  • 사자가 그렇게 머리가 좋단 말인가?

    Lions are so intellingent?

  • odeio leões!! veja a leoa comendo seus próprios filhotes que cena degradante!!

  • We humans still beat lions in cruelty.

  • poor little thing must be agony

  • from the look of it, she has no choice but to eat her baby... :(

  • she grimaced before killing. did she smell some non lion smell her cub that is a reason for killing. some animals do just that. eg fire ants

  • @LadyLillianContessa She just had hungry..

  • its like she's crying while killing her cub :((( so sad...

  • @bamokhail

    Wow you are some freak...

Does Allah come and fuck you at night?

  • Comment removed

  • @bamokhail Firstly! Secoundly! Thirdly!...You adress people like you are some wise guy.

People like you who "Feel abused" quickly and claim the royalty of logic for themselves are dangerous fanatics in disguise who use mild words to argue that it is "their right" too abuse others.

Your comment on wishing that tiny newborns being killed shows that you are some freak...Whats logic about that?

Mohammed liked cats by the way and you abuse your God. He should flood your Country again.

  • lions carry an olfactory organ called vomeronasal

  • Wow, what a powerful scene. Mama did what she had to do, and did it extremely mercifully; in the interest of the family. Amazing compassion. Glad the little guy wasn't left behind to suffer. I just learned something new about lions. Thanks.

  • you can see the pain in her face, she doesnt want to do this at all, you can see it...

  • this is pretty sad, but it seems to me as if when she went to protect her young from the elephant, she realized this cub has a birth defect or some type of problem that is not accepted...sort of how when the runt of the group is always rejected. she realized the cub has no use of his legs, and therefore she has to depose of the offspring to take better care of her healthier cubs. thats usually how birds do it as well, cept they dont eat the body, they just kick it out of the nest...:/

  • Nature seems cruel!! The mother seemed very sad doing what had to be done. I have a question for the lion experts here... why do ALL lions scrunch up their faces when they have just killed or are about to kill a cub? Ive seen Males take over prides, kill all the cubs, and they get that same scrunched up face??..Anyone know what its about??

  • @flyinthebug35 Very insightful question. I await an answer also.

  • the cub wouldn't survive...it might be injured or whatever, so the mother ate it so no other animal did... the lioness knew what she was doing and she did the right thing..

  • this is sad. but it is the way of life. the lioness was too late in rescuing her 3rd cub. it got trampled by the elephant that was in the area. it must have broken the cub's back as it couldn't move its back legs. Instead of abandoning her cub to die painfully and be eaten by the scavengers like hyenas - she killed it herself and ate it, probably so that it wouldn't leave a scent to other predators.

  • Nature.... U Scarey.

  • UNDERSTAND THIS: lionesses are EXTRA protective of their cubs and will stop at nothing to protect them. The mother killed the cub because if not, something else would have. She ate the body because if not, it would be some other animals food. The cub would not have survived anyway. It was injured already. These instincts are prehistoric and can be traced all the way back to cynodont (dinosaur) species.

  • the elephant attacked that cub paralyzing its back legs

  • That's Zira for you.

  • LOOKS LIKE THE CUB'S BACK IS BROKEN OR THE ELEPHANT'S TUSK PENETRATED THE CUB'S BACK.

  • THAT BABY WAS PROBABLY INJURED SO BADLY WILL NOT LIVE, THEREFORE THE MOM ATE THE CUB.

  • THEY ARE SO CUTE.

  • :'''''''( poor little baby the lioness reminded me of zira

  • .... and the reason she ate it?? to erase its scent.

elephants have fab noses. and so do most african beasts. you dont want those things smashing and hunting you down. her instinct tells her to do it to help protect her and other cubs. She cant bury it, or burn it, or place it on a raft and push it down a river .... so she has to eat it.

  • @AndreyaPolo on top of that the nutrition she would gain from the body would go into her other cubs

    Poor momma and baba :'(

  • ... brought a tear to eye ..... anybody who works/has animals will feel pain of lionesses face when she tenderly brings freedom in the form of death to what is obviously a cub who cannot walk ....

