@iamweejonny I'm pretty sure you already found the answer since your post is about 6 months old but just in case, Arrowhead is a standalone expansion which doesn't need Arma 2. Also, there's Arma 2:CO which combines both games for those who don't want Arrowhead standalone.
@Ten0fSwords dude, this game is based on dedicated servers...the campaingn is almost made for coop...what do you mean it needs dedicated servers? i had them all along
@Maurosso Maybe he meant BIS servers hosting. You know like Americas Army if I remember correctly the US Army (or developpers I don't know) have "official" servers hosting games.
The only thing BIS needs to work on in that area is more protection against teamkillers, cheaters and stuff like that although since OFP a lot of efforts have been made through BattleEye.
@Victortrotska true...but if the servers were hosted by BIS...they wouldn't be dedicated. They would resamble the IWNet crap from the new Modern Warfare. Plus ArmA isn't a game that would benefit from any form of a ladder or achievments system (God forbid!). The most lucrative form of playing the game is in coop with friends...There's hundreds of coop teams open for new players, were the true awsommnes of the game shows. And if you want to pwn noobs, and have a quick buzz, have some battlefield.
@Maurosso I never said I wanted this... I am merely trying to explain what TenOfSwords was trying to say. I enjoy ArmA's realism. I am not interested into shooting up everything around to get medals or stuff in a counter strike like style.
i played ofp and arma1 and now iam playing arma2. The AI is the same, the bugs which are in Arma2 were be fixed in Arma1. The AI is too bad for a open world game too. So dont only say its a good game.
@saberdam My friend this is a good game. Yes it might need a better engine but a new engine for this simulation needs a huge amount of time and money. The AI is set so it can be both smart enough to give a challenge to most players and CPU friendly.
The AI can be improved with the current engine but it would require a monster computer to run it without huge lag.
So we have to make do until time and money are available meanwhile let us support BIS!
@GamingMusicVideos1 I was thinking the same. Maybe the US developped a low speed AGM-114 or the game developpers wanted it to be slow to make it easier for players (being able to launch several of them like in the video and having enough time to designate several targets) or some other limitation.
Why do the enemy grunts just stand or walk calmly around as vehicles are blowing up around them. Surely it can't be that hard to program AI to take cover when all hell is breaking loose around them.
Are they change the sound system? Few month ago hungarian developer say, they recreating the whole audio system. Is this the voice communication of AI or the whole sound system? A2OA will support 5.1? If i shoot 50 FFAR from Mi24 the sound doesn't mute like in A2?
BIS stop hiring fans over the internet to do your voice acting!!! You might also want to fire your story developer for someone who's head isn't up their ass.
@cappearma It is campaign voice acting as you would find in any other SP component of another game, it is fine, as it was in the original. Peoples complaints are with the AI communication, not the voice acting.
arma II is the best game ever..has some bugs but i don't care..its open source for soundmods and missions..if you want ragdoll or stuff, play bad company or call of duty with comic gfx ..this game is for real..physics could be a bit better, but all the rest is killer..its a virtual playground for adults and not for spraying bunny hopping kids..

@7th75thCallaghan That's utter bullshit. The Operation Flashpoint series lost its immersive quality when it switched to Armed Assault, mostly because they adjusted the FOV. Now 100 meter engagements seem like 300 meter engagements. (Do you even know how large a person looks at 300 meters? Play the marksmanship qualification range in America's Army 1, where the FOV is set perfectly. I know, because I've been on those firing ranges.)
@marksoutermusic To be honest, I haven't played ArmA 1 & 2 much BECAUSE of the FOV (field-of-view is not the same as view-distance, you know). I tried changing it in ArmA, but that screwed up the HUD at the same time.
It's much easier to enjoy a quick half-hour of infantry combat in Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. Check out some of the videos I recorded from it, using the Realism mod that some dude made.
I hope Operation Arrowhead isn't as buggy as ArmA 2. Can't edit a good mission!
