  • i thought he said War Admiral there at least once.

  • cool name

  • he destroyed that field

  • it would be great if they would bring war emblem home from japan . we wouldnt want him to end up like ferdinand

  • My first real personal experience with horse racing. First time i've ever been asked for my favorite. I gave him. War Emblem. I know he was the favorite. But, as a front runner you are never the true favorite. But, War Emblem was different. Well, my friends family payed attention to what I had to say in the preak and the belmont. Well, the belmont wasn't any good. lol BUT! WE was a phenomonal horse.

  • I broke down and cried when he stumbled in the Belmont. I wanted him to win so damn bad, he was such a great and beautiful horse. One of my favorites.

  • "War Emblem is still there...he's got another gear." - I love that horse! He gave me my first win, and he would have been a triple crown winner if he didn't stumble.

  • The owner of War Emblem Prince Ahmed Bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, died of heart attack two months after the big win.

I attended his consolation in Riyadh. It was a sad event. May God provide him with mercy! Amen.

  • This is my favorite race this century. Even tho I finally got a chance to see the Derby in person in 2007 when Street Sense won, this Derby and War Emblem remain my favorite. The main reason is it is so rare to see a horse go wire 2 wire in a Derby so this race was really thrilling. Thanks Bob Baffert. Hope you're able to do it again in the 2009 Derby,

  • The year before was had a insane pace of 44 4/5 - 1:09 & change, that cooked every horse within 5 lengths. This race was the polar opposite, let a front runner with a ton of talent just "steal" this race with legit fraction of 47 & change- 1:11 & change. Just think if the two totally different paces were exchanged and then try to figure out who would have won???

  • bob bafferts greats purchase

  • I was so sad with his Belmont stumble. He was such an exciting horse, a real star, never to be forgotten. He's liking the girls more now, thank goodness.

  • I read an article somewhere, maybe bloodhorse that War Emblem is doing better in the breeding shed.

  • Victor did a great job guiding this monster to the wire.Does anyone have the splits on this Derby?

  • he did a really good job in that race he is such a good horse!

  • I love War Emblem!

  • War Emblem, as I read from bloodhorse is doing a whole lot better covering mares. I wish he was over here in the U.S. I would loovve to see him.

  • Now thats LATE KICK!!!

  • Wow this was great, thanks for posting,,

it gives me chills to see a big race like that, and a perfect run.

The announcer is great in the final stretch " he has another gear" as he pulls away. "!classic.

  • i miss war emblem

  • I remember.

  • Poor Eight Belles

  • war emblum is beautiful, is he at stud or still racing? I like War Pass and Eight Belles this year

  • War Emblem, at last I read anyway, is still standing stud in Japan. He's proving to be what breeding experts call a "shy cover"; very selective to who and when he chooses to breed. It's too bad, because he may yet sire some very important horses in the future with his bloodlines.

    Take care.

  • R.I.P Eight Belles

  • Answer: No. War Emblem was a 20-1 longshoot who was largely ignored by the other jocks and permitted to run soft early fractions. Big Brown will be the postime favorite and the other speed types will keep him company the whole way. No soft War Emblemlike pace tomorrow, and Big Brown fries on or near the lead and runs off the board. LOL

  • Hah, you couldn't have been more wrong about Big Brown! I love it that you got your comeuppance yet again. Your infinite wisdom, especially about Big Brown, is rolling in clover with the rest of the horse manure, as usual. I'm sick and tired of reading your annoying, and incessantly negative comments here on YouTube. You're blocked. I don't want or need your garbage on this channel. Hit the bricks.

  • Now the question is can Big Brown do that... from post 20?

  • WoW, did he ever!! He was much the best on Derby day! I love his style. I really hope he pulls off the Triple Crown!

    Take care.

  • War Emblem was actually my favorite race horse ive ever betted on and watched . He was also the last derby winner i picked i think he went off at 20 - 1 maybe 25 i think it was 20 - 1 but i had 10 to win was pretty nice definetely enjoyed the memories of this derby and video.

  • Last I heard Perfect Drift was still racing.

  • "He's got another Gear!!"

  • oh :( i miss those days :'(

  • last time you will ever see a horse get an easy lead like this in the derby.

  • My one claim to fame, when I hit all of the exacta and half of the triple, for a profit of @ $10,000.

(My friend loved Saarland, despite my impassioned pleas for him not to back that big lump of coal. Even today, I can get him all riled him up just by saying "Saar...")

Three years later, my wife hit the Giacomo (50-1) jackpot and there went the old bragging rights, down the drain.

  • Victor, the jockey of this horse is a close friend of one of my girlfriends

  • I was pulling for Came Home, after getting over my disappointment,I realized I saw a frontrunning masterpiece. Just incredible turn of foot by War Emblem. Too bad he is a shy breeder, maybe he'll come back home where he will be appreciated. Not just looked at as a money machine!

  • Durkin is the greatest announcer of all-time.

  • Tom Durkin makes me want to stand up and shout, he brings tears to my eyes every time. War Emblem's lines run back to Man O War. Stunning to look at, thanks for the footage.

  • You're absolutely right, Durkin sure knows how to make things exciting! War Emblem is a wonderful horse indeed.

    You're most welcome.

  • When was the 2002 Kentucky Derby ran?

  • The Kentucky Derby is always run the first Saturday in May.

  • Victor Espinoza is the man.

  • The person who showed him to us said that he is doing slightly better than last year as a stud, but wouldn't give detailed information. He is very well taken care of, though, and lives in what is pretty much a Ritz Carlton for horses.

  • Terrific to hear. Thanks.

  • Hello!! thank you so much for this, I love War Emblem and so glad he is well taken care of. Baffert choked up after Belmont when he said WE was a courageous horse. I thouht so, that stumble had about 3 parts to it and he struggled back all way to front for about 10 sec and just got tired.

  • I saw War Emblem two months ago at the farm in Hokkaido, Japan where he stands stud. He is a beautiful horse, and it's great to see this video of his win.

  • That's wonderful! How is he doing? Is he performing better as a stud now? I'd read that he had a tendency to shy away from the mares.

Thanks for the info and compliment.

  • i won alot of money on War Emblem thanks for uploading the vid

  • You're welcome. Take care.

  • Thanks for this cf. This is the TC race that got my attn again, partly bcse access to internet at work. His Belmont still hurts. I just want him to come back to US fm Japan safely and go to Old Friends or somewhere safe. He just doesn't like stud work.

  • Hi bon. You are most welcome. Hope you've been well. I agree, War Emblem was an excellent horse and I too hope they can recover him from Japan to live out his life here in safety. Old Friends is a wonderful site. I love the stories of the old legends living in peace and giving a thrill to people. Have a great day. God bless

  • go to barbaralivingston dot com, the equine photographer, enter our boy S in gallery, see him in SNOW at Claiborne,at water troth looking rt at camera, & sweetest one w/him sticking his nose over fence. Also Ogygian(SP) who is at Old Friends.

  • Ah yes, Barbara's site is wonderful. Big Red looks his usual amazing self in those pictures. ^_^ I've made a few comments here and there. My screen name is SecretariatIsPegasus. The Old Friends site with Ogygian was terrific as well. Thanks for posting. Take care.

  • WAR EMBLEM IS STILL THERE!!! He's got another gear!!

Tom simply kills me with his calls!!

  • Yeah, that was a great call. Durkin really makes it fun.
