  • I'm thinking to install my first Linux (Ubuntu 11.04 just released).

I seen some Unity videos, but seems that GNOME is better :)

    Right?

  • @Outlander999 I accualy had gnome, but Unite is kind of better. I dont know, but it feels so handy and its easy to manipulate .. no annoying Bars, almost every space on the screen is clear and the theme itself is awesome :))

For me Unite rules, because I like that space :)

  • Hey pc wizkid, I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10. But couldn't fully install it, its just a partition. It wouldn't install through the cd I made. So I had to download the microsoft one. But its just stopping for no reason. And I want to fully install it. Please help. I really liked this OS, and that u can install software online instead of keeping a bunch of disks.

  • i have windows xp, will Ubuntu make my laptop go slower or faster?

  • @LeGiiTxGameing It should go faster. I installed it on my Emachines computer and it is MUCH faster compared to Windows Vista. If I were you I would check to see if your hardware is compatible with Ubuntu (which it probably will be) by either using a live CD or just by Googling it. Have fun!

  • Cool. A system that looks exactly like a bad copy of Mac OSX...

  • what are you recording with in this vid cuz i have camtasia and i was wondering if it will work on unbuntu

  • Why does every linux distro look the same? It has got the same menu bar at the top! And the system settings are all the same...

  • @TheArceus12345 That's because a lot of them are using the Gnome desktop environment. A lot of distros use it because it is very customizable. But there is many more to choose from, such as: KDE, XFCE, LXDE, etc. I could on and on and on..

  • Consider this if you want Windows, Linux or Mac. Windows if you are a casual user who has a life, works and does recreational activities. Mac if you are a fanboy uber knob who brags about how quick his startup is and how thin his knob i mean laptop is. And linux if you are pretty good with computers, it is your hobby and your passion. Yeah, i like using windows, like the idea of linux but have no time for it and absolutely hate mac culture.

  • MacOSX theme?

    Really?

    are you a faggot?

hurr duurrr its all about your preferences hurr durr

  • in the long run linux is superior....better to support a system where the USER actually has a control to kill a program, the aps will eventually get there, and I prefer not to rip what's left of my hair out with blue screens, and stack dumps, and all kinds of $&#^ that comes with windows.

  • I am now ubuntu user :) just downloaded before 1 hour

  • how did you get those 'mac like' shortcuts in the bottom middle?

  • I would love to use linux as my primary operating system, but the lack of support for programs just is too much to give up after having windows

  • I don't like ubuntu as I can't change the resolution to suit my monitor, so I use fedora.

  • @ThereAreApplesNow you need to install your graphic driver.. ubuntu search for xorg setting.. cool tweeks.. ( i got same prob before )

  • Ubuntu- it's the child of OS X raped by Windows and raised by freelance programmers

  • where did you found mac theme?

  • @ICYTechWizKid this isnt a mac theme its ubuntu

  • @ICYTechWizKid way it is ask pcwizkidz

    is theme called mac4lin

  • I can't wait for GNOME 3 with gtk3. A completely new way to render and perform the graphical GNOME interface.

  • Why do you want your Ubuntu to look like Mac ? This is stupid. BE A PROUD UBUNTU USER !

  • Please can you do a video step by step how to install a theme im new to linux so i would like to know everything i need. To download this theme,

it's the theme from Die hard 4 the hacker uses for linux, send me a message and i send you the link. youtube wont let youpost links on comments:(

  • OPEN-SOURCE FTW.

  • today I installed ubuntu.WORST.OPERATING SYSTEM.EVER.maybe it's just me,but I think it's just a piece of shi.. toy with lot's and lot's and even moar lot's of issues(for example you need a PLUGIN to play mp3 files, you cant just play them or any other media without it) so to me it's just a piece of ripped mac osx version(by the ciasual looks). So once again I said:fu*k this shit and went back to windows...I mean come on-you don't look moar intelligent if you do it the hard way.

  • @drozle

    don give up man

    try linux mint almost everything

    comes out of the box

  • @nestorcoatl no no what I mean is...people who used differend shells like explorer(MS) or mac os stuff...theres no point to choose linux.First of all,as we know,MP3 JUST DON'T WORK,and second well...it's just that after using same thing for 5 years theres no point to learn everything AGAIN,especially when that everything is 100 times more difficult to do...anyways lol.

  • @drozle

    life fail

  • i want my windows 7 and i want ubuntu like a emulator

  • @C0DESUB Use VMware.

  • why did you block qgamez i never did anything to you

    ?

  • if you want osx get a mac

  • gnu/linux FTW !!!

  • so i spend 40 bucks on the pogram for nuthin lol thats fucking crazy im fucking madd this shyt suckssssss assss n there is nuthin els i could do to hack the ps3 slim

  • the ps3 slim will not let you install ubuntu, only the old fat one will

  • install mac4lin for youre them set :P

  • inst

  • I would only install this on virtualbox

  • Can you even play any recent games on this "Ubuntu" os?

