Hi James, love your videos. I've had my 2 1200's for 24 years! Lugged them all over the place. Never had an issue with them. In fact the only thing I've done is replace the lights to blue LED's. Sure there are cheaper tables out there, but why fool around? It's like going to see a Prince impersonator because it's cheaper instead of just going to see Prince. My advice is spend the money and go see Prince...by the Technics! :)
I bought a pair of these in 2000 from a DJ shop in Newcastle for about £300 and their actually Soundlab DLP 32 S. These were great decks when I first bought them but after a couple of years of being chucked around in taxis & a couple of gallons of lager spilt in them they give up!!! These decks have great torque but the pitch control is horrible compared to the tech. SL1200 / 1210
Bought my sl 1210mk2 in mint condition (as new) everything worked perfect except for a stuck tone arm height adjuster (fixed with a hairdryer) .. paid 220€ with a ortofon OM pro
i would never argue about that the pro sound won't compare to sl 1200's in terms of build quality or or features, but their ain't SL 1200's.. I went for the classic, and if i could have gotten a just as good för half the price doesn't matter.. Nice turntable thou the pro sound :)
I'm not saying the other turntables are bad... but! Do yourself a favor and go for the original. I bought myself a pair of used Technics, cause, where I'm from, two new ones are expensive as hell. Technics are built to last. Mine are 5 years old, I paid 40% of the price of new ones and they look and work perfectly. Friend of mine has 3 that are 10+ years old and one of them was tossed from the stage into the crowd, fell onto solid concrete and is still working. I guess you can't beat that.
still going to disagree on the quality. Technics have more than 30 years of heavy abuse behind them. those Prosounds dont. plus, I've seen stuff happen to technics that I can't imagine any other turntable could survive
I've owned a pair of those exact turntables. They are a mix between a Gemini XL-600 & a Numark TT-1900. You are certainly right about comparing the features with the Tech, but the pro sound turntable is most certainly of a cheaper quality, but they last with proper care. I have a Gemini XL-BD10 which I bought in 1994 and it still works great. The whole thing is plastic! I would prefer Technics though cause of the feel. I want something to feel solid and heavy and the 1200 is the one.
Dear Smergheed why do you feel the need to big up your overpriced audio eqipment and slate other peoples knowledge about a subject we all come on YouTube to learn more about? If you know it all (as you clearly do!) then leave us £40 cartridge buying amatures alone please.
Buy the way it was a very imformative video, thanks viperank
I just wonderd yeh, does the turntable pitch lock? Like on some cheapo direct drives when you push the record forward it like spins away from you and takes a while to go back to the right speed where as on a Tech its like bang.. instant locks to correct speed.

