Ive own 2 rubicons stock. Was thinking about a 4 inch lift and stock tires would that be able to handle stuff like this? Also do they come with sliders or do I need to add that? Any other upgrades I need to go out crawling like this so that I dont break something?
I have an '85 Grand Wagoneer with 4" lift, rear locker, and 31" tires that is almost ready to hit that trail... Now if I can get my buddy with his '86 Bronco.
Great way to inject noise and pollution into the wilderness. Offroaders have nearly ruined a number of Sierra lakes with feces, and they keep leaving trash on the trails. It shows an inherent lack of respect for nature. If they really want to prove something they'd hike that route. White-trash culture needs to go.
@Antithropocentric shut the fuck up. its not just what trash, it a hobby and for some a profesion, so dont talk about something you dont know. go hump a tree or whatever you fuckin hippies do
@Antithropocentric i think you should go live in the middle of wyoming, so nobody has to hear or read your shit. leave us to our hobbies you tree huggin bastard.
@Antithropocentric i would love to see you hike 300 miles in a day... and you must eat too? there is good and bad in all outdoor groups weather you're driving or on foot. some place you just can't hike to my friend.
@Antithropocentric I leave no trace, most people that offroad (I know) pack out their garbage. Most Jeepers care about the environment (otherwise we would be left with only pavement). This is our hobby, and apparently posting inflammatory comments in places that you know will provoke a irritated response is your's. As for your theory about having something to prove, I hike a 50 miler annually (last summer I did a considerable chunk of the Appilacian trail). OIIIIIIIO
Are most of these jeeps manual or automatic transmission? I've been in the market for my first jeep and still haven't decided which route to go. This is video is exactly what i'd like to do with my jeep if that gives anyone an idea about what i'd be doing with it.
@SCZTY10 If I was you, I'd get a manual. I got a '94 YJ with a manual and it amazes me how easy it is to tackle terrain that'd I'd second guess with an automatic. Ever since I stated driving a manual, I've kind of frowned upon wranglers with an automatic. I think it's part of the wrangler experience to have a manual.
lovin the arb turn on onj the black on at 1:00 great lmao i got a 1997 and its my cherished car i had to sel;l :( but it had arbs 33's low gears it went up a 90' degree incline
Awesome video! I'd love to have a Rubicon, I don't see my stock Z71 hanging with y'all on these trails, but I do too much hauling/pulling to have a Jeep right now... that and there aren't many trails like this in Alabama. Really nice vehicles and driving, though!
Stock rubicon has ultra low low range selectable locking axles and well everything you need including an electronic sway disconnect so other than a lift it's completely capable.
Just did a part from Wentworth Springs to Buck Island Lake. Bypassed Little Sluice. Have 33's and 4 inch lift. Bottomed out a lot and got beat up, but made it with some help. Great time! You can do it with a group to pull you thru the tough spots, but expect some damage. But, hey, we don't do this to keep our rig pristine! Have fun..be safe
i have a very mildly modded jeep all i have is 2 inch blocks under the leaf springs and and 33x11.50 mud terrain what would be the min mod you guys think i shoud have before i travel the rubicon trail?
I would say lockers and as many skid plates as you can get. The Rubicon is very rocky and if you don't have a lot of ground clearance (and sometimes even if you do) you're going to be dragging the underside across all kinds of stuff. But really the lockers (rear, at least) are key.
That is some sweet video. I own a YJ with a 4" lift. Rear locker and 33" tires. Would a Jeep with that build up be able to take on that trail? Awesome video. Thanks.
Yeah, you should be good. For comparison, in our group there was at least one completely stock 4-door JK Rubicon. It was able to drag itself over almost everything and you've two extra inches of lift and a shorter wheelbase.
@Geepnut you're comparing locked tj's with body armor to a leafed out yj, and the Jk rubicon has an even better running gear and suspension, carefull with your yj, don't get yourself hurt
Proud owner of a 2006 Rubicon Unlimited... I have to get descent gas mileage out of it, but stock configuration didn't have enough clearance. So now I'm running a 3" lift and 32" tires on factory rims. Looks good, little beefier than stock, and much better performance off road. But is it enough to run the rubicon trail? I have JKS quicker disconnects as well. But the clearance is what is bothering me. I know I would need some rock sliders.
That sounds like a pretty sweet setup. You're probably already aware of how useful those lockers are. I agree with you on the sliders, more of those would help. Also, be warned, the stock rims are very soft when they come into contact with rocks - you'll definitely come out with some gouges. But that's part of the fun! See my comment below, a stock 4-door JK Rubicon ran in our group and made it through - you should definitely go for it.
@mpjai2 at 5:20 where is that on the trail coming in from loon lake? thanx.Plus good vid. kudos to the cameraman. some of these vids are useless. Last time I was up there was in my k5. made it to the base of little sluice but didn't try to go thru. Gary was still running Uncle Tom's, thats how long its been. It's funny how he used to try to talk me into going thru in my blazer. He used to say "I know a girl that took a blazer thru". ANYBODY, hows the trail now? I heard it is paved from icehouse
Thanks...it would be tough to guess the price of the jeep if it were to be sold today. Blue books don't take into account the thousands of dollars worth of parts that have been added.
Thanks for posting!
Hopefully I can conquer "the Rubicon" someday.

usually people do that to keep the jeep from rolling over. It gives it traction where it needs it, and keeps the weight balanced.
