  • Mott Mott Mott!

  • She's a nazz puller

  • love this mth song!

  • Mott The Hoople were always disfunctional, they still were during the reunion! I believe they didn't actually peak in 73/74', not sure they ever did?The pressure put on Hunter to write hit singles was getting to him.The remastered Live album is Bender's finest moment, but Hunter needed a writing partner,Ronson was the right choice, but once again MTH blew it.Had Once Bitten come out as a Mott song with a tour to follow with Ronson then who knows? Punk still would've swallowed them up by 76' though.

  • It's clear now that I will have to download this album. I'd like to wish all youtube users a healthy and happy new year.

  • such a great album. definitely has that bowie touch. what made him a great producer (and leader of his own backing bands) was his willingness to let the other musicians do their things. all the young dudes is unquestionably mott the hoople's album, yet it's like bowie helped them make it their own album (if you will). plus he gave them that great title track . . . (although i by no means consider it their 'signature song')

  • why the FUCK did mick ralphs leave this incredible band for bad music company

  • @newfuckingwave mth peaked, thas why. he saw a potentially more creative future. don't fault him...they gave us good music that couldn't have been more scientifically put together if you tried, but it happened. so move on...that was 35 yrs ago

  • @ultrakool no i'll continue to be consumed by a 35 year old grudge, thank you . . .

  • @newfuckingwave um...ok. suit yourself, then

  • @ultrakool Dude, cool.

  • @newfuckingwave Between rock star egos and Mott becoming the Ian Hunter show, I never did blame Mick. Bad Co made some great stuff.

  • @paraleverearl i can respect that. it's funny how mediocre an album 'the hoople' (the one after this) was. it had some good songs (golden age of rock n roll, roll away the stone) but it just did not function well as a whole. i had assumed this was because ralphs left, yet i can see what you mean about 'the ian hunter show'. it's not that they sounded different, but rather too much the same. the album was kind of 'mott' but without the magic. all good things come to an end unfortunately

  • "4 dead in Ohio!" Yup, they even covered that. Yeah, they even covered Dion DiMucci. It's called: Your Own Backyard, and it's a 'tribute' song about.....wait'll you get a load of THIS.....Pat Robertson, now more commonly known from The 700 Club. Why? Good question. Because Pat Robertson helped Dion get off of his heroin addiction. "...I have a friend, his name's Robertson..." Believe it or NOT.

  • I saw them for 6.50 at philadelphia spectrum think 6.50 is cheap? Aerosmith opened for them

  • @fastfret94 wow, i was there, too! yeah, a-smith had a touring collaboration with hunter/ronson a few years later (during hunter's 1st solo album tour), as well...this was just after their toys in the attic breakthrough. i think a-smith was ready to headline those shows instead of ian hunter, but evidently, it seemed the promoters didn't think so. go with the proven band, is what i'm sure they thought at the time. anyway, that was a great concert, also

  • This song is pure class.

  • Wow....That guitar sounds exactly like the Stones....

  • I sooooo would have loved to have seen MTH during this period.... damn they were great. I was just a bit too young, so my first rock concert was Queen instead, (not a bad first). I saw Ian and Mick Ronson a couple of years later when they toured with You're Never Alone with a Schizophrenic. I did get to see the reunion shows, and wow, 35 years later they STILL have it. I live next to a venue that has all the current acts and I seldom go.... how can anyone possibly compare to THIS???

  • @telecasterchick - They WERE great during this time. I was lucky enough to see them in Denver (April 16, 1974) when Queen opened for them- their first ever US show. It was a dream concert of my two favorite bands. I think the tickets were $7.00 or something. MTH are still the greatest band ever (in my decrepit old mind anyway...)

  • One of their best, and that's saying a lot. The version on the live album is even better.

  • Saw these cats a few times when Queen and Kinky Friedman were their opening act.

Never saw them with Ralphs or Allen, by this time Luther Grosvenor was playing, (sure would have liked to see them when Mick Ronson played for them)

    No one could beat them...

