@scania480 Hi, B-doubles max length is 25 metres, Roadtrains max is 53.5 metres. The weight depends on the amount of axles you have. You will see some tri-drive prime movers ( tractors) here. Loads of 150 tonnes gross is not uncommon on a full length roadtrain.
well i am here in queensland an english man working downunder and yes the buggers are big but dam fast to, as i drive to work at 4-30 am i get my doors blown off the old toyota by the b dubbles all clocking over 130 kmh thay drive round the clock no tachograph to limit them and the road death toll out here is herendous the amount of trucks that overturn and catch fire is bad trust me thay ant so cool when its pissing down and they are trying to push you up the freeway and wont slow down
@rezek71 Unless they're some kind of special purpose truck e.g. garbage truck, street sweeper, Australian vehicles are right hand drive. Have been since there were cars on the roads here. If you import something that's LHD, that's more than 25 years old, there's no requirement to convert it
That sounds like the MAson Williams version from '70 off his album. The version we generally hear with the horns in the middle is from a live recording. And as an aside, Eric Clapton didn't record a version of Classical Gas, ever, it's just a rumor.
I was also wondering about the roads/highways. Are they predominantly two-lane like this, or are these just rural roads like we have here? I used to absolutely hate getting stuck on two-lane roads--too damn slow and you always get stuck behind some farmer or old woman with nowhere to go and all day to get there. Get me back out on the four-lane, set the cruise at 70 and go. I'm glad I'm not trucking anymore though; even here that's one job I don't miss.
In western australia, north of perth at least, basically all roads between cities are two lane. With an occasional overtaking lane, but nowhere near enough. It's not uncommon to be stuck behind a truck for over 100km for half your trip.
no they tow up to 7 trailers in the outback, usually with a power trailer halfway along so like the 3rd or 4th trailer has an engine on it. roughly 1200hp
5 trailers,,, 6 including the Dolly was the biggest Ive driven in Central Qld,, and also the biggest i saw. I will be driving in the NT early next year,,, Tri drive,, Quad ,, Tri dolly,, Quad,, Tri Dolly,, then Quad Quad Bdouble.
why do they seem to like A-trains instead of B-trains? (do they still call them A-trains as they seem to have changed the A shaped coupling to a straight bar. thanks
Triples is about the most you can pull in the US but that is only in certain states. Otherwise, doubles is your limit. In Europe, you can't even pull doubles! Too many points of articulation for their roads and too long. I envy the Australians for their road trains and scenery.
Hey, how many speeds do those use..including the rear end..many trucks, evne here in USA aorund 1948 had to use two sticks and a two or three speed rear and even today a fifteen or eighteen speeder for the largest (mentioned here in the case of midwestern ones which use three trailers-one semi and two "pups") might be mated to a five speed ws/two speed rear ends..15x5x2=57x2=150 and 18x5x2=18x5=90=x=180!! How many in Australia, mate..?
The largest truck I've ever seen was carrying something from a space station or something in florida, it had 2 trailers spanned by a gigantic pillar-like thing. 3 times as long as a normal truck's trailer
Portagutta, where double turn to triples! I love the red hills and salt lakes around there and the water looks so crazy there coming down to the Port Pirie intersection out of the hills. The bridge there is also on the start of Wolf Creek
Watching this, and other Road Train videos has shown me that we American truckers are spoiled rotten. We get asphalt and one long trailer, or two short ones. And I'll admit, when I'm at 80,000 lbs. and I get choked down in a pull, I get a little discouraged. So I can't imagine pulling three or four trailers on a dirt road going up a hill. I give full respect to these guys.
hauling two trailers is old, started here in Ontario Canada back in the 7o's in Quebec Canada, they haul 2 53 footers, I think limit here in Ontario is over all 120 feet long.
that was just awesome... i loved the background music too. i am from port augusta and now living in darwin. my father beind a truckie his whole life is the reason i have a love for trucks...travelled all over australia with him by the time i was 5... cheers once again...
Good work. I nearly got to do a run to Port Licoln last week which isnt far from there. I always have a smoko break just out of port Ausgusta where you have the Darwin turnoff and watch the trucks for a bit. Shinny side up!
cant be a pilot...but can be a roadtrain driver...YES! life still has hope

How long and how heavy is a road train? In Sweden we have 24-25 meters and 60tons as standard length and weight.

I told myself that, before I die, I'd visit Australia just to see how much these road trains put our US trucks to shame.
The drivers there seem so friendly, too.

sure it would be no different than any truck.
carlocardillo 4 years ago
i figure with the extra trailers it would need a super heavy duty jake brake or massive wheel brakes
kiteLe06 4 years ago
but do all the trailers not have disc brakes and abs anyway
carlocardillo 4 years ago
yes. they do, i just thought that those normal disc brakes even with ABS couldnt take the extra load pushing on them
kiteLe06 4 years ago
no they dont actually, majority still run drum brakes and im not 100% sure but as far as i know none of the trailers have ABS, only the prime mover.
baldymp3 3 years ago
Many trailers these days have ABS, but as far as I know, yeah, just drum brakes.
