I wished there was no order to get the Shards,though. This made 7 extremely linear,for a Dragon Quest. I mean,in others,sometimes I got lost and all,had to explore to find a new town,etc. In 7,you just had to track the Shards,and I barelly got lost at all. I would have appreciated the game more if I there was no order of wich Shard/Map you had to get/visit next. Probably

I absolutely agree with you if atari had made a game with a story like Xenosaga but the graphics were in 4 or 8 bit id still play it simply because of the story.

There are unfortunately many underrated RPGs out there simply because the graphics dont match what people want today, And there are many overrated RPGs out there that people play and claim are the best RPGs ever when those RPGs are just simply shallow experiences showing great graphics but stories that make no sense.

@Artificialraven Hmm, I kinda agree. Dragon Quest has never been about graphics, rather it's traditions and simplicity, in contrast to FFantasy: Not saying I don't like FF, just a good example of the opposite. Oh, how I grew tired the battle melody in DWVII...

To me DQ has always been more moderate in it's use of sentiment, in comparison to other things that come from Japan. It's interesting to see that DQVIII put more things similar to FF after the Square Enix coalition...

"Boy i sure wish wasting my time going over to the word stair and then climbing down" ..you ain't ever going to hear that. Some things could've helped this game in the US. Like a less archaic menu system. No character portraits? ugly....easier way to revive aly other than running back to a priest and messing everyones exp up....

Plus,even if Journey of the cursed king was for 64,or 32 or 16 or even 8 bits,Yangus,Jessica,the Guv or Angelo wouldn' t be less excelent or charismatic they already are,and the DQVIII wouldn't have a less good OST or gameplay.

It's possible. I mean, IV for the DS is a port of a PlayStation version and it added some content. VII is a really long game, even for DQ, though, since it has two discs, though. I don't know if IV for PS1 had 2 discs or not.

Dragon Quest IV is about the destiny of a child to save the world, and you live every adventure of the chosen ones to protect this child at the end of the game. Sincerely, when I got an RPG i play two or three times a week, but this game, I play with it every day. You should definitely play DQ4, and if you're a fan of the series, you have no other choice man ^^. Go for it, you won't regret it ;) (and remember that on the DS, there will be the remake of the VI, very son :D).

While you go through the game, theres these items you collect called "?shards". Some of them you can't collect until you beat the game and beat god a few times. But ultimatley you need all the ?shards to access the two bonus dungeons.
