Killer Whales are the smartest of all the Whale species. She was in no danger swimming with them because the one she helped rescue would no doubt remember her face. They are near human in their intelligence. However if you attempt to harm one and itgets away it will remember you and try to tear you apart. Watch the movie Orca and you will see what I mean.
Are you kidding, Australia has some horrific animal cruelty going on.
And most Japanese are not cruel to animals. Most are horrified by what goes on in the Cove and don't eat whale ect. I will remove racist comments and I don't support them. Thanks.
@binbashLinuxAhole its true there are alot of aussies that love and want to protect animals, but that doesn't mean animal cruelty doesn't happen. Theres poaching that occurs there, puppy mills etc just to name 2 . Also, beef, pork, chicken whatever farms...yeah animal cruelty not many pay attention too....
that is the most amazing thing I`ve ever seen! and the reunion was amazing too, I just love how he keep getting closer to her, and looking at her while making this cozy sounds. It`s like he was saying thank you, and the pod follows :) just proves that animals know more than we think they do.
Yep, It's amazing alright. This was in 1997 and Ben is still alive today and doing incredible. He's just over 30 years old now. He featured in the documentary that Ingrid did last year, where he was catching rays with his family.
Have you seen the other short video I posted of Ingrid talking about Ben?
Hi, can anyone explain to me what is the difference between bean and ben? Bean as in soya bean? Thank you and i am appreciated to people who explain it to me.
@hateseaworld Doctor ( well....professor really) Ingrid Visser is a New Zealander. , but her parents are Dutch . But Ingrid is pure Kiwi, so, yeah, a lot of people may not quite get her accent. But she is a world acknowledged expert in cetation life , and like me, she loves Orca. Fancy calling an Orca " Bean "??? how odd ! Yes, the Orca know her. And she considers them to be sea people ( sentient beings ) . So do I :-)
Interesting how the whales didn't even consider attacking her when she was in the water with them!!!.. Amazing video and story!.. This is one that should be used against SeaWorld and in the law case to free Morgan!!! =D
@Nicoleinho - Orca's very rarely attack humans in the wild. They are very curious and will always come to inspect.. they are still wild though, If they're hunting it's obviously more dangerous.. but, for the most part.. they are curious, and lovable animals.
You could count on one hand the ammount of orca attacks there has ever been on humans. The worst attack was when an orca mistook a surfer for a seal but spit they guy straight out when it realised its mistake and the guy just had to have a few stitches on his leg.
Using this in the law case to 'free' Morgan is useless, the story is completely different. When they found Morgan, putting her back was not an option, she would have been dead within days, Her family was and is nowhere to be found, she was on the brink of death and starvation and cannot hunt for food. Throwing her back into the ocean means she'll starve again or simply go back to people, she has learned to trust them and get food there. Putting her back is not an option anymore, not after a year
This is quite different from what seaworld does to these creatures. Ben would STILL be in a chlorine pool eating dead fish and having his sperm forcibly extracted. Bless these people curse seaworld and all who patronize it.
Ingrid Visser wrote a short scientific paper about this whale including this strading and the time he got hit by a boat and his healing afterward that you can read online.
My goodness, please think. When Morgan was found, she was ill, starving and on the brink of death. Simply putting her back into the sea would be equal to killing her. Her family is not known, nowhere to be found and hardly studied. Everyone has tried their best to locate it. Now she has been in contact with people for a year and got completely used to them. She is touched and fed by human hands. Releasing her is not option. SHe does not even know how to hunt for food.
@NamuTheOrca Actually Morgan's family HAS been found, her calls were matched to 92% of a Norwegian pod's (the other 8% were probably distress calls). Morgan was estimated to be around 3 or 4 years old, she would have already been weaned off her mother and be catching fish for herself. Also Springer, who was orphaned and taken into human care, had no problem catching fish when she was released, and she is still alive today.
Correction taken on her family then, I hadn't heard about that news. Many people refer to Springer, but what they don't keep in mind is how that went. Her family had been studied for years and her mother was known. Also, Springer was kept away from people. When she was fed, people stood behind sheets so she would not associate them with food. Despite all this care she got mighty beaten up by her family when introduced. Morgan has learned to associate people with food.
@NamuTheOrca But think about Keiko as well. He was able to catch his own food. Sure he approached people for food, but he was in captivity for 20 years, he was captured around age 1 or 2, and he was trained. It might be a bit of an issue with Morgan for the first couple months or so, but if she is weaned off people (in a seapen, similar to Springer) she will become less dependent on people and more involved with her family.
amazing rescue....koodo's to all of you!
