The Second Lief building interface is crap, I'm trying to make electric guitars but putting the photo realistic (non trademark violating) texture on it is a sheer nightmare! They didn't take actual workability into account when they designed the build interface

No doubt it could sound really cool if it were transcribed for multiple guitars. The problem is this type of music is meant to to express things, which means every note and harmonic were played for a reason, not just because it sounded cool. Theres no lyrics remember :- p Anyways, I saw this video a long time ago. It is awesome and it compelled me to give Second Life a try... Don't like the game, my internet sucks, and I dont have the time to learn to create 3D objects or write script :(

If you are talking about the body of the guitar...he used Second Life. If you're talking about the textures on the guitar, he probably just used a picture of a real guitar that he did some editing on in photoshop.

This technique really isn't so hard. There's some guidelines that should be followed though or you'll mess up your prims. This videos pretty inspiring for an advanced SL builder. ^_^

umm.... he CLEARLY didn't take it apart and play it in reverse, because it shows him actually shaping the prims. Now if he just magically made each prim appear in the correct shape I'd believe he took it apart and played it in reverse, however this video is legit.

This is much harder than it looks. The guitar looks so mathematically precise, but this implies it was done freehand. Also there is no editing window. You have to enter parameter #'s and position #'s. I surmise this was specially done outside of SL and with software to record w/o windows and the building software on someone's PC.

From experience I would say that's really unlikely. I've seen some incredible things built freehand in SL and Robbie is one of the best. He's just so good he makes it look easy. The texture for the front was done outside of SL and imported since there is no texture editor in-world.

It's not hard to make a video that's larger than normal and then crop it so that windows and such are no longer in the picture. I don't know that this is how it was done but that's one possiblility. There are also video capture utilities that grab stuff from a specific part of your screen rather than using the video feature in SL.

Hi bassetdl, thanks for the question and your comment. Actually all of the internal shapes form the external sides to the guitar too, often circling round to the other side, through the middle. There are no redundant parts... thank!