@SlimeTron5000 It's an expression (American, I think) that means when you buy something cheap and it works cheap, "you get what you pay for." However, as shown in this video, that isn't always true. Sometimes you get more than you pay for. And sometimes, you get less (as in the iPhone 4).
Some people believe that if you pay a lot for something it will be very good. So if something costs less, it must be less. I disagree with that idea. Bargains can be found everywhere - even on E-Bay!
Hey i bought a set of these ProSound decks dirt cheap. still have not used them i gotta replace the cartridges. Are pretty much all cartridges compatable with this set? Im not looking for anything great nor do i have any knowlodge on dj equipment.
I saw these going cheap so i thought i would add these to my home studio since i produce hip hop but also would love to learn how to mix.
@SoulAssassinz36 hi there, yeah pretty much any cartridge will fit, they just screw on, as for scratching, as long as you have some fairly descent needles on there there actuality quite good for scratching they have got a good amount of torque. im actually quite amazed at the build quality of these things considering how cheap they were, there actually good decks, hope this helped and thanks for your comment.
@SoulAssassinz36 hi there i have a prosound L64AA its been in a box for about 4 years got out today pluged in the phono's but not got a earth plug on my amp so left it out but when i play it the sound is very low do i need to put the earth lead somewhere thanks
@viperfrank Please tell me more about "remote deck sync". The plastic pitch bend buttons are not 'weak'. I cannot find any information about "prosound" on the Internet.
I don't understand those comments criticizing the review...Frank compared each aspect of the turntables side by side, but people like SMERGHEED just dismiss that comparison with arguments like : "EVERYONE knows that Technics are awesomer than any other turntable, therefore you shouldn't bother to compare". How can you know Technics are better, without checking whether they actually are ?
@veltmore1 lol!!!.....read what i wrote again and I didnt dismiss his video....all I said was that the decks he was comparing were no way near a technics and I found it wasnt a fair comparism. Also I know alot about the hifi industry and I have never heard of any one tuning up anything other than a technics where they spend another 500-1000 pounds on top of the deck.......learn to read my friend....
you cant compare a technics to a prosound!!!..lol!!......you can replace everything in a technics and they are so good they are an Audiophile fav aswell because of the build quality......also the platter will not wobble and it will run true and the tone arm is miles better than any offering on the DJ turntable market.....compare it to other decks but not a technics because that is not in any way a comparison
Try a gemini pt 2000 or any of the new Stanton decks and stay away from Citronic!
@SMERGHEED i agree with you. Technics turntables are VERY!!! good turntables. but i disagree with you that you cant compare them to other turntables, as i said in the video they are both direct drive turntables, weather the pro-sound one are as good as the 1210 is irrelevant, they are still a competitor to one and other, its not like i compared a scooter to a train they are both turntables. and it may surprise you but actually the pro-sound one are pretty good.
@viperfrank lets put it another way...a Ford Fiesta is a good car but I wouldnt compare it to a BMW...lol!
Vestax,Stanton and Numark a comparible but they are still not built or sound as good as technics peroid!
I had a go on some homemix belt drives and held a mix for around a minute, I would say they are good decks aswell but they are no way in the league of other decks. Pro sound are not even made any more and I would say they are more on par with the old Gemini or Sound lab decks.
@SMERGHEED so true! lol the thing about technics turntables is that there built to last....for ever! lol every dj in the world i would imagen has a pair of technics & every club in the world i would think has a pair. i cant really see them discontinuing the technics 1210 anytime soon because they are the bollocks!
@Threemicsrecords you no nothing fella....My Dad Patents HI-FI and also writes for HI-FI critic and is good friends with Martin Colloms and he knows most of the top boys in HI-FI in blighty and The Audiofile shop frequently upgrades 1210's.
I know that it is direct drive and not belt with the power supply and motor shouls be seperate but they just happen to sound very good..period.....and if you want to get into a pissing contest your hi-fi is no way as good as mine let alone what my Dad has
@SMERGHEED Oh boy, first of all, I haven't said anywhere that I have better hi-fi that anyone here so it is silly that you started that. Second, I haven't said that technics' TT's are bad, they are very easy to setup and hard to kill but IMHO they don't have so-called soul. Best. Simon.
@Threemicsrecords you come on here saying this and that about technics and you obviously havnt listened to much hi-fi equipment let alone turn tables.Just because you have done some coarse in music dosnt make you some guru on turntables. When you have listened to a decent hi-fi other than your own for example 18 or 35 grands worth come back to us fella. Russ andrews power cable on my 1210mk5g made a difference. What cart do you have as it looks like its a £40 ortofon..lol! try a Koetsu cart....
@SMERGHEED Well, if you mind to see more of my video, you will find that I also use Audioquest cartridge. And you are wrong that I don't have much experience with high end audio. I also have friends that have high class speakers and very expensive tuba amplifiers, so I agree with you that good equipment sounds great. Cheers.

They replace the power supply with an upgraded one,the pitch control is bypassed and upgraded....power cable is replaced along with the rca cables and a silver earth cable is fitted and a decent cart is fitted not some 50 pound piece of shite....more like 300 pounds plus....
@SMERGHEED The Technics SL1200's only become a audiophile deck when you upgrade the tone-arm! I use a SL1210 mk2 with a Rga RB251 tone-arm with a Goldring 2200 M.M. cart. just for playing vinyl and it sounds beautiful!

@Jimlist9 The ProSound is a discontinued line. It's a Maplin Electronics own brand. I should know, I worked there.
I got mine for just £20 as it was the last left. And it plays 78s at a fine quality.
Try Ebay.

hey man i got them dirt cheap of a friend.
You will struggle to find them as u can't even find any info on them online.
I got rid of them because i picked up a piar of 1210's.MK2
You should be able to get these pretty cheap now days to 2nd hand.
Buying them 2nd hand is no difference to buying new take in consideration they look in good nick as these are built like a tank.
Tbh honest there was not much difference between them so if u manage to find either cheap go for it.:)
