Considering the datsun is a purpose built rally car with a later model twin cam 2lt motor and probably locked or aftermarket lsd diff etc. Try comparing a stock Datsun 510 with an open diff and its stock 96hp/108hp at the fly 1600cc motor and see the difference of 40years of automotive progress then!

Cool vid. Was thrilled to be interwebbing around and find a brand new car review including a 510! The juke is obviously the beneficiary of 4 decades of technological advances...but the 510 still looks like more fun, and of course it sounds way, way better. Of course I'm biased.

That said as ugly as it is the Juke looks like a solid ride as well. Check my channel for some 510 dirt road action, Oregon Wheat Country is closest to rally conditions.

I'm really annoyed with people that say cars with different designs are just ugly. It's like if it doesn't look like a plain and simple box, it is ugly. I personally think this is one of the best designed cars recently released because a good design is something that is interesting, makes you stare at it, and doesn't look like a copy of everything else. That to me shows that nissan is confident in it's product's. And "Everyone knows it's ugly 0:25"? They are sold out everywhere. :)

I don't know why people constantly knock the juke. Sure its ugly, but look at the bright side at least Nissan is at least attempting to produce exciting vehicles unlike Toyota or Honda. Torque vectoring AWD, direct injected turbo engine in a small SUV...that's pretty damn cool.

Seeing the 510, I'm reminded of something is very wrong with US racing. Too much emphasis on remembering old cars and not on building/using new ones to race. Modern versions of the 510, Escort Mk1 and Mk2, etc. would be killer cars today. Not a sports car like the new GT-86/FR-S, but a hot cheap compacts that are also normal cars, that normal people would buy, justifying building them with little fuss, thus fans and racers could get them NEW and go nuts.

I think it's great that a household mid-sized car with standard tires and all luxuries is only 0.7sec slower than a purpose build rally car.

It really shows how mutch faster cars have become a standard car almost equals the rally car, and on gravel!!