  • a lioness will lick her cubs to rouse it in hopes of the cups to show a sign of being ok.. this cub was obviously sick or dying.. it may have been injured before... the lioness will eat the cubs to get back the nutrients she has lost tending to the cub.. when the cub does not show signs of reacting to the lick she kills it.. even though it seems ok to the human eye the cub was probably sick

  • i think there was something wrong with it,mother knows it better than any of us

  • Well... I thinks sometimes animals are just animals, I remember a female dog my uncle had when I was younger. That dumb bitch would literally eat ever single puppy she had. Not because she intuitively knew something was wrong with it, because every time she would eat them all. That dog was crazy and it does not shock me that other animals can act in the same way.

  • A tragic spin of maternal aggression is the euthanasia of young that the mother deems "crippled beyond recovery", where the mother kills young who she believes will never recover, probably to end their suffering.

This undoubtedly brings much suffering to the mother, as it does in humans. Users on here have already pointed out that the mother seems to be in a state of extreme anguish as she kills her cub, who appears to have been injured in some way prior (prompting the euthanasia).

  • hungry bitch

  • My grand father went that way.

  • @potrodsas his mom ate his head?

  • most mammals will kill their own young if they think their young will die anyways... its actually quite common.

  • A beautiful piece. Dramatic. There is a point where two instincts fight inside her: mother and predator. The killer takes over eventually.

  • We had livestock on the ranch as a child and mothers would often refuse an offspring. Nature has given them the ability to determine whether there is something physically wrong with the baby.

These are animals and don't have human considerations.

  • WHY THIS SERIES OF DOCUMENTARY ALL SO SAD, I JUZ SAW A BABY ELEPHANT KILLED. omg!

  • lioness closes her eyes like she is in pain

  • For all these people who are all "omfg dumb bitch lion" the cub was paralyzed. Its back legs weren't moving the whole time it was trying to walk. She knew it would slow the rest down and die eventually, so she killed it. She ate its body so no other animal would.

And you have to realize these are animals. Only the strong survive.

  • @brotherlady00 I thought it looked like the cub had either been stepped on or that something was wrong with it's back legs. It's sad that it happens, but definently nature's way.

  • the mother killed the lion cub because it was injured?

  • Lionesses only kill their cubs if it is necessary. There was probably something wrong with the cub already that the mother sensed. Would you rather have the mother kill it rather quickly or let it die slowly and (most likely) painfully? I love animals and I hate to see this kind of thing happening, but it's part of nature and the females know what's best for their offspring. They go by instinct and every primal fiber in their being, unlike the humans that are cruel and know it.

  • @LadyLillianContessa Appears the elephant was on the prowl hunting when it smelled lion. The mother lion moved the cubs away to prevent confrontation. That one cub was making too much noise and constantly trying to run about, so she killed it to prevent it from alerting the elephant to stomp out all her cubs. In the process, she ate it to gain back some nutrients.

  • If only all the people who're ready to do battle for the plight of the cub, would do a small fraction for their fellow humans who're dying daily for want of fresh water and basic food-grains. I'm afraid our duty is firstly to other humans, and only then to other animals.

  • What the hell is wrong with you idiots? Animals don't have the same types of emotions that humans have. Has PETA brainwashed you already???

Did it not ever cross your mind, even once, that the cub she killed and ate was the runt? The one that was probably not going to survive anyway?

It disgusts me to have to share the air I breathe with you uneducated filth.

  • sigh......... id so beat the crap out of that lion..... dumb bitch

  • YOU SICK FUCKING TIGER IF I WAS THE CAMERAMAN ID BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF THAT LION BITCH AND PISS ON HER FACE DAMN BITCH CANT TREAT HER CUBS LIKE THAT WHAT KIND OF SICK FUCK IS THIS LION i know he was injured and all BUT DON FUCKING KILL THE CUB DANG! POOR KITTY!

  • yes, horrible, brutal, cold

  • aww i dnt understand why did she kill it and not the other ones i mean seriously but why would u put this on youtube you ass i mean do u hte animals cause i sure as hell dnt u stupid asshole dnt put shit like this on youtube u sick minded fck

  • Upset

  • In this case the reason she killed the cub was not the elephants but the Cameraman..The idiot thought it is a great shot by being so close to lioness.

