You have to be very selective in what you watch, or just turn it off completely.

If I am on the internet at the same time the TV is on and I turn TV off, I find my concentration has increased by about 50%. I 'forget' to keep the house clean, and eat healthy food. I am aware of it's corrosive effect, especially on the language that people use, the recent word being "switched" as in I switch when I have a drink/drug etc to a psycho. I am a terrible Television addict, once I turn it on I am hooked, to the extent that I am not aware of my surroundings, hunger etc. Most of all I am away from myself and other people, so I am in an isolated state, and yes sometimes I do have feelings while watching the crap that is on TV. I know it is crap but still I watch it and even pay for a license to the BBC to watch it. The TV's that you speak of flickered for a reason. They flickered because the picture was interlaced. TV's in 2003 used Standard Definition with a 480i interlaced picture. Modern TV's today use progressive scan, so you don't see a flicker, as the picture is refreshed in one go, rather than with interlaced where the horizontal lines are refreshed odd lines first and then even, hence the flicker.

Watching a flickering fire can have the same effect on a person. This is complete rubbish.

interesting. as an electronic technician i have been aware of all the emissions from televisions, (specially the gamma radiation from the old style tvs)...i never thought about the "flicker rate" (refresh rate) twice every second a new picture is flashed on the screen...or half of the last image if "interlaced". this could, i believe, be a harmonic of the slightly higher frequency that the human brain operates with. curious. i give this video 5 stars!
