he only uses one bass drum all the time but like previous comments it gives a more fuller complete look...when i can afford a new kit i will go for using both bass drums, but il see how it feels
@ibanezmetalman It's not so weird...another bass can be used to hold more toms without using it...a lot of drummers use a double pedal and have a second tom only to have a more impressive drumkit.
The other bass drum isn't for show, he uses the left side of the right bass drum for one tom, and the right side to the left bass drum for another tom, this way his toms and snare are right next to each other, its actually really smart
Yes! a lot of drummers do that. 2 bass means double problems. you tune one and put a double pedal then you have te same sound with the double bass aesthetics, because duble bass is ONLY aesthetics
he's using triggers y'know? only tuning he has to do is to tune the batter way up to get lots of bouncy. double bass and double pedals is just like the drum setup, there's always a difference between drummers.
He is very good, not the best but definitely waaaay over average. If you don't know he had another band in 1995, Sacrilege, sounds very similiar to early In Flames and At The Gates, In the 2 albums he did with Sacrilege, It was AWESOME drumming. And also, listen to Brush the dust away with in flames ;)
Ok, im kinda new to drumming, just recently discovered that im interested in it. So i love in flames and just wanted to know, how good is daniel? one of the best drummers u know off or just basic guy?
well, how good is he in what department? as an overall drummer he's good. i wouldn't see him playing that extreme brutal...black doom metal thing. As far as metal is concerne though, yeah he's good. what i find to be his greatest asset is his ability to record any inflames song they write, put in his unique tastes and flair, but not taking anything OUT of the song, like...overdoing it, like we can hear in other bands. skills come with practise and he's got very good skills!
It contains his backing tracks that are fed to the rest of the band as well. He is the one who decides when and what songs are played through the monitors. it's what you hear besides the drums. Keyboards, backing guitars etc. But during the concerts, it's a bit more discreet.
I know that at least In Flames, and some other high-budget bands are wearing headphones connected to a wireless reciever on their belts. These special in-ear-phones are usually molded for a perfect fit in the ear. They are as sound isolating as normal protective earplugs at times, and can go for about 500 bucks if you want the best. They're usually skin colored so you don't see them unless you take a closer look. Hope that covers what you need to know:)
or maybe, you know, he's memorized the song, considering he wrote it and has to have played it live so many times by now, its not that hard, and when you're that good im sure you can easily keep the tempo. you dont need backing tracks when ur that good
I get what you're talking about, and i have no doubt he could, but at a cost of perfection. So no. I'm into the business myself and i've also asked them. The tracks aid both the drummer and the rest of the band. I'm not arguing that he doesn't know his shit, but without those tracks, the concerts would be much less spectacular!
thats awesome. i live way out in newfoundland, so sadly i dont think i will get to meet them, which sucks cause id like to get the official tabs for some songs and the meaning to some lyrics sometime, and to just get to know them. id love to be able to play the drums like daniel
Anders gives a brief description of all the new songs in a Swedish interview. If you want, I'll translate those descriptions for you and PM them. I have many of their songs 'tabbed' in my head but i never write tabs, but get in touch and I'll see what I can do.
the backing tracks are supported by a clicktrack in daniels headphones, it's not that unusual, because there are segments in the songs without backtracks, but he still needs to stay in perfect tempo
hes always plays clicktrack, i think he didnt on a show, cant remenber which , but u cant tell the differance, since he has been training with a metronome for so long it just becomes a habbit of playing in time. just adding some details.
what's awesome about daniel is that he has a really passionate drumming style that fits the music perfectly. He only does short bursts of insanity rather than continuous non stop displays of wizardry (like for example blake richardson from Between The Buried and Me, who to be fair is phenominal) but when he does it sounds so tasteful. Just a great player.
I wish i had THIS track. not drums or anything, just the electronics, the sampling and the entire vox. i think i could even have a metal-hater relax listening to it.
Daniel Svensson i`ve met before, hes a great drummer i know cuz i`m a drummer but hes lacks a few things but i won't realy mention those because he is great he is my sencond favorite drummer along side of Jon Rice(job for a cowboy)
I think he is amazing in In Flames. I haven't seen anything extraordinary from him technically (only saw him live once), but you can tell he matches In Flame's style perfectly for whatever direction they go.
Jon Rice has the ability to show more technique because of Job For a Cowboy's style but I don't feel like he brings the same amount that Svensson brings to In Flames. Just my opinion, not saying anything bad about Job for a cowboy.
that's what I thought, but I listened to the album again and I realized that it's actually the same, you just can hear the electronic effects that they throw in clearer then the album that's all.

He uses it for show. He's got a drum-rack, it would do that job easier and better than the two bass-drum thing you explained.