@IWannabeJew No it doesn't mess the HUD up, and it affects gameplay in a good way, because you have a wider FOV. If you go in your C:\users\iwannabejew\documents\arma 2\iwannabejew.arma2profile. You can edit it in notepad and go right to the bottom and you will see two lines saying FOVtop and FOVleft, multiply these numbers by the desired amount then go on save, then change it back to arma2profile and then try it in game, should work fine :)
@marksoutermusic If you set FOVtop to 0.25 and FOVleft to 0.32, that is about how it should look, assuming that you could not zoom with right-button. Try it out, just to see what I mean.
Each square on the map is now exactly 100 meters, or is it still a little more?
I just need to figure out what settings are needed in order to make the zoom equal the correct FOV. Is there a way to set the amount of zoom you get with the right-button?
@IWannabeJew I can't help with the zooming sorry. I only know about the FOV thing hehe, I will try your idea for the FOV and tell you what I think, peace.
@PolDee187 im 13 that counts as a young teen but i still cant stand mw2 or bfbc2 i dont have this but i want it, btw ive shown my freinds this and think its 18 times better than cod
@MasterMorg86 All i can say is, play Gossamer's Warfare with Mando Missile in Combined Operations on Takistan. That missile targeting system from Mandoble and that warfare is the sickest shi* you've ever played. that is real war and one match takes like 4-5 hours :)
I get the feeling that the engine is getting old ... i hope they will create a new engine after operation arrowhead , which will be not so buggy , support newest graphic shaders, physx , ragdoll , and a very inteligent ai ... please boheima make a new engine and all the problemes will be solved .. i think the old engine has a habbit to produce bugs more than other engines ...
@chabi3000 It's not the engine but the open-ended nature of the game that allows for many bugs to occur.
A game like CoD has no excuse for having bugs because it is very limited in what it offers, but in ArmA you can do whatever you want, where ever you want, when you want it, there is so much stuff that can happen that you cannot possibly account for all the possible problems.
I'm afraid that all games like this will always have some bugs left.
@SiCDisaster Actually, lots of the bugs are easily noticed and have nothing to do with the open-ended nature of the game. (It's the editing of the mission that determines whether it is open-ended or not.)
Don't get me wrong. I think the Brothers Spanel are great guys, but their code is a mess. The code was a lot more solid back when Ondrej was doing most of the coding.
Operation Flashpoint: Elite was nearly bugless. (The bicycle could be used to "swim" through the water.)
@IWannabeJew i ignore the bugs on ArmA 2 and 1 but when it come's to the Bug's on the last couple of mission's of the ArmA 2 campaign that actually make you have to restart the Level is unavoidable and very game breaking. hopefully these sort of bugs wont make it to campaign, i also hope you can do this UAV + Apache thing on editor without having to do a shit load of scripts cause it look's awesome
@chabi3000 If you're willing to buy a super computer to handle all those real time physics on such a huge scale then I'm sure they'd be more than happy to oblige there. Until things like PhysX and more cores with properly implemented parallell programming are the norm, games like this with such a massive potential scale will always be "behind" in areas like ragdolls. ArmA 2 uses a WHOLE CORE devoted JUST to AI if you have a multi-core CPU. AI is VERY CPU intensive stuff, this is real AI too.
@IWannabeJew Arma 2 runs bad enough, dont need more to make it perform worse. That syncronising ragdolls over the internet is extremely hard without it looking extremely bad so it is fine that there are no ragdolls.
@dotted1337 Arma 2 runs perfectly well as long as you know how to keep a pc clean and optimised. It runs as well as any simulator handling the same volume of data, so get over it. This addon will have improved performance from the original, no other game has the amount of highly-detailed tree coverage as can be found on ´Chernarus´.