  • nope and it isnt made for it either..

Some can be played on it but its not really made for it

  • @menzow Ok.

  • You can, not that well under Ubunto but other 'distros" are capable of it...

  • yes

  • are you using mac4lin?

  • He even uses Mac OS Icons. :D

  • that's Osx leopard background!

    :)

  • whats the wallpaper's name?

  • its the mac OS X wallpaper.

  • I think you just change the options/appearance, I don't think that you need software (btw it's ubuntu and not windows)

  • Isn't that the OS X Leopard background?

  • @Gothorochimaru it is!

  • @Gothorochimaru LOL yea it is

  • @Gothorochimaru probably a mac os x theme for ubuntu.

  • @Gothorochimaru

    wow, u r pretty fast, nah? ;D

  • @Gothorochimaru

    Yes but who cares? :D

  • @Gothorochimaru yes it is..... so wht?

  • Comment removed

  • Um, I need some help if you don't mind.....I just installed Ubnutu, and the internet worked fine on the live trial, but when I installed it, wifi and wireless won't connect. It tries, so it's not my driver.....is it my router?

  • what allowed you to make it look like mac???

and how did you do it???

  • he applied a theme, its not hard and got awn dock probly and changed the icons

  • yea i looked at some vids and found how to do it and it looks impressive. lol my friend was like MAC ON A PC!!!!

  • Well, if you want mac on a pc go with hackintosh, i did but the screen didnt go widescreen, no wireless, no sound but i still had mac on a pc xD

  • what i meant was that the last time my friend saw my comp it was pc but i switched to linux and made it look like mac so he thought i had mac osx running on my pc xD

  • mac 4 lin

  • its ok i switched back over to windows

  • i don't think i would ever try Ubuntu, not that its bad....Idk how good it is....Its just I really don't like it....People told me u can make ur desktop look the way u want it...like u can make it look like Vista, well I still wouldn't try it b/c it looks like ur not actually making it look like that OS....so idk, like I said I don't really like Ubuntu, but thats just me....

  • I like Kubuntu.

  • Nice to see.. Im currently playing Call of Duty 5: Waw on one of my desktops in ubuntu. I have WoW Working, COD4 and AOE working in Linux just fine. I have Office 2007, and visual studio 2008 under ubuntu aswell. Ubuntu has an online community that would rival Microsofts. Including a MUCH bigger programming community because everything is OpS. Im not saying its better than windows but if it wasnt for gaming I would use Ubuntu over Windows.. any day.

  • how did you get Visual Studio 2008 to work on Ubuntu?

  • VM hehe

  • waiting for the updated Ubuntu disk...currently just got StarDock on Vista going and making it look like a Mac OS. Not bad but I still hate Vista.

  • Did you request a disc? I put my college down and since I did that I get all the discs I request from canonical! Thats a pro tip btw :P

I dont necessarily hate Vista but I do understand what you mean :P. Its pretty fast on my machine but its still really groggy or something, hard to explain. I tend to just use Windows for Games anyway and use Linux for browsing and coding. Although i play WoW in Linux

  • well I my CD Driver won't boot up Boot Disks cause I've made 3 copies of Ubuntu and none of them worked!

Canonical? They take faster or something?

  • Wine?vm?

  • @KaedanIR so . windows is better !!!

  • @KaedanIR The benefits of Windows are largely due to large market share not out of superior quality. If Ubuntu had a bigger market share with more software and games, many people would jump on to Ubuntu.

  • @KaedanIR Nice comments, but I'd still say Windows NT has a larger programming community, Linux simply can't rival it. But the QUALITY of the community works the OTHER way... XD

  • u idiot, on windows dont run evereything;

    if you use Linux u have to no more about your PC thhan a windows user;

    with linux you have myriads of help possibilitys;

and u can also run much win progs with wine ..

    so ....

  • Certainly better than MS Windows!

  • Then you must give Ubuntu a try~ I have been using Ubuntu for about 6 months without any speed reduction. You may argue about the statement I said below if you're a gamer.

  • u idiot, it is the complete opposite you retard.

  • hahahayhahahahahahahah

  • Have you ever USED Ubuntu?

If not, you are one of the biggest

idiots i have ever replied to...

  • You know, the cool thing about Linux is that you only have to reboot if you install a new kernel or a new kernel component (like the nvidia or ati 3D-driver modules)

  • how did u install that Ubuntu Device Database and the Ubuntu Tweak and what are they? what skin did u use to make it look like OS X 10.5 and how do i get the Mac OS X Dock when i Skin it to look like OS X

  • gnomelook, ubuntu wiki ;-)

  • Can u download microsoft office to ubuntu

  • No, but there is OpenOffice, which is the same as microsoft office but it is free.

