Missile Crisis true story: Was on 1 hr recall, when I got to the site (LA-73) RED ALERT all 12 rounds upright in launch position, guards w/ quad mount.50 cal MG's, concertina wire being reinforced. We knew nothing, only RED ALERT, public news was 6 days in future. Day 3 neighbors antsy, want to meet w/BC. BC made me PIO to meet: tell them "realistic exercise". After the meeting one couple said they recognize me? Asked their address, then I smiled. I delivered their newspaper when in high school!
Returned to the launch site/bunkers Saturday, with a friend. we climbed down into what looks like one of the ventilation ports. Unable to go any further than 4-feet each direction, because the bunker was flooded within 2-feet of the top roof. probably close to 15-16000 gallons down there. Not stagnant so it's getting fed from a spring, just not draining off.
This is HA36. Portland not Glastonbury. Your title confused me, but I recognize some of the photos. At least 15 years ago when I went, the cops would destroy fireworks in the pit which once was the launch area. There was also a caved in portion on the side that you could climb into. It led to a huge room but it was mostly filled with water.
from all the valid info out there - these sites where nike missile sites - (( WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT THE LARGE TITIAN Intercontinental missile MOST think about coming out of the ground - and with LARGE UNDERGROUND BUNKERS - these where actually supposed to be used to shoot down planes- these where not large military sites - 1 would think of. check out old pics- and blue prints will show this
MANY SITES - LG and SM are FOR SALE - even to live undergrd in -VERY COOL
Correct NOT the Titan style with a 140 foot silo it sat in , these are surface to air and were suppose to explode in the air and not actually hit a plane. A couple of sites have been sold to the pvt sector The one in ansonia is a horse farm but I bet the underground facility is still there just covered over with dirt What are you confused about ? It is nice to know that other people like checking these out
There where about 300 accross the USA the ones in the CT area Plainville Talcott mt science center Ansonia Ct also new Haven area also and and Crowmwell Ct has the buildings standing the launch area for Cromwell is in middletown. It was being used as an Army reserve training area. The location in Glastonbury is actually accessable Thanks for taking a look all feedback is welcomed and if you have any pictures of them please send them
my dad found out about these nike sites about three years ago......iv been to this the launch and the radar......and the one in cromwell.......there really neat!
yo just the other day i was there with people. we got into the same room you're talking about with the hallway at the end it was crazy. we also foudn this other one in the middle of some trees i think it was in your video. we went in but it was just the top of a room. we're going back to go to the toher site. there's supposed to be an entrance there to a huge area of underground passages and stuff
take a video cam with you and film it The only way I saw in was the back filled entrance that is on this video (2:00) let me know where the other entrance is.... cool nice job keep exploring. I went to the one in Ansonia and all most got arrested for tresspassing on pvt property
it was so fuckin sick. it was a pretty big empty room with a small hall way leading to another small room. we got in through a small hole neat a big tree. we tried to go through the place you were recordig at 2:00. were gonna make a vid and post it.
Al DiMeola guitarist! Nice audio selection from the album 'Elegant Gypsy'.
There was a radar and missile Nike Site where I grew up. A friend of mine was electrocuted and killed on the spot from a live transformer. He was only 10 years old. Feds and the city were sued. Abandoned with live electric power. Fence holes and open gate. GK, Michigan.
Let me know, I go all the time your more than welcome to come. There are about 6,7 of them in state. In fact the Talcott Mt science center is one. they would seperate the Communication site from the launch site
also at the site where the stairs lead up to the collapsed brick building there is a small shed off in the woods to the left of the flagpole where you can climb up on the roof and drop down inside and get into some rather large underground pipes. its best to go during the summer as the pipes are usually flooded if it has rained in the past few weeks.
I have been down into that first bunker you showed a few years back. of course there wasnt that much sand down the stairwell at the time. its one big room half filled with dirt and debris then a flooded hallway with a tiny room at the end with an escape ladder that is blocked by several large rocks.
its pretty cool at the bottom of the door you can still read the warnings stenciled on the walls about how to save somebody from electrocution.
WOOOOHOOOO!!! We found the bunkers!! Holy Grail LOL. CQ still talking about it. Liked the music choice. Needs to be longer & we need to do some digging. Good job!
