  • He does use beauty-so-clean now. It prevents discolouration that rubbing alcohol/99%alcohol tend to do. But they are still great for disinfecting. He has a more recent video on this as well.

  • Would you still recommend this over beauty so clean? I'm contemplating buying it for my personal stash as I don't use them often I'm afraid they'll grow stuff before I get to use them. Also do you still clean your brushes with alcohol? Thanks in advance!!

  • Ive been looking for a vid like this !!!

  • OMG! I never knew you could disinfect your make up or SHOULD for that matter. Brushes I knew about I clean them with soap and water. If you have a better way please tell me. But I did not know about the disinfecting of your make up. THANKS!!!

  • 02:08 I want you to finish on me...

  • can this be done pencile eye liner and what about mascara?

  • @mschiffon Pencil eyeliner is sharpened,so the tip that touched the eye is gone anyways. If you want to use mascara on others in a sanitary way you need a tube of mascara that has NEVER been used on anyone(the brush), and you need to use disposable mascara wands to apply it, and do NOT double dip the wand or else you might as well be using the brush. If it is for personal use, there is no need to disinfect mascara as they need to be tossed out about every 3 months. Hope it helps!

  • @speed0spank no, I only use the makeup for me and every now and then my sister. My eye liner is the kind you twist. I'm not sure if it can be sharpen. Does it have to be disinfected if i also use that on me only.

  • thank u wayne i was wondering how to disinfect my makeup without ruining it

  • I am ashamed to say i never thought of 'cleaning' my personal eyeshadows... i just whipped out all of them and gave them a good spritz with some alcohol. Thanks so much for this!

  • do you dilute the alcohol??

  • this is great! and i love your shirt!!!

  • Kryolan?

  • thank you!

  • Thats BRILLIANT!!! This was very helpful.

  • Thank you, you are wonderful. Dr. Oz says you can also freeze your mascara and cream make up (at least every 3 weeks) to kill bacteria, and suggests scraping off a top layer of your powder make up every month for those that don't want to spray. You can do a google search on his article. A huge recommendation from Oz....clean the bottom of your purse, wallet etc with a spray alcohol as thats where us gals pick up lots of gross stuff....Thanks for this video, now I won't toss things so fast

  • Thanks a lot! This is sooo helpful!

  • hw do u disinfect pigments.can i just spray the mac pigment in the same fashion ?

  • What kind of palette are you using? It looks like just a hinged tin. I haven't seen any palettes like that.

  • so helpful, i love it.

  • Bought myself a spray bottle + surgical spirit today. Tried it and make up is still fine after spraying so thanku! Feel better knowing irs clean. Not sure if you can use it on brushes after cleanin tho?

  • @moveslikejagger24 I use it on my synthetic brushes after deep cleaning or cleansing(mac brush cleanser) actually seems to remove more pigment that got left behind if there was any?

I'd think on animal hair brushes it would dry the bristles out making them brittle?

  • Such a good informative video....thank u so so much

  • i've been looking for rubbing alcohol for ages, not knowing it has a different name here in the uk, so thanks so much!

  • could you use methylated spirits?

  • I love how you explain things in the simplest ways without being wordy.

  • awesome tips. i just recently got over a horrible eye infection due to makeup products not being disinfected. love your videos and this one especially. its nice to know that some people are sanitary. xD kudos, sir.

  • THANK YOU!! You're right, there aren't many videos on here that have to do with cleaning/disinfecting ones make-up. So thanks for posting this. :)

  • Could this work on mineralized blushes as well?

  • I randomly bought a bottle of this stuff a couple of weeks ago!! I will immediately put it to good use!!

  • ... what did he say in the end? does it give you headaches? does it sting? i couldnt hear him very well.. it sounded like he said doesn't.. then he was like it gives me massive headaches

  • @karmieboo I think he said it stinks and gives him a headache. so do it in a well ventilated area.

  • @puppyzoe Oh, that makes sense!!! Thanks!!!

  • This is really helpful, thanks

  • thats brilliant!! ya surgical spirits are used routinely in medicine and veterinary to prepare the skin for procedure.

  • This video is really helpful !

  • you are so handsome:)

  • What about cream products? It seems like this would make them dry out quicker?

