I find it entertaining that the Anglicans are somehow claiming this. (It is labeled "as seen on Anglican Mainstream.") This is of course written shortly after the Protestant Reformation by a Spanish Catholic in Latin in praise of the sufferings of Mary.
I was perhaps a bit too partisan. I have always found it odd, though, that Protestants have the habit of sneaking Catholicism in through the back door. As soon as an air of antiquity or a sense of continuity with the past is needed, in comes the Catholic stuff!
How many saints has the Anglican Church canonized?
Isnt Protestants and Anglicans becoming more accepting of Catholicism a good thing? I'm pretty sure that a large number of saints ended up that way because Anglicans and protestants hated them and their traditions so much....
And even us Catholics have lost so much of our traditions! I'm so glad they're making a comeback....
@Buttermonkey63 That's an interesting question. While it is wonderful if Protestants are becoming more attracted to the Catholic and orthodox faith, I think that some of this acceptance results from a kind of relativism. I really don't like relativism, so I'm hesitant to consider it a definitely good thing.
I'm glad that some of the traditional disciplines are coming back too.
@3abdulmesii7 I'm not really sure what you mean by relativism... but nevertheless you can't deny that acceptance of Catholicism is a big step. The sort of relativism I've witnessed has basically been the downfall of morality and "the world" (trying not to sound crazy here) but I don't see how this could bring about any harm or be an obstacle in any way.
"How can we not be moved?" Beauty is Truth, and eternal. Any age can recognize it. The scoffers, positivists, and those enamored with mere matter, and with the gnostic and vulgar banter of some pop, rock and rap will always be blind to its objectivity recognized via intellectual insight, and blocked in taking cognizance of it. A sad lot indeed, only to be pitied.
Dear brothers in Jesus-Christ, catholics, anglicans, presbyterian, lutheran, ... whatever your church. Today Christ is giving freely his life in the cross, and his mother, our mother, is dying in her hearth. She is dying for our unity, to be one, as the Son is one with the Father and the Holy Spirit (ut omnes unum sint sicut tu pater in me et ego in te,). Are we going to let he alone?
The sorrow of the weeping mother as source of inspiration for uplifting religious feelings and wonderful music transcending the boundaries of planet earth.
Marco Berrini
I wonder what went through this composers mind when writing this great music. Tallis, Byrd, Gibons, Palestrina, Allegri, Victoria, Lusaschi and co all had some common theme of greatness. When art was blemishing so was renaissance music. Oh boy with such harsh conditions of living this music would have soothed a lot of pain.Such legacy they have left and those not yet born will someday sit back and think the same thing.
@saintandrews84 We were the not yet born then, and are now are so. I love the music of the renaissance so dearly. And there are harsh conditions today as there were then. And the music soothes me unendingly. I consider the music of the high Renaissance to be the most soundly written of all music. Don't despaire, you are not alone
This is bequtifully written and performed. I am in awe of Palestrina's Devine Inspiration in scripting such masterworks as this. Thank you for adding this.
Who is singing this? Tallis Scholars I'd guess. Beautiful!

You misunderstand--Anglicans appreciate Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant traditions--we don't "claim" them. p.s. Palestrina was Italian, not Spanish.

Stabat mater dolorosa
(A mãe estava dolorosa)
Juxta cricem lacrimosa
(junto à cruz lacrimosa)
Dum pendembat filius
