just because the car didnt crumple/deform doesnt mean it did well. the car is so light it just bounces away from the impact like a pinball. the more crumpling the better, its the bouncing that hurts. dont believe me? crawl into a safe and then let a schoolbus crash into you at 40mph. yeah, the safe will look fine, YOU will not.
@theavailablenamessuk it is an enclosed go kart but thats the point, it's like a moped for the city except you wont get wet if it rains. we have 25-30mph speed limits in the city max, for those speeds it's safe enough.
motorcycles are even worse. Falls into the irritating to deal with category and seems to show up out of no where along with cyclists and pedestrians.
I think the smart holds together better than other cars in a side impact simply because the width of the impacting car has no chance to hit purely "door" like in larger cars. So it only gets to hit the two big pillars in the front and back.
