Siepi singing in GERMAN?! I didn't have any idea such a thing existed. And, of course, it's absolutely wonderful. What I wouldn't give for a recording of him doing Sarastro, or Kaspar, or Don Pizarro...
@BorisGodunov There exists a full (but technically rather bad) recording of Parcival with Siepi singing Gurnemanz. from 1971 at the Wiener Staatsoper. Siepi naturally is woderful, but the background noise, for me, makes it difficult to enjoy.
Wonderful Beeke. I so enjoy the voice as an instrument in music. His tone was very powerful. Even though he balanced it within this piece.
You may be surprised at what friends find interesting. We are deeper than you may think. Life is more than dogwalks and silly random video. At least for me. lol with a grin on his face.
Hi Randy...thanks for the comment...I was not implying that friends here are unidimentional...just that this post is "out of line" with what you all are used from ME. :-)
Such a beautiful voice! I think Siepi is still alive, isn't he? I would have loved to have seen him in person, I hear he had quite a formidable stage presence.
Yes Marc, he is still alive...living near Atlanta with his family.
And...oh...how you are right about his stage presence. I also never saw him live but as a teen saw his Salzburg Don Giovanni under Furtwaengler as a film...
Luckily that historic production is now available as a fine CD...I think it is the thing to take to the proverbial deserted island.
Anyway...so glad that there is someone among my "friends" who appreciate this post :-)

marvellous. I know what I´m talking about because I´m a opera basssinger and german native speaker. Thanks for posting this rare recording. I´ts a real treasure. Youtube should be inveteted if it didn´t exist already, should´t it?

He is just too beautiful--inside and out, to include this singing. Did he ever sing a bad note?

Marc, sadly this statement is no longer true...Mr. Siepi passed away a week ago (July 5) in Atlanta. May he rest in peace.