U can probably run it with wine but I recommend open office

  • What is the title of the background music? I've been hearing that music all the time lately...

  • Isn't Ubuntu just like Mac almost?

  • OR opposite. "it's very linux like" - Steve Jobs about OSX.

  • @sundhaug92

I'm sure he would have said "unix-like" as that is actually a term. Unix is not the same as linux.

People forget that Mac OSX is Unix at its core. They havent stopped creating combinations of hardware/software shipped together because Unix lends itself to building customised systems for specific hardware, and produces a very stable OS. Windows, 'jack of all trades' (supporting varying hardware) it ends up being unstable. If you like tinkering give FreeBSD a try, v stable.

  • Man I love Ubuntu. I tried it many time before, and I just could not get into it. But about a day ago, I decided to install it again because my Windows is slow, and I love it. Very customize-able with a lot of eye candy!

  • Tried it but no internet access of any kind is compatible with it.linus and linux sucks.

  • Don't get mad because you are to dumb to get it to work for you.

  • Why should I care, you get what you pay for ,linux the chinese version of windows.LINUX STILL SUCKS,BILL GATES IS A GOD.

  • first of all, linux isn't chinese. It comes from Linus Torvald who is from norway, i think...

then IMO linux rocks because it's just as good as windows (except that the support is by really nice volunteers and not a rip off hotline) and it's free at the same time. also u can modify linux better that windows.

  • I know,but I will stick wit h something that works.

  • ubutu works perfectly

  • Not for me so back to windows.

  • lol Chinese version of windows my foot. Unix was released in 1960s and Linux was released in the 1970s. The first version of windows was released in 1981. So who ripped who off? I also believe that they are both great operating systems, and so is the MAC OS X. I love them all really.

  • Yes only 10% of computers users use linux, exception is servers, but you must realize as for servers you just set them up and leave them to work, rarely do servers need or have human user input.

Linux may be free but a majority of computer users want it work out of the box and do not want to hunt for drivers that may not exist.

90% of people do want the irritation.

  • Sorry my friend but the Linux kernel was originally written in 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux was NOT released in the 70's, Unix was written in 1969 by a group of AT&T employees.

Get your facts straight my friend.

I myself love Linux and Windows but I dislike Mac mainly because they don't use their own kernel and Mac in general sucks.

Anyways that's your lesson for today :)

  • I think there is no 'perfect' OS. Linux has many advantages, like it is the safest OS, the fastest OS, the most modifyable OS, ...

Windows is easy and Mac is eyecandy

  • very true

i guess if you have a more diverse collection of operating systems than it would just benefit you

  • yes there is internet access! if it doesn't work for u just install ur network card's driver!

  • how do i add a windows work group to ubuntu i need help with networking my ubuntu laptop to my windows pc

  • I dont know, all I do know is ubuntu sucks.

  • don't suck =p if you know how to use anything like this you will find that eatch oprateing system has it flaws my advice is try to use it , if you don't like don't use but never say it sucks

in some ways it better than windows ...

at least you don't have to pay a licence

and im a begainer to lunix and think that unbuntu is good in it own right

and my prevoius post still stands dose any1 know how i could network my ubuntu laptop to my windows network via any means be it by workgroup or so on

  • Maybe the whole OS dont suck, but their video drivers do.

  • lunix uses the core driver of the pc it not like windows =p they use the hardware you have

there could be a solution in a foum if u like ubuntu / mabe you try to get around this issue what video card is it

  • Intel 965 express mobil. The issue is choppy video in full screen and brower HD video.

Its choppy like running HD on a computer 4 or more years old.

I tried ubuntu forums and no reponse,as of yet.

  • ill have a look no promises

    might find

  • Don't you mean Linux?

LUnix is an OS for the Commodore 64 :p

  • whoops sorry =p

  • what I love about linux is that when everything freezes you can simply hi Ctrl + Alt + Backspace and the graphical environment is restrarted. it acts like a reboot but it is faster. In MS when everything freezes you have to restart the whole PC. My friend in germany has a linux PC that hasnt restarted for 11 years. The computer is ancient and so is the version of linux. he uses the PC as server. My windows pc has to resart every once a week

  • 11 years for a computer?time for an updated one I think.

  • mines 5 years

  • That was a XP Thing.

They made CTRL+ALT+DELTE better in windows vista / 7

  • well yeah but when everything freezes up (bluescreen, game crashed, windows decides to take a break, etc) you'd have to make a restart, in linux you don't. Also programs don't require a full restart in linux, in fact due to the package system a program is installed with only 2 clicks and no worries

CTRL + ALT + DELETE doesn't help when everything froze up

  • how can u get a dock i use ubuntu 9.04

    please answer

  • awn manger, search it on google

  • I got a system76 ad on this video. Awesome!

