Mr Clontz I salute you for making the most beautiful sound on the most beautiful guitar ever made. A great performance, as are your others, but this one I could listen to more (even than the original) thanks to the gorgeous Ric and your arrangement. Thank you for posting.
@invictorium This is the natural tone of the Rickenbacker 12-string with compresssion. I did use a chorus on the "second half" just to give it a slightly different sound for that part. Thanks for watching!
Im new to the 12 string and my ric still sounds not rite when i tune all the strings in 440.Is there a string thats tuned in an octave different? I cant find the jangle sound. If anybody knows what Im doing wrong I would appreciate the advise. Thanks!
I've always wanted to lear to finger pick, specifically different rythems like you can. I have no idea how though. I've been playing for 5 years but I play electric and acoustic with a pick. Any advice for a newcomer to the style?
@OrgodemirDQ7 All I can say is just sit down with the guitar and work at it. I am not a very good finger picker because I've never practised the technique much. I play mostly with a pick. I need to practice myself!
@BuddyClontz Yeah, I don't wanna sound like I'm bragging, but I'm very good at electric and acoustic with a pick lol. I can listen to just about anything and play it from ear, but dear God, I can't keep up with fingerpicking to save my life! lol.
hi BC - well, I remember why I put the '66 away in frustration years ago .. agggh theyre a PAIN to work on! Broken petrified p/u wires ( 3 hrs soldering and reassembling), the new $150 Ed Roman 12- saddle bridge didnt fit the baseplate ( 2 hrs with a dremeltool), 2 hrs to string it, and it PLAYS!!! this is all your fault LOL! now- another 8 hrs setup and intonate and it'll be ok hehe. I'll try post a clip when its sorted out - thanks for inspiring me!! (its still your fault ) :) Marc
Good deal Mark! I hope to see your video soon. When you get totally frustrated with it...just send the guitar over to me. Speaking of Ed Roman...I purchased the Fireglow 360-12 in this video from Ed about 9-10 years ago and it is a great guitar. -BC
thanks for these posts Buddy! I swear this weekend my '66 360-12 (disassembled for years) is comin back together and gonna get played! You're the inspiration!
Hi. I am strongly considering a Rick 12-string and came across your video. I think this video moved me to about 99% certainty! I'm going to check out your other vids.
Thanks! Does that mean I get a commision?...LOL Actually, they do take some getting used to because there are 12-strings on a very narrow neck so you have to play very precisely...but with a little practice, you get used to it. The Rickenbacker guitars are things of beauty. They are made very well, with a fit and finish that will rival most any custom shop instrument out there...and absolutely no other guitar will sound like the Ric. -BC
Thanks! Everything I play is in standard tuning! I do NOT tune my 12-strings down a half step like some suggest. I have them tuned to standard tuning because they are designed to handle it. -BC
Great performance! Fantastic sound. I noticed an early band pic you once had a Lab L5, my favorite amp for a Rick 12 using loads of compression and reverb. If you still have yours, try hooking it to the Rick-o-sound, then the other side to the Fender, then place that in another room, hallway or stairs. Great results possible. Hope your hand heals soon.
Thanks! Actually, that amp was probably a "Lab clone" of some type and it belonged to a friend of mine who used to play guitar back in the days when I was doing the drumming. My hand is slowly recovering and I hope to keep playing for a long time. -BC
Still coming back to this great performance of THE classic Paul Simon tune. BTW, I picked up my 2006 Montezuma Brown 370/12 this week. It was custom ordered with toaster tops by the original owner. Rather like a McGuinn model without the onboard compressor.
Very good! I also have a Montezuma Brown 370 VP with Toasters...and a Monty 360-6 VP with Toasters. That finish is as nice as Rickenbacker has ever produced. You'll really like it in my opinion. I'd like to see some pics of it when you get it.-BC
Is there anyway to get that signature "glassy" sound from a twelve string other then a ric? I only ask because as a lefty, it's impossible to find one for me, and i love that sound.
Yes, that is the color of the one I have a deposit one. Are the pickups toaster-tops? They look like yours. I'm a Strat/Tele/Les Paul guy. Don't have much info on the Rics.
The pickups in my Rickenbacker Guitars are all Toaster Top Vintage Reissue 7.4kOhm pickups which really help with that classic Rickenbacker sound. -BC
I always return to hear you play this. I have not heard anything to match this superb sound here on youtube!! A friend of mine who used to play the folk clubs here in England/Scotland tells me that the folk singer Martin Carthy wrote the song and gave it to Paul Simon. Has anyone else heard this?
Thank you for your kind words! I think(not sure) that this song(the melody) is very very old...and where the lyrics came from...who knows? At the moment...I am still recovering from an operation on my left hand...so playing is rather painful and difficult for me right now...but I'll be back hopefully!-BC
I enjoy your playing. I have a question for you though. I am currently looking for Rickenbacker videos so I can see what type of sound they make, and so far it seems to be a very clear trebley sound. Am I right? Or are they more versatile than that?
Thanks! The Ric can sound like anything else for the most part...but nothing else can sound like the Ric! They can sound very warm and full but are best known for that sound that you hear on my videos. Thanks for watching! -BC
I respect his playing ability but I don't consinder myself a fan. I never really listened to The Smiths, etc. very much so I am not a good person to ask about Johnny Marr. -BC
Really nice sound. Always liked the song, and I've always liked the Ric sound. Putting them together is a real treat. Nice guitar collection you have!
Great playing on the Ric 12 !!. I have not quite made the transition to fingerstyle yet on my Ric 360/12. Are you fingerpicking with nails or are you using a pick ?
Thanks! I am using my finger tips on this one. No picks and not much in the way of fingernails either...LOL I did use flat picks and a metal finger pick on the "Turn Turn Turn" #2 Short that I recently posted. Check it out and you'll hear the difference. Thanks for watching! -BC
Will check that one out. I have the problem with the "G" and hitting the octave string first with my "i" or "m"; I've thought about reversing the strings on the G only to see how that would work. Are you brushing across two strings ? Keep posting those performances.
I'm reall a guitar player, but I've learned to play piano. I own an electronic keyboard which has a variet of different pianos, organs, celeste's and harpsichords and other sounds.