The lioness is threatened and angry. She kills the cub. That is why in zoos they do not disturb New mothers. Animals must be kept calm. Ask any zoo keeper.

When we find lion cubs we never touch them human scent triggers anger and threat . cubs get abandoned or killed %90 of the times .These are not house cats.

    Warden for 10 years..

  • yeap cub was injured. thats why she killed him.. some times house cat do the same.

  • Why put this on Youtube ... damn you!

  • THIS IS DISGUSTING!!! :( why are all of our videos about the death of baby animals??? After watching this video I am absolutely devistated!! He was trying to play with her then she killed him!!!!!!

  • aaawww this is so sad. The cub was injured so the lioness had to kill it's baby cub, or else predators would smell where they are.

  • You really need a heart of a Lion to that....!

  • yea right... that is nature.... you never know what could happen next.....

  • effin dark, man, I just wanted to see a lion take a few swipes at an elephant, good lord.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheSeven7hson the cub was injured, that's why the mother had to kill it

  • The Cub Got Injured And Couldnt Walk. Thats Why She Killed It.

  • Mothers thinks they are god.

  • What happened on the end???

  • it looks like she's chewing on their heads!!

  • That's nature. But it's horrid.

  • The puppy was probably injured by an elephant or other predator.

He could not survive and the mother cut short his life and fed his body so that other predators do not devour the body of the cub.

  • I heard somewhere that lioness will kill and then eat their cubs when they will die or are dying, to get rid of the smell of blood or carcass to prevent other preys from smelling and coming towards the area. So, to protect her living cubs, she disposed of or "threw away" the baby so that other predators won't smell it and be attracted to it. I felt that she slowly suffocated him, instead of bit into his head, which she could've done. Beautiful lioness mother...

  • If she ate one of the cubs to protect the others, why did she leave the others alone? She was hungry.

What evidence is there that animals feel and express emotion?

They have tear ducts which are only active during physical distress to the eye.

I have seen animals 'play'... but I do not think that indicates emotion.

I am open to your thoughts.

  • easiest way 2 get food

  • what the fuck !! yea today i think ill eat my own baby

  • that stupid lioness

  • how can she protect other cubs eating that one??? i really don't understand...

  • lion fact:

Male: Avg. Length: 9 ft. (2.7 meters), weight: 350-400 lbs. (157-180 Kg.).

    Height: 36 in. (90cm.)

Female: Avg. Length: 8 ft. (2.4 meters), weight: 250-300 lbs. (112.5-136 Kg.).

    Height: 30 in. (75 cm)

  • @nthhtnnth why do you tell us this??

  • @nthhtnnth why the fuck u tell us this?

  • It's well known mothers will typically kill and in many cases eat their young when they are weak or dying. This all comes back to our primary instinct, the instinct to survive. Any animal knows in a weak state the animal will never survive. Cannibalism is not typical lion behavior and normally if a Lioness cannot feed her young for lack of food she will just abandon them.

  • why did the lioness eat its own cub? Well i supose it was starving, but that poor little baby lion:(

  • 1 star for crappy annoying music

  • She made it as gentle as she could, suffocating it. You can see the pain in her eyes. Its was going to die and that puts the other 2 cubs in danger.

  • @wolfeyez so why can she just killing the cub instead of eating it?? im telling you animal are worthless creature they must be eliminated because poor no money aftricans dying lion attack. kill all the lions!!!!!!

  • if u look at the cub at the very end it's back legs was broken and couldn't walk so thats why she ate it...

  • She was protecting them,it's a natural instinct. The mother rather have herself kill her babies than the elephant...As you seen, the mother was upset.

  • @melbell5287 trueee

  • wow man wat a bitch cub thinks shes playing bitch just eat her .

  • @nawaz20 wow i'ts no wonder your a dumbass.

  • @nawaz20 You are so stupid, the cub is a newborn just looking at the eyes, because they just opened, and you are to say the cub is a b****.A mother will only kill or abandoned her offspring,if it's weak or injured or will die.The mother lioness or any other big cat never does this more than 5% of the time.Big cat mothers are very protective of their young, even if the are small cheetahs to large lions, tigers, jaguars, and leopard.

