Hey, I really appreciate your videos. They are really inspiring and moving. I looked on the Peace Corps Website for Uganda Projects and didn't see the basketball court project to donate to. Do you know if teh project will be posted soon?
@soulheiress Thanks so much for watching them. The basketball court is complete now so no need for any new money. In Vlog #11 I am going to show a video of the completed court. Cheers from Uganda!
awesome videos! I have been praying about doing the peace corps when I graduate in May with my nursing degree. Got on youtube to search some videos of people's experiences. Yours got me so excited. After watching all your videos, I noticed that your username is utlnghrn... suddenly made your videos 10x better ;) I'm a fellow longhorn! Do you work closely with any nurses in the peace corp? Could you provide one of their contacts to me if possible? I have lots of questions! Thanks, Amber.
@ashipp89 Hi Amber. Hook em horns! My mom, dad, bro and sister went there. I went to Virginia Tech though... I hope you still like my videos... haha. email me and I will send you the email address of one of the volunteers who is a nurse here in Uganda. john.emami at gmail.com . Cheers from Uganda!
Cool video! It's refreshing to watch a video set in an African country where the people are portrayed with dignity and one can see the beautiful green countryside. I'm from Kenya and cannot count how many times strangers ask me about the heat and the desert out there...I hope to visit Uganda! I like the idea of the entrepreneurship club and having the kids run it.
Hey there, loving your proactive approach to improving lives in Uganda on an individual level. Any progress updates on the PC grant for concrete for the basketball courts?? All the best to you!
Thank you for your reply, John. Most helpful. Let me ask you one more question; well two actually: What was that mystery malady you suffered if it wasn't malaria? Looks like you're over it, thank goodness. But also, did you have a business background pre-PC, or did you wing it with the barbershop idea? Highly creative, I could see you rising to any occasion just using your resourcefulness.
@weimarlove they were not sure what it was. the nurse still thinks it could have been malaria but was not 100 percent. I did have a business background but a lot of people have done similar projects and did not have one. thanks for the kind words and have a good one!!!
John, you're good! Very good. I'm an older Peace Corps candidate who came across your vlogs, and I want to commend your good work, but also your video logs. Very helpful for us back home to see your experience. It gives me joy to see the lives you are touching, and seemingly effortlessly - which is, by the way, how your delivery comes across. You've got a future in media production, me thinks. What software are you using to edit your footage? What camera? - so I can do similar things when I go.
@weimarlove Hi there. Thanks for watching and also thanks for appreciating my work. I feel fortunate because I truly like it here a lot. I use iMovie software on my Macbook Pro and use the Flip Video Camera that Cisco used to sell but discontinued this year for some reason. Wish you the best and good luck with everything!!
Very nicely done, John. Thanks. I especially liked: 1) The way two little guys each illustrate the .5 in 6.5 and 3.5. 2) The courage of the entrepreneurs' first customer. Would YOU want to be a barber's first customer? 3) Your grant appeal. That's some fine lobbying. Good luck. 4) Your idea for the end credits to your film is really, really cool. Take good care of yourself.
You are such an inspiration to me, John! Thank you for doing great work for the world. I hope one day I can do something like this as well.
I wish you all the best! Please keep making videos! :)
