  • @foggo24

and he has tears in his eyes, thinking one day the war is gonna end.

  • SOMEDAY ..........

  • 72 FUCKERS MUST BE BOMBED WITH NAPALM...!!!

  • NOTHING LIKE THE SMELL OF NAPALM IN THE MORNING!

  • @Mrgoldsilver1 That is the point of the scene. It emphasises the macho culture of the american war machine, and also the brutality of the Americans in this war; at odds with the political ideal to 'help' the Vietnamese.

  • @HarryTAdkins I agree with what your saying - the scene does symbolize that aspect of American culture over there, but Ive also looked at this scene with pity. When he makes the speech, you get this feeling of a man who has finally found something he's good at - perhaps even found himself in Vietnam - and then comes back to reality and remembers that it has to end someday. He had power in vietnam, but when he goes back to america, he's once again just another face in the city

  • @IsthmusCrypticus I really like that point as well. Mind if I steal it for my essay? :P

  • ROFL!

Coverup strategie, like allways lie after lie.

Some few call it chess, if you braiwashed politicians know what i mean. And this shit i call killing by doing for nothing. Specially then when you don`t know what for.

War means you are going to loose anyway, because both parties will loose anyway. Thats the natural of war.

  • Awesome film, love this! When they dyin' we feelin' victory smell yeah!!

  • Bill Kilgore>>>>Chuck Norris

  • that hats bigger than him. stupid yank

  • Napalm is famous for its smell amongst the victims of american violence .it is a horrible weapon ,which makes another point for the termination of human wars, and for criminalisation of any attempt to exercise violence to another. All the perverts who want to kill humans ,they can get onboard a big spaceship and off they go to find their planet to stay and play war between the,.here on earth we do not want any more of this shit.

  • Americans trying to retcon losing in Vietnam always brings the lulz.

  • aside from all the political mumbo-jumbo that people are going on about here, there is one thing I want to know......

How does Robert Duvall keep himself from flinching when that explosion goes off behind him?

  • @gupsnot

It porobably wasn't all that loud or violent in real life, probably wasn't an exp+losion at all, they just edited in the sound.

  • only reason America "lost" is because the stupid hippies had a cry so they couldn't nuke the Ho Chi Min trail

  • @nathanblackcock No your soldiers were not dissiplined enough your leaders greedy and stupid

  • @bacon2boy

Dude, read about Dwight H. Johnson and tell me THAT man wasn't disciplined enough, only fucking Tank driver to get a Medal off Honor in that War for ultimate Badassery far above what average Humans can do.

  • @nathanblackcock Yeah, because it's not like launching nuclear weapons risks a counterstrike or anything. *rolls eyes*

  • @hotelmario510 well first off they would have used bombs, and secondly vietnam had nothing to counterstrike with.....

    stop playing call of duty

    *rolls eyes*

  • @nathanblackcock I've never played CoD. You realise that the Communist area of Vietnam was in league with the USSR at the time? Ergo, counterstrike.

    Oh, and fuck you.

  • @hotelmario510 Actually Vietnam had very little connection to the USSR, if any at all. It was China that helped them a little by supplying them with weaponry but generally they faught of the US by themselves.

  • @philipmcjim

Damn, disingenuous people make me irate..

Firstly, the USSR supplied more than 1000 troops, plentiful supplies of ammo and intelligence reports to North Vietnam. Secondly, yes China did help them. When you 'If any' you only make it evident that you haven't properly studied the History of this Period. Go back to school, kid. Let the growns up talk.

  • @BelfastAtheist I didn't understand any of that under the size of your ego.

  • @philipmcjim

I know, right? It's almost as behemothic as my cock.

  • @nathanblackcock Well the Americans dropped napalm and agent orange all over the ho chi min trail and still lost. The reason they lost is because the Vietnamese Geurilla fighters were willing to do ANYTHING to get the AMericans out. And they had no uniform or way of showing that they were a soldier. As far as American soldiers could tell anyone in any part of vietnam could have been a communist soldier. It's nearly impossible to beat that.

  • @philipmcjim sorry to ruin your fairytale; the war was lost in the USA, the people didn't support the war anymore. You should get some education/

  • @Tralgit So the actuall war had nothing to do with american losing the war... The vietkong's knowledge of the jungles, their use of traps and secret tunnels. Their use of Guerilla warfare and the fact the Americans 90% of the time had no idea who their enemy was that had nothing to do with them losing the war. Yeah when people lose a war there is always just ONE factor.