  • Why are the Innocent punished, why the sacrafice, why the pain, nothing is certain, only that some get called, and some get saved. She wont ever know the hardship, and the grief for those of us left behind.

  • i dont get it...why did she kill the cub for?.....too save the others from what?

  • @supernover8781 what I think is that her other cub is sick and almost dying so she ate it...

  • @angelic510 Well thats one senario...because that cub would of slowed them down :(

  • @supernover8781 I feel sorry for the lion cub :( almost cried T_T

  • @angelic510 Its also sad that the cub thinks shes playing :(

  • @angelic510

heartbreaking....poor cub thought its mom was just giving it some love, only to be suffocated and eaten...damn!

  • @supernover8781 lol I think to get milk...-.- and I think the mother needs meat to make milk for her cubs...(I guess)

  • my cat, Sylvester did the "funny face" when he saw our other cats dead body. (R.I.P. Chip *sniff*) he got hit by a car, broke his back, drug himself with his front legs, colapsed on our lawn and coughed up faomy; blood because of a punchured lung for 5 minutes before he died. (he was a kitten. like 8 monthes)we liquidated him the next morning because it was 11 at night. we put him in the car on a blanket for the night.*very sad drive*

  • One of teh saddest things iv seen....

Even though its an animal, you could see the pain and sadness on the mothers face when she had to make the choice to put the cub to sleep, especially when she closed her eyes, almost like she was crying a deep cry, that was just heart breaking...

  • that was actually really sad :(

you could see that the mother lion tryed cleaning it/licking it better... realised it wasnt gonna be able to make it and put it outta its misery, and you could see on the mothers face when it closed its eyes it wasnt an easy thing for her to do :(

  • A friend of mine who works at a Veterinary practice said she has seen many mother cats kill their own offspring if they instinctively know if something is seriously wrong with it whether it's from some sickness or a genetic anomaly.

This lioness knew it would be better to end it's life rather than invest her milk and efforts on something that wouldn't survive in the wild anyway.

Nature is what it is, all about survival and it holds no quarter.

  • This is so sad to watch. One can feel her pain. Lioneses are very loving mothers, and the choice she had to make to save other cubs was heartbreaking. You can see her grief. The smell of blood from injured cub would attract hyenas, who would attack the other two. There was no choice

  • Yes, she "spared" this sickly cub of a harsher way to die being torn apart by hyenas.

One can clearly see she didn't like to do what she felt she needed to do.

  • The "funny face" is called a flemming response.

Cats large and small crinkle their noses up and gape their mouths when they smell something very strong or very interesting - this helps the sensitive tissues of the upper palate conduct the scent.

The wounded cub was consumed so that the nursing mother could provide more nutrition for her remaining cubs.

The injured one would have drawn predators and most likely would've died anyway. Sad but effective animal parenting.

  • Ive even seen a rabbit do this with its young. Its just nature people.

  • She made a funny face because she was smelling the blood of the injured cub. Then she very gently put it out of it misery or a misery that it would have over time, since they have to be perfectly healthy in order to survive. Wolves do the same thing and that is eat a dead cub for more nutrients and to keep the den area clean. I don't think it is bad, it is just nature. She was a good mother that could only protect one cub at a time.

  • fuck that lion

  • HOLY S***!!!! dude that sucks... i just wish that the mother lion would realize- HOW FREAKIN STUPID AND DISTURBING THAT IS!!!

  • omfg please think before u speak

it was smart the cub wouldent survive any way

  • regardless it makes my heart heavy.

  • ok i understand she had to kill it but did she really have to eat it?? doesnt seem like she had any remorse when she was eating her own cub.

  • very hungry mommy..

..she had bad sex last night

  • Scientifically, alot of feline species will resort to eating their cubs as a means to take in nutrients if

    1. the cub itself has already been compromised

    2. if the mother is malnurished in the first place

    3. the cub is dead already.

It's a means for the mother to be stronger for a little bit for the other cub.

  • @TarrienBlack It's not funny.

  • Comment removed

  • she cleaned the kitty first, then killed it.

3:36-3:46, the mother closes her eyes, like crying. the pain on the mother's heart must be more than on the kitty's body.