  • Additionally, I hope you'll make a video on nose contouring. I cannot find a tutorial appropriate for my structure. My nose isn't large. It's the bones starting at either side of the top ridge of the nose just below the eyes that connect to the cheekbones. Mine over-exaggerates the width from front-view & almost breaks my nose into segments. If that makes sense. = ( darkening the sides/ highlighting middle V/V isn't suitable for me it just draw attention to close-set large eyes. Tips, PLEASE!

  • I frequently sift through tutorials to try to find a superior method of applying makeup, disinfecting bushes/keeping bristles comapct etc. I SELDOM feel inclined to leave a comment on the video (although i appreciate their making it regardless). This was just so brilliant!! I hope you continue to do these; you're very eloquent & easy to listen to as well as coherent. Your skin is so dewy and glowing btw.

  • THANK YOU WAYNE!!! i love it!!

  • Hi wayne, can you please do an updated version on cleaning makeup brushes and kit

    Thanks amanda

  • can i use 70 % alcohol?

  • I came across your videos by accident. I'm so glad I did. AWESOME VID on cleaning/disinfecting ones makeup kits. Yours was the first Video on this. You are a Fab ARTIST too, i've learn alot from your video. How should I clean/disinfect my brushes? Also please do a video on eye shadows colors that go well on dark skin. , and a tutorial on eyeshadow application for small eyes and the best product line to use for dark skin.

  • Great vid. Could you pls give me the excact name of the product you used and name a place/store where I can get it? Thank you.

  • @zonko82 ...it's rubbing alcohol. You get it from any drugstore. It is the cheaper option. The other product is beauty so clean and you can google beauty so clean and order it from their website.

  • oh its soo simple !! am going to look and see if u have one about brushes, I hope you do xx

  • oh dear. Do u know whay I did with my conjunctivitis? I through away my pencils and blacktrack, liquid eyeliner, and i scratch the first lay of eyeshadows that i used in those days and then burn them with a light. And scratch away my lemonade from benefit, and clean my brushes with alcool, the red one, and then i chance my 2 towels for face and brushes. So I scratch the eyeshadows was a waste, if I saw this before.... Anyway, once I used to clean brushes with shampoo or liquid soap, then on yt..

  • @KittySLifeStyle I've so, that people clean them brushes with solid soap, and was very nice to do it. But then the oculist told me that solid soap it is a good way that germs gonna stay!!!! Oh dear

  • Im so doing this! Love your videos!

  • This was super helpful thank you.

  • Thank you! :) I'm so happy I came across your channel, I'm about to go into school to become a make-up artist and your videos are lovely!

  • thanks for another helpful tip... i hope i could find that 90% alcohol as ive only seen 70% so far

  • @kindasexyshy Crazy but 70% alcohol is better at disinfection than 90% alcohol. Why? Because at 90% volume the alcohol evaporates too fast to do any serious disinfecting. Doctors use 70% for this reason. So don’t worry your good with 70% alcohol.

  • @HERstoryFIRST wouldnt matter if its isoprophyll or ethyl ?

  • This is such a helpful video! Thanks so much.

  • Thank you that has just saved me a packet! :-)

  • Extremely informative. I saw a local news report that says that most make up have preservatives in them to fight bacteria and such. Do you think that preservatives alone are effective enough?

  • Thank you so much. I needed that tip.

  • Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

  • this video is just thank you <33

  • Wow that is so simple, yet so many dont do it!

  • Thanks for this wonderful video.

  • Could you just put a drop or two into a liquid foundation for the same effect?

  • Thank you so much for making this video! A few months back i went out on a search for it and bought 'rubbing alcohol', no ingredients stated but it said contains alcohol... got home and mixed it in with my brand new cracked mac shadow and it now has a awful smell and has become chalky. Rubbing my finger in the eyeshadow dries out my finger! I have since gave up but today i saw a little bottle of surgical spirit, contains 96% alcohol but wanted to look it up before testing again :) It works!

  • At lunch my daughter and I were talking about makeup,as women do, and I was telling her about this vid, and she asked me a question; do you disinfect your mascara too or throw it awav?

  • THANK. YOU. SO. MUCH.

ive been looking for this video for a VERY long time.

  • took me forever to find a video like this on youtube but thank you!!!

