Surely this video would be more relevant if the ABS on the test cars was turned on?

Most cars on the road these days aren't going around locking the front wheels completely in an emergency stop...

You are right in that using ABS makes the test more relevant in today's context. However, disabling the ABS in the test acts as a control to make the tests more consistent. Different cars have ABS systems that are calibrated differently. Reducing the amount of variables in the test makes the test more reliable. The emphasis in this case is tire tread depth. Adding ABS into the variable may skew the tests slightly, bridging the gap between tires with high depth and low depth.

I see what you mean, and agree that it's a good idea to turn it off during the tyre test, but it did seem a bit harsh on the people estimating stopping distances who might have assumed the car had ABS.