  • Wow! I didn't think that Ubuntu is that grate!

    No words, FANTASTIC!

  • I downloaded 9.04 the other day. When I can be stuffed I'm gonna install it.

  • is this the same one that works as an application over windows?

  • well this is older version. Check the response video to see the new version.

  • Where did you get that theme from? please respond i use ubuntu 8.04

  • Hi, please visit my blog or website in the ubuntu section I wrote articles explaining where to get the themes and everything.

    cheers

  • Kl will do. thanks for responding.

  • just look up mac4lin.

  • do i lose any files if i install ubuntu?????? pleawse tell me!!!!

  • only if you don´t remember where you left yours files .. I'm kidding =), the truth is that it is very open question ... you have a single hard drive? If so you can choose to install it on the free space and then you dont lose anything. I hope i help you!

  • okay!

  • THANK YOU for your videos!!!

  • Ubuntu looks very interesting.

  • The theme that he is showing isnt the original ubuntu theme, its a customized mac os theme.. Just to make sure :-) Ubuntu use a brown or orange coloured theme, but you can customize it exectly as you want to.. Ubuntu is really great :P

  • It honestly looks like OS X and Vista or XP had a baby.

  • Wallpaper is reminiscent of OS X, and he has a dock (RocketDock, most likely)), but that's definitely not unique to Mac's OS.

Could say it looks like a Windows operating system, but Linux does everything Windows fails to.

  • Windows fails at everything in my opinion. I have really used Ubuntu, so I can't say any pro's or con's about it. And i do think he is using RocketDock. I have used it before and it looks pretty familiar.

  • no he is not using rocketdock ( its for windows only )

  • Ubuntu is faster than Vista

  • nice work

  • It looks like a combination of Apple OSX and Vista!!!!

  • i was thinking about getting this i am running xp sp3 but on linux will i be able to get wireless internet on it lke how does wirless connectivity work on linux

  • It works straight away. No need for installin anything, just input the data provided by your ISP and it works normally.

  • it works but you need to have an ethernet connection first if you have a laptop for desktop i wouldnt know

  • People that can't pronounce Ubuntu Piss me off. "Abuntu"? WTF!

  • download the ubuntu iso cd image.. then just boot ubuntu from the cd and try it out!.. it won't install nothing on your hard drive and it's totally safe to try!

and ubuntu is free.. ubuntu = linux

  • PCWizKid You are the BEST!!! 5*

  • how did you get that clock on the desk top?

  • apt-get install cairo-clock

It will give you one :)

  • ok; thx

  • where do u go to download it ?

  • wubi-installer(.)org

  • "Avant dock" is better.

  • I'm gonna check it out.

    Thanks!

  • How did you record this? And what dock is that?

  • im considering getting Linux in my PC but i dont know what version to install. i have the CDs for Suse, Red Hat, Ubuntu, and Kubuntu. which one of those should i use? or is there a better version i can get online? what are the advantages and disadvantages for each?

  • go with Ubuntu is one of the best and easy. If not install Fedora linux witch is the open source version of Red Hat. good luck.

  • to all Ubuntu enthusiast Ubuntu is great however check out ubuntu's cousin Linux mint. they share a lot of things. in common.

  • No HD here, darn.

  • Gnome has gotten a lot better I used to not even be able to stand it now it's pretty good.

They still should put everything though a sound server like arts on KDE.

One big complaint I still have is an open app can block sound from the browser.

  • HELP! whenever i try and change the effects from none to the normal it says

    searching

few seconds later: CAN NOT ACTIVATE DESKTOP EFFECT

  • install nvidia drivers, turn on composite extension

if you have ati card sell it, buy nvidia and then install drivers

  • Ubuntu doesn't install drivers in the live CD. You have to install Ubuntu in your hard disk

  • it'd be awesome to know what screen recorder you used.

  • He used gtk-recordMyDesktop.... You can get it through Add/Remove Programs. Super Easy to use.

  • nice vid, i have ubuntu, i dual boot it. just wondering how you got the navigation bar at the bottom? what is it and how did you get it? it seems very useful :D

  • lol ur the only one that pronounces Ubuntu the way I do. Everyone else says it different.

  • I think if UBUNTU or LINUX can make it a little more user friendly, they would stomp WINDOWS. WINDOWS made people lazy, look here, click this, look there click that BLAH BLAH BLAH. In UBUNTU or LINUX, you have to be more aware of your environment and whats going on, a little smarter then the average WINDOWS user. Maybe im wrong, but more power to LINUX for UBUNTU!!

  • ubuntu is king :)

  • so how do i get the mac look on my ubuntu 8.10 desktop??

  • Visit the link in my video description, I wrote an article with details.

  • ubuntu is the best