  • @rax7 ???

Since when the hell do animals have human emotions?

  • @Emaniac69 Well since humans are animals, it's only logical that all animals have emotions.

Have to say that I'm not surprised a neanderthal like yourself hasn't realized that though. Good luck with your knuckle dragging lifestyle.

  • @rax7 i doubt it, she was either hungry or there was something wrong with it....likely the first or she wouldnt be eating it. The way big cats kill most of the time involves a soft bite to the neck.....she would not have eaten it if she felt bad.

  • 3:41 she goes. sry , momma has to do this

  • I hope I never go through what the lioness had to do to put her cub out of it's misery.

  • At 2:58 she looks as if she's in some sort of emotional agony, clearly in pain of what she feels she has to do.

  • 2 bad about the lions main and most used killing technic.... suffercating.. but the baby would of been out of alot more pain then what it would of been in.

  • It's pretty obviuous that the lioness did it out of necessity. Sad, but that is the way of the world!

  • The cub was paralyzed that's why its mom killed it !

  • The cub was sufferin, not food

  • iT LOOKS AS IF THE CUB HAD BEEN INJURED SOME HOW(MABIE THE ELEPHANT?) AND THE MOTHER KNEW IT AND SHE DID HER CUB IN BECAUSE OF THAT. ANIMALS FOR THE MOST PART KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND THAT IS WHY ITS CALLED NATURE! AND YES THEY DO AT TIMES EAT THERE OWN YOUNG.

  • oMG! A dingo ate her baby!

  • Its pretty common for Animals to kill Their own Young when in great Stress

Cats and Hamsters for es sample

  • May be she was very very hungry, you could see that as a bad behaivor, but may be that save the mother lioness and the rest of the cubs

  • Something was obviously wrong with the baby. This is nature people, stop crying! The cub looks paralyzed, how could he possibly survive? She was a GREAT mother. A lion mother. Animals aren't supposed to act like people.

  • u can clearly see that the baby cub had trouble trying to move and walk i think the mother klled her baby because she didnt want it to suffer or get eaten by another animal thiers always a reason, the cub was sick...

  • and i thought my mum was bad ..

  • Wow Que horrible, su propia madre, se lo comioooooooooooo

  • WTF she ate her baby omg it would be better die she neither her baby

  • That lion is not a good mother

  • Look closely, the cub, can not move it's back legs. from 2:51

  • i think that mother lion might had a problem in her mind

    rabies or something similar

  • thats just sad!!!!!!

  • The law of the jungle.

  • Its laws of forests. perhaps another mother lion cant kill her cub. but this mother prefered to kill. Its so bad..

  • The 1st I ever had to use my mute.

    DAMN!!!!!

  • the cub was wounded and was going to die if she didnt eat the cub the heynas would eat it and they will get use to eat lion cubs, even cats eat their babies if they were sick or injured , there is nothing wrong with it she just killed it cause it was in pain.this is nature!

  • Comment removed

  • you have no feeling, you're really a dumbass and an idiot, for saying that. Get educated.

  • This is not good. I wonder if you can get retarded lions. You cant eat your own kids no matter what. You can leave them to die or get eaten, but you cant do it yourself.

  • but once other animals like hayenas eat lion they will get use to the taste and the would take the scent of that lion as an advantage and try to quitely steal other cubs, coz lions have weak indetification memories :)_ she ate the baby for a reason a good reason

  • She ate that cub because it was sick..why she would eat one to protect the other two?!

  • At 2:59 it looks like the mother is crying, and struggling with what she knows she has to do.

  • that lion is an asshole

  • how can you say that to lions!? i know the lion ate her cub for a good reason!

  • guys i think there's missunderstanding, this mother iz full of love.....if u can see the elephant smashed the little lion, and it's can't move, so she killed it and eat it cuz she know it will not make it, like the cat.... the cat cat eat her babies if the danger comes and it's too late to save the kidz so it killes them.

  • poor mum lion. i think she killed her baby because it's back might of been broken and it would've died a much slower death if she would of kept it alive.

  • The cubs hind legs won't move, I guess it means the elephant stepped on it and broke it's back. She killed it to protect the other cubs from danger. Her eyes reveals a lot of pain. She didn't want to kill it... ;(

  • but why did she eat it?

