Well, that's not actually JB's band. The only one in there from his band is St Clair Pinckney on tenor sax! This is actually Letterman's house band, led by Mr. Paul Schaefer, who is the guy watching closely as James is on the piano!
@garethac81 That's because it wasn't HIS band. Paul Shaeffer's autobiography talks aboput how JB wanted to use his own drummer the next time he did Letterman's show.