  • In your vid you said Surgical Spirit then you said Metholated Spirit? That cleans paint brushes doesn't it. You didn't mean Metholated did you?

  • thanks for telling us gurls on what to do with are make up. i had use some of my make up on some of my friends an didnt think about GERMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • adorable top mate!

  • how about liquid makeup?

  • what about gel liners?

  • @LittleMissMuppetX13 scooping out with a spatula if you are a professional. or just spray for home use.

  • Oh my goodness thank you so much for making this video. I was literally about to buy beauty so clean but then I came across this! I love you forever! haha *Just Subscribed*! <3

  • i love you. (period) ! <3

  • Exactly what I was looking for!! Thanks Wayne!!! Off to Boots tomorrow!!!

  • Hello...I learned this disinfecting technique about 18 years ago and have been using alcohol on all my makeup, blushes, eye shadows since. Thank you for sharing for all.

  • Very informative.

  • I've been searching books, magazines, and videos for a way to sanitize eyeshadows for so long, but this is the first one I've found. Thank you so, so much!

  • Thank you so much for this video. I've been looking for that kind of information for a long long time now. Needless to say, I subscribed to you right away. :)

  • I have used this method for years. I also clean my brushes in between clients with 99% alcohol so the brushes dry quickly. People think this dries out the brushes but my brushes are in perfect condition. I know they are clean this way and it put clients at ease when they smell the alcohol.

  • good tips...thx for the info.

  • Great video! I was actually thinking of getting a make disinfectant and a small bottle cost like 8 or 12 dollars but your idea is so much better

  • With all due respect to you and all your expertise, I have you correct you on something. Even though it is a good idea to disinfect your makeup regularly, using the same makeup again after a cold sore or a virus will not cause you to get sick again. Its a virus, not a bacteria, they are not contagious ,and once you've recovered from it, you cant get it again. Its mainly the bacteria infections you want to be super careful about.

  • @pinapplemangobananna With all due respect cold sores can be transmitted by contact with the infected area. So if you share a lipstick, lip balm, lip gloss, drinking glass, etc you can catch it from someone else. My little brother has a hard time with cold sores and was advised by the doctor to never share any lip products and never share a drinking glass during an outbreak. The concern for a MUA is you could transmit the virus from one person to another via a dirty lipstick.

  • When you went to Boots to buy this did they quiz you on why you wanted it? I really want to disinfect my makeup xx

  • I just got my 91% alcohol and did this.. Worked like a charm.. I was especially happy cause dropped an eyeshadow palette upside down on a nasty dirty floor, otherwise I would have trashed it, but sprayed it and it swatches fine!

  • thank you so much for this video! brilliant!

  • Awesome! I mean it!! HAHA!! I am absolutely delighted to have this information!

You are a prince among makeup artists, and good looking, as well *!*

Thanks for all 101 vids and keep them coming! (*_~)

  • You are very beautiful. :)

  • Ive been doing this for 4 years... doesnt ruin your makeup

  • ive been doing this for the last 4 years..... doesn't ruin your makeup

  • I have heard that spraying alcohol on your makeup is ok and then I have heard its not. but from what I have seen it doesn't damage my makeup at all. great video. your the bomb;)

  • Great tip, thank you!

  • thx

  • So glad to find your video, so I don't have to throw away my old makeup. That makeup pallette is gorgeous, who makes it? Would those colors be good for blondes with yellow undertones?

  • I believe here in the US the highest concentration of alcohol is 70%. Will that work or will it damage the makeup?

  • @ScarlettRuby82 thanks for that question because i live in california and the highest is 70, ive looked everywhere!

  • Hey Candy - I just called WalGreen's and they have 91%, according to the pharmacist. Not expensive, either. If you don't have one nearby, it would not be unreasonable to have it shipped.

  • i really don't think there's any way to disinfect things like mascara or tubed lipgloss... those come with wands and you usually double or triple dip.

  • Thank you for showing this. Alcohol is how we disinfect our hands at the hospital. It's the drying process that kills the bacteria.

  • this is great information!!!!!!!!!!

  • omg! That;s so handy!

I thought you were going to go into some long ass video!

    But thats so easy!

    Thanks dude! xx

  • Thank you for this info...I clean my brushes but I always worry about the bacteria in the makeup because I have oily skin...

