A couple of yrs ago SOAD played Ozzfest and received $350,000 per show. Each band member had their own tour bus and when they played overseas flew in their own plane. Conversely, DFD toured the country in unreliable vans and later a small camper and played before small crowds in shitty venues. DFD never had the financial backing SOAD did but they had the creative talent that SOAD never had. They're the greatest band most people never heard of and broke-up because they were broke.
@ripbtd SOAD started out playing on small places in front of small crowds. They were traveling around, playing because they loved it, without giving a fuck about what people would think about them. Then they played at Ozzfest for the first time and were signed by a record company and people started to notice them. They´re still surprised since they never excepced any publicity. Both SOAD and DFD have a lot of creativity and innovation, none of them deserve to be picked on in my opinion (:
Oh dude no doubt he's a good guitarist. He's a major reason why the first two albums were so awesome. Him not shutting the fuck up is why the next two albums were mediocre at best.
I liked it back when he rarely appeared vocally in a song, and when he did it added something to it. His occasional manic lyrics were awesome. However he's NOT good enough to be a lead singer or even a back up singer.
@glnohax I really believe his whiney ass voice on every other fucking track is why the last two albums sucked so hard. Well, I guess they didn't suck that hard but compared to the first two they were total shit
Dear fellow SOAD fans: This song is by DFD. Don't care if you don't like it or not that is the artist that should get the credit for this song. First of all - How many times has SOAD used a keyboard? Maybe once or twice right? So there's a change. Second - If this song was really credited more to SOAD, don't you think you could find it on Itunes or Amazon or somewhere? I'm not a big DFD fan but it would be nice if we didn't let our fan-isms get in the way of the true artists.
@IEATTHECHILDREN ud be surprised i just saw like 5 SOAD vids with keyboard. one of them is my faverite son "lost in hollywood". i like both bands but ive always loved SOAD . i very much like DFD
I know this is kind of lame but I love dfd....however the only music i have....had of them was burnt for me. Anyone know the names of the other songs on this album.........and is Jeff the keyboardest, still with the bad? love to talk to him again!
@KennyTheHM At the beginning, its a pattern of 3 measures of 4/4 followed b 1 of 5/4 that repeats four times. At 0:28 there are two measures of 17/8. At 0:33, 16 measures of 6/8. Then at 0:50, there are 23 more measures of 6/8, but it sounds offbeat because they're divided into 3 groups of 5 and one of 8. At 1:14, theres 4/4 until like. At 1:47, same as 0:50. At 2:11, it's 4/4 until.
@KennyTheHM At 2:28 there are 7 measures of 3/4 and one where the last beat becomes part of the count off into the part at 2:41, at which point it goes into a pattern of 2 measures of 2/2, followed by one of 3/2. At 3:02 its 4/4 until 3:48 which is like 2:41. At 4:07 it is like the beginning except that the third and fourth repetitions of the pattern end in another 4/4 measure as opposed to the 5/4 measure they would normally end with.
god I love this song, for a while system was my favorite band. but I just recently got into dfd nd polka dot cadaver. this is like mixing 2 amazing bands. I love it, i preffer dfd a little bit more, but i still love system. I think dfd's 1st album shouldn't be considered metal though, its more jazz and blues style. but after that it was definately more of a metal mixed with everything imaginable. Thats why i love it though, its so different from the new age crap.
@smartboy64 They were/are both highly experimental for what they were doing, just in different ways. SOAD was more rooted in Nu Metal and Alternative, and added tinges of death metal, eastern, hip-hop, and some other smaller influences. DFD was more in the vein of bands like Mr. Bungle, where they were alot more all over the place, but had the real basic roots in Jazz and Metal. Both bands sound extremely unique in their respective ways.
@guitaRNoob911 i agree with you completely. both bands are amazing, before i really knew about dfd, system was my favorite band. they are both so different, thats why i love them. 300X better then all the new age stuff in my opinion. i dont consider system as new age, by new age crap im talking about 7/8 of the stuff on much music and on the radio.
@danielesepacheco Yeah right, during these 3 weeks I started to listen to DFD, and it's 2001 :-D I just wasn't sure cause of serj's style of singing - I couldn't file it into some year. ;-)
@Abcde384 Not entirely. There certainly are bands that have MUCH more talent than others. Take all the sellout "metal" bands. There are bands that just flat-out suck. And ignorant people think that being famous means that they are good. Goddamn sheep.
@sojirokaidoh2 You've got it half right. For a band to get famous, they have to be liked by a wide margin of people first. They have to make music that people like in order to achieve their fame, and once their famous, they don't become sellouts until they stop making the music they want to, and start making music purely for the money. it's seams like a lot of people don't realize that a band CAN be very famous and still make good music.
@Abcde384 DFD and SOAD are two different genres? DFD is Experimental Metal band, and SOAD is a rock band. People can like to pretend that SOAD is Metal but its not, and anyone who has seen them live could tell you that. Its rock(that's not to say I'm dissing SOAD its just the genres are diff) keeping that in mind I think DFD is a stronger band because their music style is less limited by their genre and fans, and their lyrical content is far superior.
@avantgardebrain lol comparing Bungle to DFD, that's weird. Sure fans will enjoy both groups but they are nothing alike my friend. Nothing. They kinda represent this East and West Coast Music scene in a way.
This song is really cool, and yeah, it does sound like a cross betweed DFD and Mezmerize's stuff. When it comes to who's better, I really wouldn't know, I love Darkest Days and Ego Brain, so... I say a tie. None of our stores have any DFD, and that kinda sucks, lol.
DFD is really unique and definitely less mainstream than SOAD. But if you think they are more talented then SOAD then you really don't know anything. System is at an entirely different caliber. Compare a couple good songs to the toxicity album and then it'll hit you.
@farsah14 Toxicity was a great album but go back and listen through it now. Most of the songs all lost there appeal like listening to fgwsss by MSI now. Plus after that album everything went down hill for SOAD. you're nuts... it doesn't sound much like SOAD... has more of a sound of Mr. Bungle (DFD was hugely influenced by MB)... if only Serj hadn't been involved, SOAD wouldn't overshadow the true credit for this song.

