now newbies will follow you and smack their shins and roll stuff on them for years, shame on you. Think about it, do you see professional fighters or the thais in muay thai camps doing this to their shins?? Go slowly and hit the heavy bags/pads, this way you practice your form and improve your strength, speed, and you also condition your shins over time. Whacking your shin with something is a great way to get those bumps on them, which sets back your progress 2x more than those u get from bags..
@timootei kicking another persons shin, hip bone, elbow, head, etc. half speed or harder is not as bad as what i just did in this video. Both fighters kicking and connecting shins is even worse. Part of this drill is shin conditioning, and part is the mental training of overcoming the fear of pain, which is amplified when self inflicted.
@vonhelmet i'll admit that the mental training and experience from practicing your conditioning methods can't be achieved from pure bag work and sparring other than shin-shin/knee contact which could make this method pretty useful
i cant wait just found your videos tonite that looks like a blast lol jk . . . .what part of the country are you from i really like your unorthodox style of fight/strength/enduracne traing i will start to take notes . .and practice and preach your method
@vonhelmet As some of the other commenters have implied, it looks like you're going too hard too soon. You may be doing more harm than good (judging be the amount of pain you're experiencing). Gradually working your way up to that intensity level will produce the same results, and it's safer. I recommend starting with a rubber mallet.
@buck22dblaze gotcha! Well this is the thing. I have been conditioning my shins for years. It is painful but I can go this hard on them. The following day I was kicking pads and bags and was fine. This is just one phase of my training not the only way i train.
I gave my shin a hard smack. Now there one deep hole in my shin. It doesnt hurt when i am jumping or doing any physical activities but when I massage it hurts so much. Can anyone tell me what to do ?
i think you should start with easy hits, and progressivly hit harder and harder over the weeks, because i think you need a lot of hits, not just a few ones. If you hit yoo hard you will only take mabe 10, but if you go moderate you might go above 100, which is better.
i just started traing a couple weeks ago and i got kicked in the shin pretty hard (with out padding) and a lump has formed and been there for almost a month. ive tried to roll it out with pvc pipe and it seems to flatten but hasnt gone away, it dosent hurt but when i kick my heavy bag it stings. should i be worried or will it just go away getting kinda nervous please help
@kootchbitch you will be ok don't worry. It takes time for your shins to "harden" in the beginning the recovery time takes longer. Go easy on them and give them time to heal. Once they seem to be better then you can step it up again. This process you will repeat over and over again. Good luck!
@vonhelmet thank you . i was getting nervous im new to the mma scene well the actual fighting part. i like the way you put it by staying "battle ready" . and i cant afford a gym membership so i dont have coaches or anything so thanks again for the advice!
If conditioning is hurting you this much (which is pretty obvious from the expression on your face) then its clear you are doing more damage than any actual good. Conditioning bones and joints should always be done at a snails pace, starting off with strengthening the muscles around the joints and bones first through weight lifting, stretching and hitting the heavy bag or pads. Conditioning bones is very advanced stuff and should be done with care and extreme caution.
@H0tkebab I can guarantee you that a full power or even mid power at that, kick hits way harder than that. How can you spare or fight with out shin pads if your conditioning never gets to this point and further. I have done the light training working up to this.
youre a sadist whos to lazy to fucking train it on a sack, so you do it with this stick. Like goku got his tail wipped out when he needed to kill baby ;).
this is really good, idnno why people are complaining because this is the best way to condition ur shins, when you hit your shin with force or kick something hard it fractures your shin in many places then the shin reattaches itself into a harder form
okay okay okay........ ummm im not sure if you guys are beginners. i actually have no sound right now. but im beginning ot think im not hitting my shin hard enough now.... i used a 5lb weight to the shin. right shin is okay.... let shin is getting there.
top of right shin feels almost nothing. i think i need to hit harder, i don't get the huge lumps unless i kick the bag with the left leg.
Yes, Dit Da Jow will do fine.. There is an actual Thai boxing liniment on the market called "namman muay" but I cant say I recommend it because it contains wintergreen oil which is toxic. If you can get your hands on "Plai oil" that's what they use allot in Thailand. And Ive tried tiger balm in the past its not really good for this sort of conditioning its more beneficial for muscle pain than anything.
@B4k3r00 Well i guess everyone has different training styles ha ha this is just one phase of my conditioning, but its not for everyone but has worked well for me. I do the things you mentioned as well. Thanks for watching.
Hey I just started Muay Thai myself and I was wondering if you condition your legs, do they stay as strong as they are forever? Or if you stop conditioning your legs after a few months they become week again? Thank you :)
@iFullBack they should stay mostly hard bc over time you you build up calcium deposits increasing your bone density, but the more you condition the less sensitivity you have along your shins. If you stop for a while your bones should still be harder than before but you may regain some tissue sensitivity back. Side note: if you just starting go much lighter than seen in this video ha ha good luck!
you're supposed to lightly tap your shin you fucking moron, not smash a stick into it until hematomas pop up. not that you even need to do that either. kick a bag, pads, block kicks from your sparring partner. all of these things also lend themselves to improving your technique, unlike this crap. do you actually spar or just sit at home playing with your stick?
@bizzle187 Thanks for your concern and being so concerned about my health and well being. The answer to your question is yes I do kick the bag, I do hit pads, I do block kicks, I do spar, and from time to time do rounds of harder conditioning like in the video. If you read any of the other comments I posted this is not how I train all the time, but it is just one part of it. I have had bigger hematomas from blocking kicks but part of this is breaking mental boundries and fear of pain as well.
@bizzle187 As for the name calling and what not, why dont you try asking next time, or reading what I have posted before calling me out. If you have a question on my training ask, but there is no need to pull high school drama. Your 28 dude.
@vonhelmet as a normal human myself i know how much that hurts those little japs that kick through bats and concrete are insane then again not normal bones
@vonhelmet ha ha yes I know it looks crazy but you kick with your shins and you block with them. So if you kick someone who has harder/more conditioned shins than you and they block it, chances are you will take more punishment! This is just one drill for conditioning. Hitting a hard bag works also, this just pin points the impact as it would be going shin to shin.
@ROMANPRICEY not to long. you can start by kicking a hard punching bag. as your shins get tougher you can kick it harder. then you can start lightly tapping your shins and rolling them with the stick. they will start becoming harder after a few month or so.
@tillman40 Your bones are like a sponge, each time they bruise them the pores heal back with more calcium making your bones more dense thus harder. This makes your kicks hit harder and the more you do it the shorter the recovery time. Two days after I filmed this I was kicking the pads again. They heal quick bc there is not much tissue there. Don't start this hard, go light and work up to it. Hope this helps!
@avandelay90 Its the same for your hands, but since there is so much other tissue and moving parts in your hand I would not hit them with sticks! ha ha Planks, then Push ups on your knuckles is a good start. Increase the hardness of the surface as you feel more comfortable. They will become harder, then you can start lightly punching harder surfaces. This is how people eventually break bricks with their hands. I hope this helps!

Tit, that's one of the stupidest ways to do it!
Why not try kicking moving cars instead?
Over time the shins will become harder and the nerve endings will die, resulting in less pain, but you shouldn't really be hitting them with wood.
Not unless you you want to create knots in your shins and suffer later on in life..
Lots of pad work, heavy bag and leg kick blocking drills.. Let it happen naturally, you can't rush the process..
Sorry, just my opinion over the many years I have been training!!!