  • Great video, thanks for sharing out your tips and trix =)

  • you're the best

  • how do you disinfect lipgloss, mascara,or things in tubes?

  • Bravo !This is so crucial for any makeup artist or cosmetic junkie to know im sending a link to everyone i know , Rock on hun

  • Thank you so much for posting this.

  • From a hygeine freak, here's a few tips that trump spray alcohols which only kill about 98% of bacteria. High level ultraviolet wands, they're about $30 off eBay tops, and kill 99.99% of germs, followers by a good dose of sunlight. Sunlight however will make algae and some fungii bloom; so in the case of something that may be infected with that, ensure you have no metal parts in the container and bung it in the microwave oven for 15 or so seconds. Vastly superior to alcohol! <3

  • I hope all makeup artists do this!!

  • On the Boots website it mentions prescription required for surgical spirit and iso, but I went to Boots today asked at the checkout, the lady went and got it for me off the shelf was not behind the counter.

  • Can you still buy surgical spirit over the counter here in the UK? Not sure if drug stores here still sell it

  • THANK YOU!

  • Thank you so much. I'm starting my own makeup business and was wondering how to keep it clean. That was clear, simple and practical. Thanks again

  • Can you sanitize make up like pressed powder?

  • thnaks this is super helpful

  • I never knew that you can disinfect make up... Thanks a lot for the video. Too bad that where i live, in Norway, it's become illegal to sell high percentage alcohol.

  • @CrunkKasia Even the isopropyl alcohol used for this? because it can only be used for disinfecting, cleaning or something like it.

  • Wow Thank you for this. Finally someone who is responsible and will to share their tips about this sort of thing.

  • I depot my palettes to clean the shadow fallout out, hate when you tubers present filthy dusty makeup palettes. Ewwww NASTY!

  • When you disinfect your palettes, i'm guessing the alcohol stays in the makeup....so does that have an effect on clients skin??

  • @amybaby18 the idea of using alcohol is that it evaporates very quickly and it does not stay in your makeup, and doesn't ruin it either that's why he did swatches at the end :) I use alcohol to clean my makeup and in seconds everything's dry again. Another thing, if the alcohol somehow managed to stay in the product, nothing happens cause rubbing alcohol it's meant to be used on people's skin, for scratches etc. hope it helps!

  • @cinnamonbed great help, thanks! ('',)

  • @cinnamonbed Does the alcohol damage the packaging in anyway?

  • @amybaby18

Those alcohol are meant for surgical purposes too. Thus it's safe.

  • Do you think it is possible to use the spray hand sanitizers to clean them make up as well?

  • i was wondering if alcohol would hurt my make up now i know it doesn't.. thanks cheaper than the sanitizer i was using

  • damn it i wish i saw this before i went to buy beauty so clean...but good thing i got the small version >=D

    THANKS A BUNCH

  • you are hooot! :)) sorry i cant help myself!

  • from all the makeup disinfecting videos i've seen they say rubbing alcohol shouldn't be used cuz it changes the color of your eyeshadows. but you seem to have no problem. You even stated to doing it everyday. Thanx for the vid really helped alot.

  • thank you! its so informative...

  • You're brilliant!

  • thanks a lot! very helpfull!!

  • nice

  • I do not recommend using rubbing alcohol. It contains isopropyl (a denaturant) which is an oil. After cotinued use (especially on dry products) it can cause problems.

Instead, use plain straight grain alcohol at a liquor store. The kind that you buy and drink. It is 100% alcohol. It is more expensive (because of the taxes), but it is much better and does not smell

Rubbing alcohol IS grain alcohol with the denaturant isopropyl

  • Hi, is there a way to disinfect mascara?

  • @fifitis03 Unfortunately not. That's because mascara is within a tube and once you've put your used mascara wand back in, there is no way to sanitize the product. If you are a makeup artist, you can use only disposable mascara wands with no double-dipping to avoid contamination. If the mascara is only for your personal use, then just use the wand provided and replace your mascara about every three months. Yes, it's annoying to buy mascara all the time, but I'd rather do that than infect my eyes

  • @fifitis03 You could do a hard core cleaning by taking the wand and washing it really really well, otherwise just spraying the wand will work as long as you let the alcohol evaporate, which shouldn't be long enough to ruin the mascara on the brush! Hope that helps!