@7th75thCallaghan All you need is to set up memory and graphics card well (especially memory latencies in BIOS) if you don't have most powerful stuff. You don't need to optimize OS. BTW for high textures in ArmA2 you need very powerful graphics card. You can play on worst machine with lower graphic settings.
@7th75thCallaghan Terrain streaming is in FSX, not in ArmA2. In ArmA2 terrain is being loaded into memory. Hard drive is working only when terrain is loading (once).
@tysiek123 Getting tired of replying to these unresearched comments. Terrain Streaming is one of the most important features of BIS programs, it is one of the things they are most proud of. Don't comment if you don't know please, it misleads people.
@7th75thCallaghan Bullshit. Even with 8 Gigs of RAM it experiences slow-downs, because of the terrain streaming, which is why fans have experimented with installing the game on a RAMDRIVE.
It appears that YOU are the fucktard who doesn't know what he is talking about.
Too much rain on the brain, I'm guessing. Moldy synapses? Bad teeth causing blod clots to the brain?
Beautiful country and people...on the outside, anyway.

@7th75thCallaghan By the way, dickhead, I actually worked on Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis. Have you noticed that the graphics in ArmA lack that certain something that OFP had?
That's because their best artist isn't even with Bohemia Interactive, anymore. (No, I'm not talking about myself.)
@IWannabeJew What a charmless liar you are. I dont need to do research to know you didn´t, you are probably 12 or something, you sound it at least. ArmA II looks so much better than flashpoint when set up correctly that you are just making yourself sound more and more ignorant, well done, keep at it all you like.
@IWannabeJew You obviously haven´t got a clue what you are talking about then. You cant compare those titles, they are nothing alike. Moreover, ww2 online looks like crap, this game is stunning.
@7th75thCallaghan Really? I haven't got a clue? Another dumb-ass Brit, I see. I was THINKING UP the "infantry simulator" while I was in the Army in the late 80's. Ever play EA's "SEAL Team", released ca. '92? I've been following the tactical first-person shooter genre ever since.
Are we talking about graphics, now? We WERE talking about physics and processing power!
If WW2OL, which has a 1/2-scale map of EUROPE (not a 12km x 12km island), can have ragdolls, so can ARMA! (cont'd)
@IWannabeJew Again, bullshit. If you knew anything of simulators, in particular the engine arma uses, you would appreciate that ragdoll physics are not only near-impossible, but also superficial and entirely unecessary. I´m surprised someone who claims to be your age would use a phrase like ´dumb-ass Brit´ against me, it only serves to make you look stupid and childish, congratulations.
@7th75thCallaghan Arma 2 already has ragdolls, but they are VERY hard to see, just spawn a soldier inside a building with zero hp, if done correctly, he will fall like a ragdoll
Bohemia for life! Now some may say it's bad and buggy.. somewhere it is.. but this game is so big.. so learn to live with it.. and @n3uromante: Nothing wrong with tanks.. some bugs just show people pirate the game.. I pirate too.. but this is not worth pirating.. arma 2 for life!<3
A lot of nice features even if not being able to shoot from vehicles still quit annoying, even through it's already possible on Vbs2 and the community also asked this more than one time.
Also for an Afghanistan based map they could have reworked their engine enough so it could handle undergrounds and caves ... After all it's what makes talibans so hard to destroy on mountains...
For those worried about the "lack of realism" in Arma vanilla just wait for ACE2 and Mando missile to be ported.
ACE2 will hopefully fix the odd and wrong flight-angle of the Hellfires...
However, it simply looks awesome... FLIR is just superb... as i saw that glowing tracks of that Tank... My God!!! WOW!
One thing however, the HDR-Effect affected FLIR and almost prevents a clear targeting of the 3rd of those missle-trucks. Hope this will be improved somehow if possible.
Yes, I think if you turn off the bloom in the graphics options you should be fine. Also there are ways to remove the HDR completely and also the motionblur.
