And just because "I" am not there to feel the pain, does not mean that it is not felt even more intensely by the remaining body (I cannot say "my" body, since the brain is dead). At the very least, something is being made to suffer, and possibly a purer, less tangled version of me is suffering. The TOE, or theory of everything, is an incredibly complex task to undertake if you're trying to provide proof. It would be something that MUST include consciousness into the equation. As I see it, consciousness seems to be, very simply, the way information is passed between "entities". From the sub-atomic realm all the way up to me typing this message. I fail after 35 years of study, I still fail to understand how someone who is unconscious can be aware at the same time, sounds like a contradiction to me, and there is no more of an unconscious state than the DEAD state. My Dog suddenly died today, i had him from a pup and he was only 7 years old. And he definately is not conscious anymore.

His logic is sound (to me at least), but it depends on which background or what concepts you are familiar with.

The idea is that everything is conscious, but in different ways. We accept that we are conscious, and perhaps animals etc. But it depends where you draw the line? It may be quite easy to accept that a single cell is conscious also, since we recognize certain patterns of behavior which we can relate to. But what's to say that an atom isn't conscious, or anything else for that matter?

There were no ideas that preceded Einstein's relativity - his ideas were revolutionary not derived.
