Mack and legendary Coltrane Quartet bassist Jimmy Garrison became friends after I introduced them in NYC while studying with Elvin. Later Mack went on to play with both Elvin and Jimmy in the Village Vanguard and other venues around the City, and Jimmy and his then Julliard doctoral candidate girlfriend would drive over to Jersey to our house to see Mack and to hang. I can always feel Mack's love for Jimmy when he plays this.