You should probabley wait to play it before you make stupid comments like that. How many expansions do you know contain: 2 new maps, tons of new vehicles, added features (FLIR etc), improved graphics engine, performance optimisations etc. Not a bad list for an expansion. Better than the crappy "DLC" you get these days.
@ArmAMedia As was OFP resistance and yet it still came out successful, Why the fuck would BI make an entire new game/engine when they have a good one to update in front of them?
Looks awesome, but I would really like to know if the Apache (gunner) has self laser-designation allowing the same type of designation like the one shown on the UAV of this video? While the UAV is and will be a great asset (making the Apache less vulnerable), in real life the Apache can self-designate targets without the need of the UAV.
If it doesn't, it will soon after release with ACE2. ACE2 already has this down but obviously in a very basic form, provided they can just copy whatever is used for the UAV to do so, it should be sorted easily.
@nctarheel26 Eat my weiner. I play the series since Operation Flashpoint, it hasn't changed by an inch except for graphics. I'm a bit tired of spending money on the same old product, every time with some more makeup to make it look younger and different. But I guess it's a fine game for someone that doesn't know dick about how real military hardware works and likes to go all pew-pew on some random targets.
Well I got my hands on Ofp a couple of weeks after its release in 2001, and I agree with you that even if the graphics have evolved a lot, the physics and animations "particularly weapons interaction" still as poor as they were.
But hey, Bohemia ain't a huge company dude, it still awesome how far they gone with such limited resources on a niche game, when todays companies take the easy way "look at Rainbow6 and Ghost Recon and also the lack of sequels for SWAT or H&D" ...
Thats just the mission dude, voice acting is all... well said in one sentence. But reporting enemies should be just like in ArmA2, tho they said they'd redo that aswell.
@Kristian1944 I know, hence why I said voice-acting :P. It's much better than ArmA2's cast, and Eagle Wing which was a lot worse. Everyone sounded like they were 11.

I get the feeling that the engine is getting old ... i hope they will create a new engine after operation arrowhead , which will be not so buggy , support newest graphic shaders, physx , ragdoll , and a very inteligent ai ... please boheima make a new engine and all the problemes will be solved .. i think the old engine has a habbit to produce bugs more than other engines ...
chabi3000 1 year ago
@chabi3000 They won't create a new engine for now, maybe in the next year but not now. I agree with you though but it won't happen for now
Oizzack 1 year ago
@chabi3000 It's not the engine but the open-ended nature of the game that allows for many bugs to occur.
A game like CoD has no excuse for having bugs because it is very limited in what it offers, but in ArmA you can do whatever you want, where ever you want, when you want it, there is so much stuff that can happen that you cannot possibly account for all the possible problems.
I'm afraid that all games like this will always have some bugs left.
SiCDisaster 1 year ago 30
@SiCDisaster but still the graphics, the ai and the behaviour of the physics is getting very old ....
chabi3000 1 year ago
@SiCDisaster Actually, lots of the bugs are easily noticed and have nothing to do with the open-ended nature of the game. (It's the editing of the mission that determines whether it is open-ended or not.)
Don't get me wrong. I think the Brothers Spanel are great guys, but their code is a mess. The code was a lot more solid back when Ondrej was doing most of the coding.
Operation Flashpoint: Elite was nearly bugless. (The bicycle could be used to "swim" through the water.)
IWannabeJew 1 year ago
@IWannabeJew i ignore the bugs on ArmA 2 and 1 but when it come's to the Bug's on the last couple of mission's of the ArmA 2 campaign that actually make you have to restart the Level is unavoidable and very game breaking. hopefully these sort of bugs wont make it to campaign, i also hope you can do this UAV + Apache thing on editor without having to do a shit load of scripts cause it look's awesome
CARBRINE 1 year ago
@chabi3000 If you're willing to buy a super computer to handle all those real time physics on such a huge scale then I'm sure they'd be more than happy to oblige there. Until things like PhysX and more cores with properly implemented parallell programming are the norm, games like this with such a massive potential scale will always be "behind" in areas like ragdolls. ArmA 2 uses a WHOLE CORE devoted JUST to AI if you have a multi-core CPU. AI is VERY CPU intensive stuff, this is real AI too.
