social security is a direct transfer of money from the Federal Government to the States. Old people pay their State property taxes with their social security checks.
I'm 37 and have been hearing all of my adult life that social security will be broke by the time I retire. As a result my retirement plans do not include social security. I think instead of phasing out SS just say anyone under forty now will be cut off. There's no fair way to end it but there's no fair way to keep it going either.
I feel sorry for this lady. Libertarians (I am one as well) are uncompromisable. And want radical solutions overnight. In the Rothbardian style solutions. I however come from the Friedmanite style solution where these programs needs to be phased out slowly and we work within the current system to accomplish these things. For example Friedman wanted to use a negative income tax to phase out welfare programs. This system would give people a chance to manage their money to pay for 'necessities'.
Are such things (phasing out slowly) possible really? I don't think politicians have an incentive structure where this would work. I don't think the majority of the public will realistically endorse this... not when they can be bought off by X.
Which one of you is the girl in the white shirt checking out?

Is it such a radical idea to stop taking money from people by force?

Those are some smart fokes there in Montana. I wish I could say the same about New Jersey.

Ditto. If you live in New Jersey, most likely you're either a greaseball or a greaseball-enabler. As for me... goodbye NJ, hello NH