  • queen used to open for MTH in the old days, you should see their performance at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert

  • stetsmanable, my friend you are clearly a man of great taste and discernment!

  • Live version with Bender's Lead!

  • @rockon18

Fantastic - one of the heaviest moments ever!

  • Saw the original Mott with Mick Ralphs at the Fillmore East and they were Smokin'!

  • @thundersteve1566 Didn't see the original but saw them with Aerial Bender. Good show Ian came out solo singing American Pie and when he sang the line The Day the music died,he added or did it and all these huge puppets and dolls fell hanging from the rafters and the band started jammin, very cool!

  • @SmittyMcGee420 Must have been cool Smitty! Saw the band with aerial at The Capital Theater which was great as well!

  • And didn't Jeff Lynne like this song too!

  • @MottTheWot right. ma ma belle does sound a lot like this riff

  • Mott, the best and most underrated band ever!

  • @rhimember72

    Of course I agree!

  • Ian Hunter, king of rock n roll

  • Great song! I was telling people that Jerking Crocus is a neurological condition-they seemed to think it was possibly true. Anyway-"Gonna rock that thang!"

  • The boys used to open with this one around about the time of the Dudes single. Great memories of seeing em live at Guildford civic hall,Slough community centre,Friars Aylesbury,Liverpool stadium,Rainbow London,Croydon Greyhound etc etc. Still prefer the Island years though.

  • Heavy influence on Mick Jones of The Clash

  • had more sex to this album than I can remember, best part is I married her and still am 31 years later.....

  • I have aways liked this song!

  • One of their best

  • This sounds exactly like MA MA Belle...ELO.

  • @guitarconasor Ah, but this came out before Ma Ma Belle. And Telephone Line is All the Young Dudes 2. Jeff Lynne is a talented bloke, but he's definitely a Mott fan. :)

  • "Judo hold on a black man's balls"

    best line ever

  • @CfuenmayorJr123 oh shit i DID hear that correctly

  • Dayum. Sounds like exactly the kind of songwriting that spawned KISS.

  • Great song great band

  • This band could have taken over the world, nothing topped a live show with Mick or Luther or Ronson in the line up. Pete was an icon and one fine boy...

Buffin we will always remember you...even though things are slipping away from you now...

    See ya'

  • You need make no apologies for posting this song. MTH was one of the best rock-and-roll bands of all time, and this is one of their better songs. On the whole I like Hunter/Ronson better (perhaps), but this is still great.

  • *YAWN*

  • @TruthAxe It's past your bed time kid, go to bed.

  • it's been decades...

  • Great song that owes more than a bit to the Rolling Stones, specially those open tuned chords. Love it!

  • One of the great seventies bands........ plus Hunter has had an amazing solo career - his recent stuff is just top notch.

  • Can someone post I'm A Cadillac/El Camino Dolo Roso

  • @yarg54 yes, that is a great song !!

  • This is one of the best tracks on both albums. The best version is on the 1976 Mott Live Double Album. I think I've seen it mixed twice and the double album version is the best.

  • Some say Ian Hunter wore shades an awful lot of the time...others say he wore awful shades a lot of the time.

  • one of my fave songs period! Perfect!

  • Saw MTH 10-17-73 at Buffalo NY, with Aerosmith & New York Dolls. Snowy evening, the Dolls were directing traffic in their "costume" out in the parking lot. Ariel Bender was on guitar w/ MTH. Ian had the H guitar. Great show!

  • For me,this is one of the greatest records of all time.Brilliant album.Every song still sounds so great after all these years.Wish I could have seen them in concert

  • Alway's loved this song by Mott the hoople-good one to jam with-bluesgambler.

  • album produced by Bowie....a classic....they were going to break up but Bowie saved them...thanks David...

  • I just got a laptop and discovered the utube music has come a long way in last few years, never thought i'd hear this again and I havent stopped dancin in circles. Been 1 of my favorites since I found MOTT/IAN HUNTER at 13 in 1982. THANK YOU. I don't know a soul whose heard this song. WHAT A SHAME! the influence in so many bands in unbelievable.

