It actually sounds like a young Wayne Newton. In his early hit Danke Schoen, the voice is very similar to Connie Smith's.

It is Connie Smith, who was the number one female country singer in the mid 60s. She left show biz at the end of the 70s. This was recorded in the 60s for RCA.
