Wow after watching this i think ill stick with my ipad 2 instead of getting a new mac. Kinda funny that after paying double the price of an ipad all you get is very slightly faster boot up times, extremely slightly faster load times and only an extra 1 inch of screen. Oh and dont forget the keyboard. But i can always buy one of those for my ipad. Dont get me wrong, if you have the money then go ahead and spend it on the mac, but if not then the ipad is just fine!

you can't compare a ARM processor (apple call it A5) to a Intel processor. One is designed for battery life and other is for performance. They run on different artitecture one is x86/x64 and one is ARM.

Thanks for posting. I have just received an iPad 2 as a gift and my leaning was always towards the macbook air. I have found the most limiting factor of the iPad 2 to be the fact it only runs one app at a time. I noticed you never mentioned that in your review. I agree no USB is a draw back but can be over come. The performance was marginally different. Their utility is completely different whilst I can do most things that I can on a mac with an iPad there is a definable difference.

I think people who are saying that because they are different, they can't be compared are missing the point. While their core use is different, they have enough overlap to make people have to reflect where they are on a use spectrum to sway them either way. THe thing you are bang on with is a comment about the screen experience. I like the ipad 2, I hate reading text on the screen. I will get another ipad in the future but until the screen is better I'm making the MBA my portable web device.

Good comparison, but it isn't a fair one. An iPad is a sub computer and hand held (in between device). A MacBook air is an all out computer. So it's expected that the air WILL offer more and perform better. It's really an Apples to Oranges comparison, but you did an excellent job breaking it down :)

I own an iPad 2 and this is what I can say about it:

- Really simple to use (and that's a good thing, if you want something that works as a computer, just buy one). The IOS it's about keep it simple.

- It is amazing how long is the battery life.

- It's too addictive. Way more enjoyable than a computer (or phone) for media consumption.

- About the cameras: It's more than enough.

- It's not as flexible as it should be.

- It's not something necessary.

Very nice comparison, even if I don't agree with the conclusion! The battery life of the iPad is a big plus. In addition, I personally prefer the aspect ratio of the iPad to the widescreen of the Air, which makes things seem distorted ( all widescreen computers seem to do that). OSX is far more advanced than iOS for now. That may not be the case in a year. They are both extremely nice devices though. You did fail to mention the lack of wireless AirPlay capabilities that are in the MacBook Air.

@Bardia876 My mom and I do.. We love how cheap apple computers are (with the material we got it is considered cheap). I'm not saying it is indestructible, but compare to our previous notebooks they last much longer and design speaking, quite timeless.

We both work in NI LabVIEW kind of environment, programming, CAD, etc..difference is, I still use the OSX on my machine, but I delete the OSX on my mom's because she simply doesn't need it.
