um, if i'm not mistaken, that noise you're trying to make by flicking the slide quickly over the strings, is actually played on a violin or viola, and it's just John Cale reaching the end of his stroke and quickly bringing the bow back, so that the drone can continue... it's not actually played on guitar, i don't think...

I got an acoustic in December and I'm still learning (though very slowly) and if I ever get good at it, I'm gonna try to buy an electric. I'll try to get good at that and then finally I want to learn this song.
@Yarrrgh : Thank you a lot! As the comment of spillandambiance it's a DADADD tuning with a fuzz pedal and a very shitty guitar(with the string raise of the neck for a good play with the bottleneck). I don't know if the velvets use this tuning but they sounds greats. (sorry for my bad english :) )