TalesOfWar 1 year ago
@TalesOfWar You don't even need a super computer.
predhunter 1 year ago
@TalesOfWar If War War II Online / Battleground Europe can have ragdolls (v1.31 beta), ArmA II certainly can!
There are really no more excuses left for not having ragdolls.
IWannabeJew 1 year ago
@IWannabeJew Arma 2 runs bad enough, dont need more to make it perform worse. That syncronising ragdolls over the internet is extremely hard without it looking extremely bad so it is fine that there are no ragdolls.
dotted1337 1 year ago
@dotted1337 Arma 2 runs perfectly well as long as you know how to keep a pc clean and optimised. It runs as well as any simulator handling the same volume of data, so get over it. This addon will have improved performance from the original, no other game has the amount of highly-detailed tree coverage as can be found on ´Chernarus´.
7th75thCallaghan 1 year ago
@7th75thCallaghan All you need is to set up memory and graphics card well (especially memory latencies in BIOS) if you don't have most powerful stuff. You don't need to optimize OS. BTW for high textures in ArmA2 you need very powerful graphics card. You can play on worst machine with lower graphic settings.
tysiek123 1 year ago
@tysiek123 I would also reccomend a fast hard disk with a large cache, due to the games dependency on terrain streaming.
7th75thCallaghan 1 year ago 2
@7th75thCallaghan Terrain streaming is in FSX, not in ArmA2. In ArmA2 terrain is being loaded into memory. Hard drive is working only when terrain is loading (once).
tysiek123 1 year ago
@tysiek123 Getting tired of replying to these unresearched comments. Terrain Streaming is one of the most important features of BIS programs, it is one of the things they are most proud of. Don't comment if you don't know please, it misleads people.
7th75thCallaghan 1 year ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@7th75thCallaghan Bullshit.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
@7th75thCallaghan By the way, dickhead, I actually worked on Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis. Have you noticed that the graphics in ArmA lack that certain something that OFP had?
That's because their best artist isn't even with Bohemia Interactive, anymore. (No, I'm not talking about myself.)
IWannabeJew 1 year ago
@IWannabeJew What a charmless liar you are. I dont need to do research to know you didn´t, you are probably 12 or something, you sound it at least. ArmA II looks so much better than flashpoint when set up correctly that you are just making yourself sound more and more ignorant, well done, keep at it all you like.
7th75thCallaghan 1 year ago 2
@7th75thCallaghan Uhm no it doesnt. And my PC runs quite well thank you.
dotted1337 1 year ago
@IWannabeJew You obviously haven´t got a clue what you are talking about then. You cant compare those titles, they are nothing alike. Moreover, ww2 online looks like crap, this game is stunning.
7th75thCallaghan 1 year ago
@7th75thCallaghan Really? I haven't got a clue? Another dumb-ass Brit, I see. I was THINKING UP the "infantry simulator" while I was in the Army in the late 80's. Ever play EA's "SEAL Team", released ca. '92? I've been following the tactical first-person shooter genre ever since.
Are we talking about graphics, now? We WERE talking about physics and processing power!
If WW2OL, which has a 1/2-scale map of EUROPE (not a 12km x 12km island), can have ragdolls, so can ARMA! (cont'd)
IWannabeJew 1 year ago
@IWannabeJew Again, bullshit. If you knew anything of simulators, in particular the engine arma uses, you would appreciate that ragdoll physics are not only near-impossible, but also superficial and entirely unecessary. I´m surprised someone who claims to be your age would use a phrase like ´dumb-ass Brit´ against me, it only serves to make you look stupid and childish, congratulations.
