'' am auzit despre un om/ care rosteste atat de frumos cuvintele/ incat doar spunandu-le numele/ face femeile sa i se daruiasca.
daca sunt mut langa corpul tau/ pe cand tacerea ne-nfloreste ca un cancer pe buze/ e pentru ca aud un om urcand scarile, dregandu-si vocea-n fata usii noastre.'' (trad. m. cartarescu)
"I heard of a man who says words so beautifully that if only he speaks their name, women give themselves to him. If I am dumb beside your body while silence blossoms like tumors on our lips, it is because I hear a man climb the stairs and clear his throat outside our door."
Finally! I am so sick of hearing gossip about her! I have a whole painting for gossipmongers, and if you dis what you are watching by, you can sound like an idiot...
I'm positive she does NOT label herself that unless she's stating a point. & quite frankly people who consider other people "Satanists" are just doing it in advocacy of the idea that anything that goes against Monotheistic/Judeo-Christian beliefs must, by any illigitimate "reason," be sinful and disgusting. 6,000 yrs of Abraham is enough, Satan advocated Democracy, God the Monarchist, megalomaniac. Please use your brain and read something intelligent.
Actually, you need to re-interpret what I had written. If you read other interviews, she says the same about Jesus and God. A balance of each-- Equality amongst the two, a "Democracy" of beliefs. Why don't you read some John Milton or some Merlin. Also, "I don't consider Lucifer an evil force" it's because the idea of Lucifer is not evil, you twit. And no, I am neither an advocate of Satan or God, I know my philosophy, literature and symbolism-- You, on the other hand, do not.
Milton simply took the bible and reversed the perspective, I used "Paradise Lost" to emphasize the point (Which, might I point out, is a major theme in Milton's books.) that Satan initially advocated Democracy, where as god advocated/posed as a symbol of monarchy. Which, I find pretty relevant to what the other person had said about Tori being a "Satanist" and how really, it's "god" who is the definition of evil.
And I love the offensive juxtaposition of Cohen speaking about a man who's just so hot women throw themselves at him, with Tori singing about the deep, sad loneliness of a woman who has things to say but is afraid to, and the men who treat her badly. Really brilliant.
Compare this clip to the actual video. It shows the difference between a brilliant visual expression of the song, and shallow garbage. (Can you tell which is which?) There's nothing more facile than matching lyrics literally to images. A "dead body" "saved" by the garbage truck? Give me a break. I don't think you understand the song. (cont'd)
wow stargazer, this is very impressive, gorgeous clarity.I've been listening to tori since little earthquakes and this is a fabulous version and video. probably one of the most complete artits in music history.I had the good fortune to meet her on her very first trip to ireland,I think it was '92. she was lovely, kised my friend and i on the cheek. That was when her fans didn't scare her. oh well.
She has 9 allbums out, a whole bunch of EPs, official bootlegs, compilations and a hits catalogue. Do check her out if you haven't yet. I recommend her seventh album, Scarlet's Walk, because it's just so poetic =P
Wow! that was amazing. I am on a Leonard Cohen kick. Loved him since I first heard "Suzanne" So is Tori Amos her own songwriter/singer? I really have just now seen her for the first time. She seems so right for the time and for the song. Stargazer my hat's off to you for putting this video together.
Yeah, she is. This song is from her first CD, Little Earthquakes, she has about 7 albums out, I think. You should really check her out, she's pretty amazing. IMHO. ^_^
Hi, same here, I have been a Cohenite since I heard another boy scout sing Suzanne around our campfire in Germany in 1968. I have only heard Tori Amos once before when she sang on a Tribute album to Cohen. Others on the album were Sting, Peter Gabriel, Willie Nelson, Bono and many more. Stay in touch.
Did you add the L. Cohen poetry, or did Tori Amos release a version with the poetry preface? The version I had (on "Little Earthquakes") didn't have poetry at the start.
yes of course i did it... most of the pictures were taken from the official site of tori amos, and the remaining ones may be from pbasedotcom or treklensdotcom, I can't remember exactly...

hey flappp.... better check your info... why don't YOU read something, how about SPIN magazine, March of 1996 when Tori says:
"I wanted to marry Lucifer...I don't consider Lucifer an evil force...I feel his presence with his music. I feel like he comes and sits on my piano.
or how about Rolling Stones, June 25, 1998: "Yes, I have a mission, to expose the dark side of christianity"
WELL, IT SEEMS A LIBERAL IS ONCE AGAIN IGNORANTLY FIGHTING A BATTLE THAT DOEN'T EVEN WANT TO BE FOUGHT FOR

Re-read the "Pandemonium" sections. Satan never advocated democracy. The result of that "debate" was exactly as he wished it to be.
