yeah, i heard from my thai friend's grandfather that a compiled and selected style of muay boran was taught in the royal thai military or something long ago. it is a martial art for killing people, whereas muay thai is a sport.

@geebanhunter yea its really quite amazing, my cousin went to thailand he went to Rawai Muay Thai and did amazing for himself he then wanted to do Muay Boran as well so he did it on quiet day at the gym he was taught by Kru Ling Lom himself :)

My favourite move is when someone body kicks you then grab there leg and elbow them in the thigh awesome stuff and the one where you jump on the oppenents thighs and bring double elbows down on their head superb !!!! gotta learn that Muay Boran

@HomunculusProject Yes they have a lot, but the aim was to bring the opponent down and kill him immidiatly with or without weappons

@Tadeuszsie Of course. My point was just, that high kicks in general can be pretty risky. Therefore it would be only natural for a complete system to have a good amount of ground fighting as well.

Always happy to see good and sturdy martial arts.

Ah, one more thing. Wasn't muay boran created especially against weapons? That would explain the wide variety of kicks and very close up techniques.

@HomunculusProject no vids im afraid but I have a page on face book kings of the ring muay thai school and as 209sub0 stated it is very much aimed at dislodging joints to the point of fracture .ppl that have a sound Muay Boran back ground tend to make a better Muay Thai fighter. I have only shown my skills in Muay Boran to one of my students as to me its a religion and many ppl now are jumping on the bandwagon ,but trust me dont be fooled by these ppl do ur homework 1st ....

@HomunculusProject Muay boran has a lot of arm and leg breaks that can be performed on a ground opponent while you yourself are still standing, or on a single knee or half crouch (similar to Horse Stance). Many thai styles are also unusual for their use of front rolls starting and ending in a standing position, but with a sweep in between. Also, instead of going to mount and choke, many chokes are performed by striking the knee into the throat or solar plexus.