7th75thCallaghan 1 year ago 2
@7th75thCallaghan Arma 2 already has ragdolls, but they are VERY hard to see, just spawn a soldier inside a building with zero hp, if done correctly, he will fall like a ragdoll
scoutbr00 1 year ago
@scoutbr00 That isn't ragdoll physics, it means something in particular, google it.

When is this coming out?
Zip1223 1 year ago
A lot of nice features even if not being able to shoot from vehicles still quit annoying, even through it's already possible on Vbs2 and the community also asked this more than one time.
Also for an Afghanistan based map they could have reworked their engine enough so it could handle undergrounds and caves ... After all it's what makes talibans so hard to destroy on mountains...
For those worried about the "lack of realism" in Arma vanilla just wait for ACE2 and Mando missile to be ported.
dunedain101 1 year ago
ai acting like spastics once again, just standing there like retards whilst missiles come in at them a few feet away.

Other than that, really cool!
ChristianCohn 1 year ago 3
@ChristianCohn
Yes, I think if you turn off the bloom in the graphics options you should be fine. Also there are ways to remove the HDR completely and also the motionblur.
XiaoPow 1 year ago
Well let face it, its just arma 2 plus addons!
Not disrespecting BIS but this there are no real changes here!
And of course we should not be surpised since this is just a "addon" (standalone) to A2 and was aimed at causal FPS gamers.
ArmAMedia 1 year ago
@ArmAMedia
You should probabley wait to play it before you make stupid comments like that. How many expansions do you know contain: 2 new maps, tons of new vehicles, added features (FLIR etc), improved graphics engine, performance optimisations etc. Not a bad list for an expansion. Better than the crappy "DLC" you get these days.
llpqazz 1 year ago 2
@ArmAMedia As was OFP resistance and yet it still came out successful, Why the fuck would BI make an entire new game/engine when they have a good one to update in front of them?

Nice - I did notice the AI (Foot Soldiers) weren't overlay reactive to the missle stikes.
Still blimbling along in some sense doing nothing (I'd personally be dashing away trying to find some cover)
plondonlad 1 year ago
@plondonlad Agreed I wish BIS would do something about that , if they just ran off and regrouped would do for me
gregderm 1 year ago
Looks awesome, but I would really like to know if the Apache (gunner) has self laser-designation allowing the same type of designation like the one shown on the UAV of this video? While the UAV is and will be a great asset (making the Apache less vulnerable), in real life the Apache can self-designate targets without the need of the UAV.
hornetf18 1 year ago
@hornetf18 Agreed. I hope they got it right this time or we'll have to wait until ACE mod fixes it.
TokenWhiteGuyAGR 1 year ago
@hornetf18
If it doesn't, it will soon after release with ACE2. ACE2 already has this down but obviously in a very basic form, provided they can just copy whatever is used for the UAV to do so, it should be sorted easily.
XiaoPow 1 year ago
The UAV is flying at an altitude of 40? is that realistic, the enemy can easily shoot it down!
Axmaddaahir 1 year ago
@Axmaddaahir No, it's not realistic. Aircraft in BI games always fly tree level, unless you script them to fly higher.
TokenWhiteGuyAGR 1 year ago
@TokenWhiteGuyAGR
It's a simple command in the units init entry using "this flyinheight 200;" (without the quotes) which is 200 meters.
TwistLosi 1 year ago
@TwistLosi Right, but I'm stating the aircraft in BI games fly low by default.

nctarheel26 1 year ago
@nctarheel26 Eat my weiner. I play the series since Operation Flashpoint, it hasn't changed by an inch except for graphics. I'm a bit tired of spending money on the same old product, every time with some more makeup to make it look younger and different. But I guess it's a fine game for someone that doesn't know dick about how real military hardware works and likes to go all pew-pew on some random targets.
n3uromante 1 year ago
@n3uromante
I know right? And what's with World of Warcraft? I guess it's an alright game for people who don't know how to case spells in real life.
randir14 1 year ago
@n3uromante
