Looks like a nice camera with good still and video quality. The time limit is due to the fact that the EU applies extra tax to Camcorders (a Camcorder is classed as anything which can shoot over 29m59s video). I am a little bit concerned about the time limit, but like DavideoDesign said, you are not gonna keep recording constantly for half an hour.
There is no problem with the 29.59 limit just press record again for another 29.59 and so on, this is an amazing camera for the money, if you was were to shoot a short film you would never have 29.59 shots anyhow you would be editing lots of small clips.
Don't get FZ35 if your outside europe as it shoots internally at 30fps and that wont tie up to well in PAL 25fps land. Also if you shoot in manual mode AND manual focus you can lower the shutter less than it says in the docs
It says its rechargable. Does it mean that you have to take out the battery and charge it, or can you charge the battery while its still in the camrea?
Hi Fabrice, Thank you. Yes the video recording is limited to 29m59s as I purchased this in UK. I understand this is due to video recording time restrictions on a still camera as per EU Law hence the model FZ 38 is made for Europe.... In India the same camera is sold as FZ 35 and there is no time limit for video recording and if you have a large capacity SD Card then you can record continuosly beyond 29m30s in a non EU model.
I really believe this camera could produce professional-like videos if you get a tripod and adjust the exposure. Image is very sharp, I could not see any difference with a good camcorder.
You are right. One of the primary reasons for me buying this camera is the HD Video capability apart from the 12 mp still photography. I have done some good research and the close competitor was canon 20 is but still the video quality of this one is better than the canon. With a tripod the output would have been better.. a camcorder with HD costs much higher and does not offer good still photography....
@onenanda I owned many camcorders in my life and I felt I had to have a camera to take good pictures too, I guess we have best of both worlds with this product. Thanks for your reply.
Hey,
what for features have you on? My quality is very more bad than your's :'(

cool!! i have a question about the battery.
It says its rechargable. Does it mean that you have to take out the battery and charge it, or can you charge the battery while its still in the camrea?
thanks!

Thanks.
Regarding the battery you have to charge it using a charging port (comes with the pack) outside the camera.
It is not possible to charge the battery while it is still in the camera :-( .......

So it's better to buy it outside europe as FZ35 model, but we may have some problems with customs. I think I will wait the next one FZ48/45? thxs!
fabrice42160 2 years ago
Yeah that s good option but I guess the same law will be applied to the next ones as well ...you need to wait for the law to be amended ahaha
