Als ich klein war hab ich immer gedacht, des wär wieder so eine spiesiege, langweilige Theateraufführung. Erst als ich es durch Zufall im Fernsehen gesehen hab wusst ich endlich wie geil der Skatch ist :D ....jetzt hab ichs auf dvd und verpass keine Ausstrahlung am Sylvester ;) ...ist bald wieder so weit. Da geben wir uns die Kante zusammen mit James!

This sketch is also a tradition in Norway, but it is aired on december 23 instead of New Year's Eve for some reason. But I watch it every year, and it never gets old :)

The fact that its so popular in Germany whilst everyone else has forgotten about it just further proves their stereotype basic slapstick comedy taste. If we're talking christmas comedy classics, Mr bean's christmas is 100 times funnier or Only Fools and horses!

saying all that, its sweet that its such an old yet enduring and popular sketch.

@rupertshean I agree. I must say, all the people that thumbed you down certainly hate anybody else who has a different opinion :P

Personally, I find Fawlty Towers, Monty Python, The Great Race, "It's a Mad,Mad,Mad,Mad World" and quite a few other movies/shows funnier. Of course, the actor and actress in this sketch play quite good, but I'm more of a highbrow person. I prefer word play to slap stick as such, anyways.

Of course now that we Americans are aware, you do realize we'll have to make a reproduction involving millions of dollars, in color, with spoiled big name talents who don't fit the roles at all, a canned laugh track, lots of annoying special effects and CGI graphics, which will then completely fail to replace the original?
