening again to this amazing rendition of the great classic TURNING, TURNING BACK...magnificent, encore! I wondered, did you get my painting I sent you? Alden Marin
Alex De Grassi record this song on live about 1983 with perfect execution, without doing mistakes (maybe 1 string bad tapped). At the end of the song you can hear the applause of the lucky people was in the concert.
At that moment you can't avoid getting moved.
Since first time heard it, I always dreamed seen an Alex DeGrassi video playing this song or a brave boy doing it.
I am especially proud very to have dedicated a lot of time and credit succeed in taking up this piece to the ear while in this epoch Alex has not published the tab of this piece yet.
I'm happy telling you that two year ago, I bought at the United States a book called "Best of Alex de Grassi" (from Hal Leonard Corporation)and included complete tabs of Turning Turning-back.
The book included too the songs: Blood an Jasmine,Blue Trout,Bright Sky,Cumulus,Deep at Night,Klamath,Short Order,Sleeping Lady.
If you are interested on this book, you can contact with me...
It is true that this piece is difficult. I find especially difficult to play a piece so long without being made of error. The song of birds draws the attention and conceals a little my errors;o)
Thank you very much Steve and in the pleasure to listen to mutually:o)
It's been a while since your last video! You play so relaxed, I'm jealous. I always have such a heavy touch in my playing. Gorgeous. Hope to see more from you before too long.
