normal people dont need to worry about the sign of numbers, if it is not internalized in your head then you dont need to bother learning physics, and when you deal with relativity you can encounter problems where time might be a negative number.

@lifeDotGov I agree that it's tedious, but he does say that this is for people who really really don't get the material. I think in terms of who he regards as his audience, he does a very good job bringing the point home for people who haven't had teachers really sit down and teach them the basics.
