Unbelieveable, I still remember, when I was 8 and I really liked sweet home alabama and my dad told me about the plane-crash and that just some of them are still alive. Billy and Gary were the only guys, who were still playing in the band! I can't believe, that now Gary is the only one :-(!!!

I saw them late last Sep of 08 at DTE in Michigan. They were fantastic that night, especially Billy. THE definition of southern rock aint what it used to be, but they will fill those shoes that Billy used to wear and they will continue to rock on. That is how Billy would've wanted it. One more thing, Billy's shoes are safe for eternity no matter who fills them in the meantime! RIP - Billy Powell

I just learned of Billy Powell's death of January 28. (Don't ask where I've been) and am CRUSHED!

Met them--Billy was especially kind, gently scolding me for being nervous and telling me they were "just folks--nobody special" but he was wrong.

He and they are all special--always have been--always will be.

Billy's piano playing was part of my life, like the way a lawn of grass is or the smell of freshly brewed coffee, or an ice cold six-pack of beer. It's a pleasure that makes life better and that you assume will always be there. Guess we are lucky that he beat the odds and survived the crash in '77 and were able to see him play the last 21 years. The Tribute Tour in '87 was incredible! I'm sure he's back to jamming with Ronnie and the rest. Rest in Peace Billy! Thanks!

As for Billy - he combined the honky-tonk of Jerry Lee Lewis, the raw rock-n-roll flash of Little Richard with some down-home southern-style kick-ass soul to create a signature sound and the back-bone of what makes this "guitar band" phenomenal. I was shocked to read about the passing of yet another Skynrd member. Billy Powell still managed to let his instrument shine in a band dominated by three guitars. He's right up there with Jerry Lee Lewis as one of the top pianomen in rock history.
