if you dont have enough money for a tip dont eat out. or you can try mcdonalds, burger king, etc. tipping is part of the meal if you dont like it, its because youre cheap so just admit it and say you dont want to but dont make excuses. its Also part of the etiquette of dining out. i tip over 20% regardless of the service i get anywhere i go.
you should always tip your server. servers make $4.29 an hour. sometimes things go wrong and its not their fault. some people are idiots! if you were a server before then their is a good reason why you dont serve anymore...im guessing because you got tired of being treated like shit by people who act just like you !!! servers work hard to make you happy and it is not their fault that you look down on them. grow up

In Florida I voted for the higher state minimum wage a generous $4.29 an hour so why should I tip you under the law your assured $7.31 an hour if you get wages and tips under that by your employer. So what is the big deal if I don't tip or tip 5% or as much as 10% for great service. I already gave you more money from the law in our state in the constitution of the state as a voter that is adequete.
Of course, if your server is not professional, or making an effort to provide you with the basic service that you deserve, you shouldn't tip him/her 20%. But you should ALWAYS tip. Most times, servers share the tip you give them with the busser who cleans the tables, the bartender, and the food expediter. If you don't give your server ANY money, you are taking money directly from 4 different families. 10% poor, 15% fair, 18% good, 20% great. If not, cook your needy ass a meal at home, CHEAPO!
@ericjmagpantay Read the Fair Labor Standards Act, genius. If a tipped employee's direct wages plus tips do not meet the hourly minimum wage of $7.25/hr (as of 24JULY2009), the employer must pay the difference by law. In layman's terms that means no server will ever lose money even if they received zero tips.
@MelkorHimself You're right, that is the law, but servers deserve MUCH more than that. For many people who serve, it is their primary way of paying their rent and bills. It is assumed by employers that people who go out to eat will tip the average amount. Go ahead and support the cheap ass people who go out to eat and save money by not tipping, genius.
@ericjmagpantay Your argument is moot because you assume that there is a universal definition of "cheap", which is really a term used by self-entitled people who don't think they have enough in life. The only one responsible for paying your bills is you, and it is both illogical and greedy to assume that other people should be subsidizing your existence simply because you make below minimum wage. No matter what job you take, you take it of your own volition.
@MelkorHimself I'm not assuming that there is a universal definition of cheap, you're changing it to fit your argument. I'm saying your server is providing YOU a service, and it is worth more than $0. Yes there are those who don't deserve a good tip, and yes, employers SHOULD compensate their servers more, but they don't. I'm saying, tip your server because it's common courtesy, it shows appreciation, and I HAVE been in their shoes. We can say how things SHOULD BE all day, doesn't change it
@ericjmagpantay You ARE paid to do a service that comes with minimum duties listed on a job contract. In this case the pay can be as low as $2.13/hr, and accepting such a low wage does not logically follow that the customers are responsible for subsidizing the wage. It's a false cause fallacy. By law a customer is only responsible to pay for what was ordered from the menu, and the federal government recognizes a gratuity as "a voluntary payment as a gift or reward for services rendered".
@ericjmagpantay get real! ... the price i pay on the menu is price for food and service and table and chair use ,etc ....
it's all included .. .when i pay my bill, i pay 100% of the bill . period! .. why should i pay my bill 100% and then have a waiter beg me for cash... leave me alone!
@MissKaelaJade Maybe Not ALWAYS There Human Like You And Me They Have Bad Days And Having Them Not Getting Tipped Is Just Fucking It Up For Them Even More.
I think that service should be included in the tab and be done with this argument. I feel that these people bust their asses, and then wait for us to give them what they rightfully deserve. Which is why they might be upset in the first place. I see people treating servers like crap, asking some very ridiculous requests, and then stiffing them at the end. I will tip a server 15% if they take my order, bring food and drinks to the table, clear the table. 20% for being happy, extra- friendly...etc
@safaaluna i don't ever think it's right to treat a server like crap, or ask for silly requests to make their job more difficult. Yet I don't agree with some restaurants and that they require a set gratuity especially if you didn't get the service you wanted.
being a server is a tuff job u gotta always be on go making sure your customer is happy its even harder when the server is not happy themselves because then they bring that negativity to a table full of positivity and shit just goes down hill from there. you gotta be a quick and a good actor if you want a good tip.
dollar or 2 is better then none. If they serve you by coincidence a second time, they're more likely to remember you are shitty tipper or don't tip at all and won't give you excellent service because there is no reward in it for them at then end of the night.
As a previous waitress and bartender for MANY years off and on I need to comment. Serving people their food "even as you ask for it" is NOT easy or as simple as you make it sound! Even serving people "as you ask for it" is most of the time extremely demanding and some customers run you like mad and never are happy. However - I HIGHLY recommend tipping a percentage based on your belief of the quality service you got (i.e. 10%, 15%) versus none at all!!

@Knatebetz that's true! it's good to leave a couple bucks regardless, but sometimes a few dollars can be more insulting than leaving nothing at all.