I used to be the biggest SOAD fan ever, it was literally the only music I listened to...I have posters completely covering my walls...Every CD, loads of Picks and Stickers, etc...Then I found DFD/Polkadot Cadaver...Their creativity was definately devoted, as is SOAD's, I listened to DFD for a while, after that I started listening to SOAD again, I just couldn't really get into it........Brittany Spears rules.
The truth: In the summer of 2000, DFD recorded Anarchists of Good Taste for release on Spitfire Records. DFD found out that Serj is a fan of the band. They sent Serj two songs that would fit his vocal style: Cartoon Autopsy and Mushroom Cult. Serj chose Mushroom Cult, recorded his vocals in L.A. and sent a disk back to the studio in Towson, MD. In 2001, Serj invited DFD to play 3 shows with SOAD and much fun was had by all. And yes, it is a tragedy that DFD is no more. Such is life.
Actually, no they're not. Todd, Jasan and John recorded a Polkadot Cadaver record; Todd and Jasan are now members of a new band called Knives Out; and Todd is in the process of recording a solo album under the moniker, El Creepo. DFD officially retired on January 13, 2007, but reunited for a show on September 12, 2008 to celebrate the release of Beating a Dead Horse (CD) and DFDVDII.
Seriously, why is there a pic of SOAD when DFD made this? Just because Serj does guest vocals doesn't mean his pic should be plastered all over this vid, it should have a pic of the actual members and writers of this song, DFD.
i thought this was soad. to bad. i guess u can tell by hte keyboard. but u thought serj played keyboard? damn im so confused. so this band is dog fashion disco. guest vocalalist is serj. ok. i get it now. :P
Even though only serj did the vocals, i cant feel think he deserves partial credit, come on, u gotta admit it sound preety damn tight, and i love this guitar style :D
This song was written and performed by Dog Fashion Disco. It was on the album Anarchists of Good Taste. That's why this song was "never put on album" because it's on Anarchists of Good Taste. Serj Tankian did guest vocals for it. That one guy was right. No wonder DFD never took off. People don't even know when they are listening to them!
Really, though, saying this is a SOAD song is like saying Survivalism is a Saul Williams song.
It's actually the other way around, Polkadot Cadaver came from DFD. DFD started making music in '96, disbanded in '07, and announced Polkadot Cadaver in seemingly the same bulletin.

