Awesome reef Jigging!! Great Barrier Reef!!

Hey, I'm trying to get into fishing as a sport and I was just wondering, as a beginner, how do I know which fish are poisonous? And is there anything I should worry about, as in, if I went fishing alone, do you think I would be okay?

In australia, the Grant's Guide to fishes is an awesome book, and well worth a read and will highligh poisonous fish. there are a few on the Great Barrier reef you do have to look out for. Or go fishing with a more experienced mate or fishing club with local knowledge and they should be able to help point you in the right direction,

Our Spanish are similar to King Mackerel in Australia and great eating no problems,

Don't seem to have the problem off Mackay. Cigautera is a toxin which accumulates in fish and goes up the food chain, so would be a bit hesitant about eating extra big Spanish such as 30 kg +, but small 10 - 20 kg fish no problems, and none that I've heard of, Has been a problem off Hervey Bay of the Sandy cape, as there is alot of dead coral up there where the toxin comes from and the smaller fish feed on,

We use a Furuno FCV 585, awesome fish finder, and great for reef fishing and jigging, also with a 1KW though hull transducer. do a youtube search and you'll see some of our great videos on this sounder in use,
