olivia is gifted with its natural shine, beautiful inside and out, no need for eternal youth to please her admirers and fans, because when he smiles and sings...enchants!
It's much easier to hear a song by someone first, then experiment with it to find a more suitable style, rhythm, key, etc. than being the first to actually do it - or in other words to be the leader.
It took me quite some time to be able to accept the Grayson version, but I did. It’s because he is a great singer and it’s a great song. I'm sure if ONJ's Producer had Grayson's version first to listen to, it probably would have sounded more R&B.
Nevertheless, both of these singers are very talented, they are singing in tune, and there is nothing technically “wrong” with either version.
The Record Producer (or artist) chose to do the recordings in different styles - usually to match the rest of the LP. I agree that this song is more suited for a laid back R&B groove, but to say that Ms..Newton-John is singing this poorly is just not true. It’s the radically different voice tones that will shock the ear, it shouldn’t be the singer.Cont
Olivia recorded this song first and it wasn't the featured lead single off of her LP or wasn’t a hit. I'm sure the sound of ONJ’s version to a person who knows only the Grayson version with deep male voices throughout, must have experienced a similar shock as when I first heard his version! After knowing ONJ's for a year and then hearing Grayson’s for the first time on the radio, I honestly thought that the DJ was accidentally playing ONJ at 33rpm’s instead of the normal 45rpm’s!
Comparing Olivia against Grayson is Moot. They are both brilliant musicians. The genre of the song was retro soul. For some reason Olivia's management overlooked this vital point. Rightfully Grayson saw an opportunity and gave the song the treatment it needed and it became a hit.
it sucks but we wouldnt have the grayson version without it,and that would be a true shame.thats why this gets props.and more to whoever heard this and thought "r'n'b i wonder?hmmm" lol...
You know this is a perfect example of how pedestrian, banal and one dimensional traditional pop music is. ONJ may have a nice voice but this version of this song is agonizing. Then you take another artist, with talent and have him do his own arrangement of this same song and made it a master piece.
I'll add to the same sentiment many are making here: Great song, wrong singer.
I love ONJ's music, I love Grayson's Hugh's music. This one just doesn't fit. Grayson Hugh wouldn't do a very good cover of "Hopelessly Devoted to You", either.
Who cares what version it is,this was a bad time for her.I sit and wonder why she acting in sordid lives, just look at what was going on in this video. He goes and commits audultrey.
I love Olivia, but yeah Grayson's version is way better - and it's not even her fault. The song and it's style lends itself towards a particular voice. In this case Grayson's was more popular and set the tone to beat from then on. It just comes down to his voice and vocal style being a more suitable fit.
There are songs that Olivia does that wouldn't work on other great singers, it's just the way it is.
I'd never heard this by ONJ before...the message seems kind of tacky and tawdry when it's delivered by a woman to a man...play a LITTLE hard-to-get, girl!
this is a damn joke, grayson hugh is the man with the soulful voice....damn she fucked this tune up completely.......in fact i wouldnt take her to bed just for fuckin up this song up damnit!
I'm sure Olivia will be heartbroken, when she hears the news... I posted the Grayson Hugh version. He actually answered me, saying that she sole it, in effect, becaase he had not yet released his arrangement.
I wonder why Matt and Olivia couldn't make it work?? That's actually her then-husband Matt Lattanzi in this video. It's sad that this video actually foretold the future of their doomed marriage.
I am flabbergasted. I am the one who posted The Grayson Hugh version, and until someone told me, I thought that this was HIS SONG. What a shock to find out it's an ONJ song. I Like his version better though.
4. then paste this to 4 other video's, if you do this your crush will kiss you on the nearest friday! But if you read this and did not paste this, then you will have very bad luck and ur dad might lose his job
does anyone know the band that sings this song with the video clip whair a guy sings and some little guys come out of a suitcase this version is sung with a blues feel to it and very laid back all the same love this song.
Nice- but can't top Grayson Hugh's original version. The SOUND and groove of his original version is just magic.
