This is soo much faster than the CBDA requirement O____o but this man is magnificent! I will always appreciate the amazing gift so few people are given to be able to play such beautiful music <3 <3
@getzfan1 there's a good chance (but this is just a guess) that he uses something along the lines of Vandoren 5RV Lyre Bb clarinet mouthpiece, i just recently bought one and it's fairly new to the vandoren series-- it's know for control in all registers for flexibility and open sound. Just seems like something that would make this music sounds so rich (but that could just be his phenomonal talent ^_^ )
well matejpatek, you really show your utter ignorance. How can you justify "you don't like him as a person", have you met him? Have you made music with him? I think the answer is no. I suggest you check your facts before you write something so empty as this. You Mr Mateipatek are one empty vessel. Roll on Michael Collins you are so amazing!!!!
@frclarinette When I listened to his interpretation I liked that he was much more animated. But his tone falls short of Michael Collins. Personally I think the tone should be under control at all times and not be "jazzy" in this sonata.
@xHuntedGunzPCGx I mean I must bow to him as a musician (though I don't quite like some moments, it would be weird if I loved it to the last detail, wouldn't it?) but don't like him as a person. To me he seems way too much like an actor - and this kind of shown self-confidence is always distracting and can do harm to a very good performance. That's it.
Nice performance, but the tonguing wth the fast sixteenths in the beginning is sloppy and some of the notes are clipped too short. Open your ears people. Gorgeous tone though.
by far the best version ive found, the effortless sound on the higher notes, and the tempo was spot on. i think the pianist was as amzing as the clarinetist, he accompanied rather than just playing with
@MrMojojojo1995 I just went to a concert on sunday at Hofstra University and watched Stanley Drucker perform this. I wish I could have recorded it. Now that was a performance!
ya i play the clarinet too, its just fun to be able to look up to people and see how amazing they are. Fil what kinda clarinet mouthpiece reed and all that stuff do you have? Just curious
How about Martin Fröst. Went to a concert with him here in Iceland and our most talented classical musician 25 year pianist a student in Juliard had busy(but in control) time following his insane tempos in Debussy,Francaix and Poulenc . I would have guessed that the tempo of the final movement of Poulenc to be somewhere around 180-190.
this is quite simply fantastic!

This is highly spirited and so a delight to here. I recall a motif or two that Poulenc used in other works.

I read the prior comment by mrclean and I think the notes are clipped short because on the sheet music there it is marked "marcato" ....

one thing ive noticed in collins playing is that he doesnt use enough colour between the dynamic ranges. that is the only criticism i have.

The tempo for this piece is 140 bpm, but it has a lot of sixteenths so it sounds faster.

He's actually taking it about 160 or so. It's actually pretty common for soloists to take it that fast.
