I'll say this for the car, it's nice looking. Where the hell did they come up with a name like Merkur? I would've preferred Mercury XR4ti or Ford Sierra, like its European counterpart.
I almost had a white one for my first car, went to the dealership, told him to hold it, would go to the bank, got the money, showed up next day and the fucking asshole sold it...
If you have your life set up where you can drive from point a to point b on properly paved roads, with no holes or road dust, then your automobile will last a long time. It also helps if there is no winter road salt, or it is possible to always get the auto washed and waxed right after the exposure to winter road salt. Get new spark plugs and a new fuel filter each year to keep the engine running right.
LoL! Wow, those are insanely ugly cars with a very good history. I've read somewhere they call those things scorpios in europe and they used to use them as police cars. These things were like the mitsu lancers of today. If I were you I would take the spoilers off and and make it more of a sleeper even though thats what it is already. Done any mods?
tons of them. they're posted on the video info. i thought about putting the other spoiler on it, but i like the older uglier kind. i'm a poor sap for ugly cars. the renault turbo is my next project someday.
@MorePOwerplz well in the uk this cars where called the ford sierra , they came in 1.6 ,1.8,2.0, or 2.9 , there where some that where taken from factory and turbocharged i.e xr4x4 twin turbo , as for the name "scorpio" thats another car all together here in the UK its the same as the ford granada which holds some of the same engine veriants to the sierra , i,e 2.0 , the rare 2.4 , the more common 2.8 or 2.9 , there was afew turbocharged and afew 4 wheel drive aswell as i have a scorpio 4x4
@MorePOwerplz These are actually called the Ford Sierra in Europe. There was also a Cosworth modified variant, the Sierra RS Cosworth. These cars were extremely competitive, if not dominant, as race cars in touring car series including BTCC. Cars that are extremely underrated in the U.S. Thereis a Merkur Scorpio, which is what I believe you are talking about.
Hmm... not a fan of the taillights/rims/tires stick out, and the interior I can only assume is to protect or cover up the upholstery? Looks like a work in progress =)
I love these cars cuz barely anyone knows about em. My best friend had one forever and he loved it even tho it kept breaking hehe. He still has it but it wont run cuz he kept snapping clutch cables lol. He even tried to have one custom made higher strenght lol!
the cur for snaping merkur cables is to buy the svo stang cable and with very light modifycation make it work its is a lot heaver gauge and i havent broke mine yet with 3 yrs of auto crosing and light road racing
yea you have to shav down the rubber bezzle that goes in to the fire wall of the car and rerout the cable a little differently but it is like 2 gauges thicker than the standered cable
lol. thats cool. i always wanted one ever since i was 16-17 when they were new. i found mine by accident & bought it for $750. 4yrs later rebuilt it. got it for a steal. hope you find one in decent shape if you ever look for one again.
thats why i like em so much. people either like them or freakin hate them, one says what the hell is that its ugly & other says wow awesome. its a love hate relationship. you just had lemons. all manafacturer has lemons. you're just attracted to lemons. no problems here. goota love em or hate em. thanks for the comment:-) :-p
if you had two i figured you learned your the lessont he first time. see even you have the love hate relationship. nothing wrong with that preppydetroit.
these were some of the worst cars ever produced.

I miss my xr4ti so much. It was a fun car to drive when it ran right. I just didn't have the time or money to keep up with it.

keeping the merk up and running .. i like that lol
TPena92 3 years ago
its only a ford sierra
wahgwaan87 3 years ago
No, there is many diffrences between ford sierra and Mercur xr4ti. Main is, that sierra never had 2.3 liter turbo engine. Except diesel :)
gobersiak 3 years ago
The only way any auto can still be running after 20 years is if it has been barely used or has been totally rebuilt.
AndrewNeilFalconer 3 years ago
Or if it were properly maintained. You'd be surprised at some cars that are still running perfectly after many years with proper maintenance.
MegaTronn 3 years ago
Very True, Very True!
My brother has a 68 rs/ss, 79 z28 and both are still fine running vehicles.
He doesn't mistreat them, doesn't run them to the ground.
I'm in love with the '68!

Merkur was a subsidiary of Ford, they wanted a German sounding marque, but you see where it is now.

Scorpio is the other car Merkur built and in Europe it's the Granada or Granada Scorpio. It's a bigger car. This car in Europe is the Sierra.