  • Probably because she thought it would become a part of her once again. It might reduce her pain knowing it was not lost to some hungry predator and it would always be part of her. Perhaps it will lessen her sorrow, at least in some way...

  • I doubt that, seriously. Lions are not given to cannibalism. Also, let's not over think this with "easing her pain" and such, they don't think on the same wave length we do. She killed it because she knew it was lame, no doubt about it. Why she at it is a mystery. Even male lions killing rival cubs don't eat the cubs.

  • There are instances of cannibalism. There is a video of a leopard on a tree eating its prey and a few lioness arrive on the scene. One of the lionesses tries to wrest the leopard's food and fails; when she tries to get down, she falls and breaks her back. You see her dangling from the tree, and then another lioness arrives and starts eating the dead lioness.

  • There are ALWAYS exceptions. Perhaps that lioness was a loaner and starving. Maybe something wasn't quite clicking right in her brain, it happens. But cannibalism is not the norm with animals. For the most part, predators don't usually eat other predators. Again, there are exceptions, tigers, for instance, hunt and eat crocodiles, but it's simply not normal.

  • Of course. Every general rule or "norm" admits of exceptions. I wasn't exactly disagreeing with you; I was merely pointing out the exception, which I don't think invalidates what you were saying. Moreover, we need to keep in mind that we're basing our assumption on the available evidence (videos, pictures, reports, etc). Also, you say that cannibalism is not the norm with animals, and the same can be said of humans. Desperation, however, is known to drive even humans to eat other humans.

  • @sophia277 I remember this video, I think it was such a severe case of famine that people were seeing the starving animals do things typically out of their character.

  • @apharot Hyenas are known cannibals, not lions.

  • That's a lame answer, beside being a piece of wishful thinking. Do you mean to say that you choose to rationalize thus so you don't have to accept the reality of the natural world? It's sentimental.

  • Yes, as sentimental as it may seem, it's only logical to associate animal behaviour with human traits. Everyone do that either they are unaware of it or not. Besides, wishful thinking is what made this planet what it is, because people had the ability to communicate across cultural boundries. The animal kingdom is just across another border and some people have already crossed it. As a philosophical question one may ask: Do we understand eachother or is it just the primitive brains reasoning?

  • Logical to a point. The rest is based on analogies that seem to work based on what we observe. Analogies, too, break down. And I don't think wishful thinking made the world what it is, unless you mean something different by the word. Science was not based on wishful thinking and I can argue that it has had a big impact on the human world. You philosophical question I don't quite get, the disjunctive "or" seems misplaced and frames the matter as either/or.

  • The 500 character limit made me shorten the comment in the end, so that's why it looks strange. I didn't like your 'wishful thinking' phrasing of my interpretation of this video, and what I meant to say was actually dreams. People's ideas and dreams made them design buildings and figure out scientific solutions to problems. Here is the longer version of my question: Do we truly understand each other as human beings, or is that just the primitive brains reasoning as well?

  • One thing is to not like something I write, another is to not agree.-- Wishful thinking has a donotation and connotation that doesn't exactly coincide with your dream explanation. "I wish I had all the money in the world" or "I wish I was the president of the United States" etc. That, in my opinion, is wishful thinking. "She thought it would become a part of her once again." You did say 'probably', but I think resorting to that explanation amounts to deus ex machina.

  • Besides, that dreams and ideas have shaped our architecture and the rest of that--that's an entirely different topic. We could go into a lengthy discussion into that, but I am not sure this is the space for that. I used to read the works of Carl Jung and he has a lot to say about that.-- The first comment I replied to has a very subjective tone to the point that it doesn't explain anything yet it pretends to. It's one thing to want to express your feelings, another to ascertain causes.

  • It's my interpretation of what causes these events in this video, and there is nothing objective about it and never will be. Obviously. I don't see how you could think something like that to begin with. If you disagree with my interpretation of this video and what transpires then disagree, but don't make my comments into an episode of law and order or something.

In my opinion people and all beings have the ability to communicate with each other in one way or another. Dispute that if you want.

  • that dumb damn lion

  • i dont speak monkish