  • @philipmcjim Child's play, the US didn't loose any battle. Johnson didn't allow the military to fight the war as they wanted it, same goes for Nixon. They tied the military one hand behind their backs and told them to fight. The people in the USA were not interested in this war, they had better things to do. The economy was doing very well and the South Vietnamese didn't want to fight for their freedom so why should the USA ?? The Hollywood movies are not reality, read Kissingers memoirs

  • @Tralgit I didn't learn my hitory of vietnam from films nor will I learn it from the memoirs of a politician.

  • @Tralgit What America learnt most from this war is that you don't take a knife to a gun fight. The Americans could never have won this war unless they nuked the entire country, they are only able to fight mechanised wars with rules of engagement, not jungle warfare against guerrilla combatants. The war should never have happened, I feel sorry for both countries losses, again politics and political egos have killed many innocents and left millions scarred for life, even here in Australia. respect

  • @whorayful They, the military, was not allowed to fight it how the wanted, Nixon drew a large circle around Hanoi and said; this is off limits. The military was fighting with one hand behind its back and the VC/NV used their own people as cover .The Aussies did very well.

  • the military indusrtal complex wins veitnames people lost poor people who fought these wars lost but bankers and elite made billions

  • smells like.... an offer he cant refuse

  • i like how the vietnam resisted the mighty usa, and none of the middleeastern countries coulndt.

  • @catbearlol It wasn't vietnam that resisted the usa, it was the usa. america pulled out of that one because of all the anti-war protests.

  • @ariel0weber It was because Vietnam heroically fought and resisted (like they did with Japanese, french and later chinese) that there were antiwar protests, as the body bags were coming home with dead GI's

  • 0:45 Cool guys dont look at explosions!!!!!

  • rofl !

  • Awesome movie. Saw the redux version.A must see before you die

  • What can i say? EPIC

  • I think he means that he knows they are gonna lose the war because he says :

    - not even a viet cong body found, smells like victory. But he doesn't say it's american victory.

    - he concludes by this war is gonna end.

if you consider this sentence from a logical point of view, you know he means they are gonna lose it.

  • @supermegaburne No, he said "that gasoline smell" is what smells like victory. Kilgore could care less if they were winning or losing, what he loved was fighting, that's why he sounded sad when he said the war's gonna end.

  • @supermegaburne I think he means by saying that they didn't find any bodies, that they were all burned to ashes and dust, and it smelled like victory... And that that was awesome.. And he says with obvious pity in his voice that someday this war's gonna end, with all that victory and great smell.

  • @mrPampers1 bruce lee did

  • @lphiljipl That napalm was probably the by-product of Chuck Norris' fart.

  • What about the smell of My Lai in the morning?

  • "We are not about to send American boys 9 or 10 thousand miles away from home to do what Asian boys ought to be doing for THEMSELVES."

  • @macron755

Lyndon B. Johnson. When he said that, he was right. Years of fighting didn't lead any side to victory, both sides lost. The USA got kicked out and Vietnam became a shithole for the next 10 years.

  • @Xaphri how can you say both sides lost, when America pulled out, the north Vietnamese army clearly and decisively crushed the south Vietnamese and re unified the country (their whole reason for the war) and the very thing America tried to stop

  • @fromthelandofozz America pulled out, but the advance of communism was stopped anyway, which was the primary objective. What bothers me is that people always look at the political context. Ask an American mother who'se husband or son died in Vietnam or ask the Vietnamese kids that are still being born handicapped today because of the war, whether they feel victors. The people involved in this war lost regardles the side , and it's the people that form a nation. So all involved nations lost.

  • That's what the fuckin Viet and Chinese rat-bastards realy need: Napalm and A-bombs. Just send them again this holy stuff! Immediately please!

  • @Wollenschrank

    omfg

  • Some day this war's gonna end! HOLY FUCK!!!

  • I was in school as the war in Vietnam began - I was in Europe and the people said, the USA has to fight against the Vietcong - the communists from North Vietnam - and we have to support them - even the teacher told us that. But in the late 60ies the Vietcong became more powerful and invaded Saigon and Da nang. It was the TET offensive. Nixon became the new president and he told to the world: The war in Vietnam will end soon - our boys are back home soon - maybe next X-mas, but this was not true!

  • duvall at his best

  • Vietnam 1 - US 0

  • @TheMunch97 and ecause they lost support from back home

  • This General was the most highly decorated soldier in Vietnam his hero is "The Tiger Man of Vietnam"written by Frank Walker. One of the best books I've have read its the true Apocalypse. The man in the cave didnt die read on!

  • 65 people didn't like the smell of napalm in the morning.

  • Who goes to war in a cowboy hat?