  • @fifitis03

instead of using the mascara wands that comes with mascara, use disposable mascara wands :)

dont double dip, use a new mascara wand every time.

  • Thank you!!

  • awesome tip! i clean my brushes with that, but i never thought of using it on my eyesadow palettes! thank you sooo much!

  • loveee yaaaaaaa ur cute

  • I am sooooo glad you did this video. Nobody ever mentions this! Great vid!

  • Thanks for the tip, but is there anyway to disinfect lipglosses and mascaras? Would it be safe to actually pour some into either product and give a good mix and keep them uncapped so the alcohol would dry out? Would this harm these products?

  • @lilme4321 Possibly-beauty so clean has little wipes for this purpose so maybe by spraying some alcohol onto a paper towel and then wiping down the wands until they are clean would work. Obviously, this would have to be done EACH time before putting the wand back into the tube.

Goss-could this work? Or could the wands themselves be sprayed and wiped?

  • I had a very amiture exserance with being a makeup artist lol was in my school makeup crew 4 our musical and in past years they did no clean things and ppl were getting sick so we spent like 3 weeks going throught thing cleaning brushes disinfecting thing and to keep thing clean we did this very same thing so yea by the way i luved doing the makeup so how wud u say a good way to mabey go into this makeup artist in the future wud be?

  • i'm so happy that you are concerned about safety and hygiene like this. thank you for putting this out there.

    love your shirt, btw. lol.

  • Wow, I thought I was just being OCD with the alcohol spritz on my kit. Good to know others have the sense to do this & in good practice.

  • Wow, I thought I was just being super OCD with the alcohol spritz on my MUA kit. Good to know others have the sense to do it & in good practice.

  • The most concentrated forms of ethanol (100%) and isopropyl alcohol (100%) are less bactericidal than mixtures of alcohol and water because proteins are not denatured readily in the absence of water. Dry bacterial cells are more resistant to bactericidal action than moist bacterial cells. It has been reported that 70% and 50% ethanol killed Mycobacterium tuberculosis more rapidly than 95% when the organism was suspended in water or sputum.

  • Symptoms of isopropyl alcohol poisoning include flushing, headache, dizziness, CNS depression, nausea, vomiting, anesthesia, and coma. Use in well-ventilated areas and use protective gloves while using. Poisoning can occur from ingestion, inhalation, or absorption.

  • Thank you!

  • alcohol only kills bacteria but not viruses. i saw it some where on here (youtube).

  • @ITSSEXYBEAST

Viruses aren't able to survive if they aren't on a host (aka living thing). So, it doesn't matter if your make-up somehow manages to get infected with a virus, as it's an inanimate object.

  • @guerlainkisses how long do they survuve on inanimate objects?

  • Thank you for this video. I have been using 90% alcohol for years to swipe my brushes when I want to use the same brush to dip in a different color. This is an amazing tip and thanks for sharing.

  • Thank you! <3

  • Thank you so much for this video. I have just started applying makeup to others and wondered how to disinfect my palettes. There are many videos on cleaning brushes but this is the first one I've seen on disinfecting makeup. Brilliant!

  • Thank you! This is so helpful.

  • Thank you so much! This girl has been waiting for a video on cleaning makeup.

  • Most of my stuff are in powder form. Perhaps they aren't as bad bacteria trappers as cream and liquid counterparts, eh?

  • bacterias prefer wet stuff

  • @AlicelnWonderIand thats why he uses alcohol.

  • yeah I noticed that but it is not needed for powders. You can but it is not necessary i think

  • Fantastic!! Thanks for the video! Someone just asked me the other day how to disinfect eyeshadow, and now I know!

  • thanks for this info amazing video i have been searching for a video like this on youtube

  • You are the best! Can I use 70% alcohal?

  • youu are cute!....I want your palette :p...Thanks for the tip!

  • Thanks, super easy and cheap, great tip! love watching your videos!

  • hi thanks so much for this :-) i got some from boots yesterday ! i have bad skin acne , redness etc i have for years so i really wanted something to clean my makeup as i always double dip ! i never would have known about this so thank u :-)

  • sweet, thanks

  • How can I disinfect pencil liners?