seriously the person who posted this as SOAD is a fucking idiot and anyone who thinks this is SOAD is not only and idiot but not a true fan of SOAD or Serj......Serj just did guest vocals plus this sounds nothing like SOAD or Serj
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Haha poor poor Dog Fashion Disco. They get no credit for this song even though it's a far more musically intricate song than SOAD's stuff. They were so talented.
Yea I know but SOAD has all their songs that they never put on album OR they played a part in the song and they called it Storaged Melodies, and that's the songs I'm putting up, I don't who really made the song . . And SOAD added parts to the song and their obsession with mushrooms, lol
I have noticed(thank god im not alone). In sugar Serj is talking about "kombucha" mushrooms which are apperantly used in tea or related to tea in some fashion. So he's either refering to the chinese, who discovered it's uses, or some other group of people. There songs sure are cryptic though.

Actually, DFD is back together <33

Actually, no they're not. Todd, Jasan and John recorded a Polkadot Cadaver record; Todd and Jasan are now members of a new band called Knives Out; and Todd is in the process of recording a solo album under the moniker, El Creepo. DFD officially retired on January 13, 2007, but reunited for a show on September 12, 2008 to celebrate the release of Beating a Dead Horse (CD) and DFDVDII.

@dfdrox Thats awesome, I never heard about knives out, thats so sick. I'm a huge Alter Boys and DFD fan. Thx for the post

Seriously, why is there a pic of SOAD when DFD made this? Just because Serj does guest vocals doesn't mean his pic should be plastered all over this vid, it should have a pic of the actual members and writers of this song, DFD.

Anarchists of Good Taste was a great album!!!!!! the orig members were talented, damn nice guys. god i'm gonna go play it out again now =)

i thought this was soad. to bad. i guess u can tell by hte keyboard. but u thought serj played keyboard? damn im so confused. so this band is dog fashion disco. guest vocalalist is serj. ok. i get it now. :P
BustaMonkey1234 3 years ago
serj DOES play keyboad but on this song he was just a guest vocalist
jonlscott 3 years ago
No. Serj only contributed vocals to this arrangement. The instruments are played exclusively by members of Dog Fashion Disco.
dfdrox 2 years ago
How did they convince Serj to sing for them? i mean.. DFD wasnt that big back then....

Its a shame, they sound pretty good.

DFD either came from Polkadot Cadaver or a couple of the dudes started PC afterwords
but if your liking this you might like them, its fairly similar
sorta
Ulubai 3 years ago
It's actually the other way around, Polkadot Cadaver came from DFD. DFD started making music in '96, disbanded in '07, and announced Polkadot Cadaver in seemingly the same bulletin.

seriously the person who posted this as SOAD is a fucking idiot and anyone who thinks this is SOAD is not only and idiot but not a true fan of SOAD or Serj......Serj just did guest vocals plus this sounds nothing like SOAD or Serj
Mexican7107 3 years ago
Thank You. It is Serj doing guest vocals for Dog Fashion Disco.
Bartholomule01 3 years ago 6
this doesn't seem like system of a down's style
it barely sounds like serj singing, and the style of music is all wrong

Haha poor poor Dog Fashion Disco. They get no credit for this song even though it's a far more musically intricate song than SOAD's stuff. They were so talented.

No wonder Dog Fashion Disco never got big like they were supposed to... people don't even know when it's their freaking songs!!

Yea I know but SOAD has all their songs that they never put on album OR they played a part in the song and they called it Storaged Melodies, and that's the songs I'm putting up, I don't who really made the song . . And SOAD added parts to the song and their obsession with mushrooms, lol
justin93749 3 years ago
you couldnt be more wrong, this song is by DFD featuring Serj Tankian on vocals
and:
1:Storaged Melodies is a bootleg it´s not official
2:This sounds nothing like SOAD
h1soka 3 years ago 5
Yeah, it certainly doesn't sound like a system song... but Serj is still really easy to recognize lol

Dude you dont notice the mushroom lyrics in most of the soad songs? in sugar, or hypnotize?
deth4 4 years ago
I have noticed(thank god im not alone). In sugar Serj is talking about "kombucha" mushrooms which are apperantly used in tea or related to tea in some fashion. So he's either refering to the chinese, who discovered it's uses, or some other group of people. There songs sure are cryptic though.
