  • Nice- but can't top Grayson Hugh's original version. The SOUND and groove of his original version is just magic.

  • Oh, Hell no.

  • Well Grayson had Todd Rungren as a producer.....Todd does some amazing stuff

  • It's much easier to hear a song by someone first, then experiment with it to find a more suitable style, rhythm, key, etc. than being the first to actually do it - or in other words to be the leader.

It took me quite some time to be able to accept the Grayson version, but I did. It’s because he is a great singer and it’s a great song. I'm sure if ONJ's Producer had Grayson's version first to listen to, it probably would have sounded more R&B.

It’s GREAT, because I can have them both…

  • Nevertheless, both of these singers are very talented, they are singing in tune, and there is nothing technically “wrong” with either version.

The Record Producer (or artist) chose to do the recordings in different styles - usually to match the rest of the LP. I agree that this song is more suited for a laid back R&B groove, but to say that Ms..Newton-John is singing this poorly is just not true. It’s the radically different voice tones that will shock the ear, it shouldn’t be the singer.Cont

  • Olivia recorded this song first and it wasn't the featured lead single off of her LP or wasn’t a hit. I'm sure the sound of ONJ’s version to a person who knows only the Grayson version with deep male voices throughout, must have experienced a similar shock as when I first heard his version! After knowing ONJ's for a year and then hearing Grayson’s for the first time on the radio, I honestly thought that the DJ was accidentally playing ONJ at 33rpm’s instead of the normal 45rpm’s!

    Continued...

  • Forget it!!! She does not compare to Grayson Hugh who did this song in 1989. She is terrible!!

  • @tbn1953 if you don't like it don't watch it

  • I tend to like the Gospel/R&B so I like Gray version of this song. Maybe because I heard his version first.

  • This is fucking unlistenable !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @slemire58 yes. it's an absolute travesty

  • @napalm5 what makes you a critic?

  • I'm Australian and never heard Olivia's version ... there you go Grayson got the jump!

  • Comparing Olivia against Grayson is Moot. They are both brilliant musicians. The genre of the song was retro soul. For some reason Olivia's management overlooked this vital point. Rightfully Grayson saw an opportunity and gave the song the treatment it needed and it became a hit.

  • it sucks but we wouldnt have the grayson version without it,and that would be a true shame.thats why this gets props.and more to whoever heard this and thought "r'n'b i wonder?hmmm" lol...

  • You know this is a perfect example of how pedestrian, banal and one dimensional traditional pop music is. ONJ may have a nice voice but this version of this song is agonizing. Then you take another artist, with talent and have him do his own arrangement of this same song and made it a master piece.

  • Fuck Grayson Hugh right up the ass. Let him cover A Little More Love if his nose is out of joint.

  • I guess she tried

  • no thanks!

  • I gotta' agree with everyone else on this one. Grayson Hugh does better on this one by a landslide.

  • @DennisPross l am an absolute OLIVIA LOVER, but Grayson's version is uncomparible.

  • I'll add to the same sentiment many are making here: Great song, wrong singer.

I love ONJ's music, I love Grayson's Hugh's music. This one just doesn't fit. Grayson Hugh wouldn't do a very good cover of "Hopelessly Devoted to You", either.

  • she sure got over the death of her husband fast huh?

  • He's not dead. He's hiding out down in Mexico.

  • A música mais fraca de The Rumour... ainda assim, um bom clipe.

  • Who cares what version it is,this was a bad time for her.I sit and wonder why she acting in sordid lives, just look at what was going on in this video. He goes and commits audultrey.

  • greyson is the King! so much better!

  • I love Olivia, but yeah Grayson's version is way better - and it's not even her fault. The song and it's style lends itself towards a particular voice. In this case Grayson's was more popular and set the tone to beat from then on. It just comes down to his voice and vocal style being a more suitable fit.

There are songs that Olivia does that wouldn't work on other great singers, it's just the way it is.

  • This is a great version,LIVVY FOREVER

  • MATT DIDN'T KNOW HOW GOOD HE HAD IT.

  • get over it ...... maybe in bed

  • This is the worst version i've ever heard. What the hell was she thinking seriously....she just killed the song.

  • i agree Olivia burned it but not a good way lol

  • Wow Grayson Hugh's version is really much better IMO, didnt know ONJ covered it.

  • I love Olivia, but I must say that Grayson Hugh recorded the better version of this song. MUCH better.

  • I really like Olivia, but Grayson put it down with his version of this song. Excellent!

  • now you know why....

  • lol

  • I have herd alot of ONJ and never herd this one...

  • I'd never heard this by ONJ before...the message seems kind of tacky and tawdry when it's delivered by a woman to a man...play a LITTLE hard-to-get, girl!

  • That's because it was actually written BY A MAN, Grayson Hugh

  • Thats correct and no disrespect to Olvia but I like his version better

  • ty ........mr. pentium.....

  • this is a damn joke, grayson hugh is the man with the soulful voice....damn she fucked this tune up completely.......in fact i wouldnt take her to bed just for fuckin up this song up damnit!

  • I'm sure Olivia will be heartbroken, when she hears the news... I posted the Grayson Hugh version. He actually answered me, saying that she sole it, in effect, becaase he had not yet released his arrangement.

  • Grayson's song came out a year after this one.

  • I wonder why Matt and Olivia couldn't make it work?? That's actually her then-husband Matt Lattanzi in this video. It's sad that this video actually foretold the future of their doomed marriage.

  • because Matt was cheating on her with hookers- Read all about it in the book "you'll never make love in this town again"

  • i love this song!!

  • I am flabbergasted. I am the one who posted The Grayson Hugh version, and until someone told me, I thought that this was HIS SONG. What a shock to find out it's an ONJ song. I Like his version better though.

  • Actually, Grayson logged on and told me that this is actually HIS SONG, and the publishers gave it to ONJ. That explains alot.

  • I just found the better version last night. "talk it over" by Grayson Hugh. 5 people. 3 suitcases.

  • I LOVE this song!!! Matt is and always will be HOT!!! I wish Olivia and him would have stayed together!!

  • You can find the Grayson Hugh version by googling grayson talk aol

  • I like Olivia's version better than Grayson Hugh's.

It's sexy. And the video..Livvy looks so hot, as does Matt Latanzi(her ex hubby)..I heard time hasn't been kind to Matt.

  • In what way, has time not been kind to Matt? I've always wondered what happened to him. I loved him in "Rich and Famous".

  • I like her version better too.

  • This was 1988, and was the follow up single to "The Rumour", from Olivia's album of the same name.

  • does anyone know the band that sings this song with the video clip whair a guy sings and some little guys come out of a suitcase this version is sung with a blues feel to it and very laid back all the same love this song.

  • this is okay but not what i was searching for

  • where can i find the grayson hugh version..having trouble finding it online

  • it's at dailymotion dot com

  • i know that!

  • cool

  • grayson hugh's version was way better - more soulful and the video was cool!

  • Agreed. This is like the easy listening version.

  • I agree!! I wish I could find that version.. this is not the soulful souund I was expecting..
