The uke has the same relative tuning as the first 4 strings (the four bottom strings) on a guitar. So if you play "D" on the Guitar, that's a "G" on the uke.
push the strings in the bridge holes and fish them out thru the sound hole. I haven't changed the strings yet, but it doesn't sound too difficult. He recommends tying the end around a bead to hold them in, but I'll use whatever he's got in there right now.
wow, thats strange you posted this. I spent an hour last night reading the Waverly website about ukulele construction, and I've been watching several of his ukes on ebay. I'm keeping my out for the next pineapple he makes. I like the "woody" sound, maybe from the sycamore?