  • @NinjaRaider2 I would.

  • @NinjaRaider2 cowboys?

  • @NinjaRaider2 He does.

  • @NinjaRaider2 General Robert E Lee of the Confederate Army? LOL

  • Naplam in the morning!!!! - Sodom

  • One of my favorite films. The plot is based on a book called 'heart of darkness' by Joseph Conrad.

Very interesting how the director used it as a basis for this.

  • 10 Points to anyone who can tell me which real life General this character is based on ?

  • @gpfwestie I studied something about that guy in GCSE history I think, did he push the US line innto the North on an offensive? Gereral Westmoreland is it?

  • who needs a shirt when you have a cowboy hat?

  • Smells like ..... Victory

    Though never achieved

  • @burnleybadguy, Yes, but take a look at who won the battles. The americans lost due to the loss of public support back home.

  • @thenoobfactor

They didn't just lose because of lack of support from the public back in America. They were doomed from the start because they were trying to defeat an ideology (Vietnamese nationalism/ the spread of Communism) instead of a standing army (which is what they had more experience in fighting/defeating). Having to fight a faceless enemy really fucked them up; ideas don't wear uniforms.

  • @thenoobfactor No they lost because the Vietnamnese were better soldiers

  • @EriktheNog The US did not lose a single major battle in that whole war. Take a look at how many Vietnamese soldiers died compared to US soldiers.

  • @thenoobfactor wow what a mystery - you won the battles but lost the war - how strange. How many innocent civilians did the amricans murder?

  • @EriktheNog The Americans lost because they lost public support in the mainland United States. After a while the politicians were forced to bring the troops home to save their careers. And yes you are correct in that the US caused far too much damage to the country and its people, but for the most part they did not kill innocents on purpose. It was one of the most pointless wars in human history, but the Americans are not incompetant or evil soldiers.

  • @thenoobfactor I would not argue with most of what you say there but carpet bombing is always going to take innocent life therefore the fact one is not is not intentioned to take the life is a point understandably lost on the families of hundreds of of thousands of victims.

  • @thenoobfactor The Americans can not win wars that take long thats why US such super power that can not even win wars that cost them too much

  • @ImperialGuard9001 They did just fine in the world wars and Korea.

  • @thenoobfactor They didnt win in Korea it was more or less a drawn in world wars you had a lot of other superpowers involved like France UK Russia etc US only join war a year before its end by then all powers had exausted themselfs no wonder that Americans just came and look like "heroes" by itself US woulnt be able to win it same thing with WWII it was the Soviets that took most of German Onslaugth not the US or even UK these two are so little compare to what USSR did

  • If Eastern Front wasnt around I am not seing D-Day or Italy invasion being sucessufull with all migh of Wehrmacht and other axis nations armies realy I am not seing US and UK taking out the best army of world in that time withoud the numbers of Soviet Union and even in East the Soviets kill and conquer more land in days from the Japanese than Americans and British "Empire" and allies in years! As in West it was China that took most of brutalitiy of japanese not US

  • And the only war that US involves almost by itself that is Vietnam they failed to have sucess like I told you US can not win long wars as much of super power status they have US isnt build for long wars they dont have to will to have total war its short and decisive wars that US has its prime thats why everytime things like Iraq Insurgeny happen its all hell broke loose and is like end of world lol if they had what soviets in 41 I would like to see how americans react

  • @ImperialGuard9001, Wrong about the Pacific campaign, the chinese fought most of the japanese army, but most of the Japanese airforce, navy (and naval infantry) fell to the americans. Korean war was an invasion of south korea by north korea, the invasion failed, therefore the Americans, UN and ROKs won. Also, in ww2 if the americans didnt enter the war than d-day would have been impossible, and then after the russians beat the germans they would have turned all of europe into an east bloc.

  • @thenoobfactor Actualy Japanese hadnt airforce separate branch they had two airforces one from the Army and the other from Navy so big part of Japanese Airforce was in Mainland China not in Pacific but I agree that US and British "Empire" destroid big part of Japanese Navy and that inclueded of course the AirForce branch of the navy even so the Japanese Empire had milions of soldiers if wasnt for the other sides involved in war US alone coulnt win it

  • @thenoobfactor On Korean War it was Macarthur itself that saw it as spoiled oportunity sucess would be to destroy the North competly and in fact this would be possible if Chinese hadnt step in then sucess would be a invasion on China and if necessary atomic bombs on China Macarthur was eventualy take out from Command

Most of Korea Peninsula remain in hands of Communists how was this a victory? It was drawn since neither the Chinese or NK forces took the South and UN and US took the North