  • Pure motherf%*king rock!!!

  • its so funny now .. i was 13 when motts live album was smokin hot ! in 73

now im 50 ,, thanks brings me way back !

  • heh...18 in 73...welcome to the 50's hd...keep rocking...seeing YES on my birthday Feb 5th...@ Penn's Peak...

  • as good as this song (it's one of Mott's best ever) but the "Mott Live" version is even about 10X better...

  • best mott song

  • @tonygotmoxie

    Exactly what I've always thought.

So Jeff Lynn got it from this song, I'm guessing.

  • Had the LP, then finally copped the (bitch to obtain) 8-track to perfectly compliment lotsa totally stoned top-down motoring the day I left home for college in '72!

    Thx for the post, warpigs!

  • What a great album and song..........saw ariel bender in houston after he left mott and started widowmaker.

  • Excellent, but the live version is about 10 times heavier. :-)

  • Yeah, there is a similarity to Brown Sugar

  • One of Mott's best tunes, in my opinion.

  • first thing I thought of was Brown Sugar,,anyone hear it?

  • @Frontierblues

i'm hearing ma ma belle by elo more than brown sugar

  • @ultrakool

    Exactly what I've always thought.

So Jeff Lynn got the guitar licks from this song, I'm guessing?

But it seems to me that Ma Ma Belle also sounded like a Move song. But I can't place that one right now.

  • A great cut from a truely classic glam-rock LP.

  • One of my favourites. The live version, with ariel Bender, is even better

  • Saw MTH on Saturday in Monmouth!!! Awesome sound that was exciting and made me think what a bland load of tosh music is today. Keep on rocking and see them if you can!!

  • u said you saw them, London? and if so, how long did they play and what did they play? me (a Yank) and the music way before my time, i wish i was there...ariel Bender or Ralphs on guitar with Ian Hunter was a Ass Kick'n Band...my time was Guns N Roses in 88 Giants Stadium, New Jersey.

  • @smartfreddy you lucky bastard lol

  • @smartfreddy Bull SHIT.

  • @smartfreddy I'm a huge fan of 60's and 70's rock but I also love so many of today's modern music....maybe you just have'nt been introduced to the right stuff. Check out Foo Fighters in concert....they'll melt your face off with their "awesome sound"! Or how about a trip down the rabbit hole with The Flaming Lips, their front-man, Wayne Coyne is a genius! But, Radiohead is my modern music favorite. Have you heard of these bands? You might like them.

  • I am going to see MTH Oct 1 !!!!!!!!!

  • GO GLAM xx

  • wanna go to London gigs

  • GREAT GUITAR LICK!!!

  • One of the greatest bands ever!

  • Lady Ga Ga is a nice puller

  • a time when rock n roll was fun

  • Here we have a song that may be about a woman but is definitely about life. Ian Hunter is telling us and, with his bandmates, shows us as Mott the Hoople that life is to be enjoyed, appreciated, - lived. Not, necessarily, understood. An affirmation of life in all its oddness. Greg G. of Portland

  • Dunno. I think it's about sex.

  • Probably my favorite Hoople song of all time.

  • yea, knockout subtle keyboards...so MOTT!

  • Great tune always, but hey were alive and take it from a father of a metal brat, Life begins in the eyes of others,

  • Bless ya Hooplers!....nice that MTH is digging out their archives for their fans

  • i feel like a teenager again...

  • one of the GREATEST albums ever. Ian is god.

  • Fun song. Played this in a cover band in '76.

  • So did I!! There ain't music like this no more...

  • Well, as far is I am concerned, this groovy little piece of music sounds even better than some of the most famous Mott The Hoople- songs, which I have heard. I think that I am going to visit the local record store. 8.raita or Kane in Turku

  • the live version rocks ass too.

  • I like the Mott Live version. Good ol' marble mouthed Ian. Glam will always be a part me!

  • @SadEyedSue The live version is truly stunning!

  • the whole album is outstanding.

  • It's a love song.

  • Love this one too... thanks for the addition. (She's a nads puller)
